'Natural Immunity' to COVID-19: Taking Politics Out of Science - Medpage Today

“Natural immunity” to COVID-19 reinfection has become a political hot-button issue, due in part to groups such as the Great Barrington Declaration organizers. In the first part of this exclusive MedPage Today video, Monica Gandhi, MD, of the University of California San Francisco, discusses the evidence with MedPage Today editor-in-chief Marty Makary, MD, of Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, and speaks about whether individuals who were previously infected with COVID-19 should be vaccinated when there are so many vulnerable populations who are still at risk of severe disease.

I want to check my antibodies, have been exposed to Covid recently with family members but dint catch it thankfully. I did feel weird for a but but never tested positive again. Moreover, why have you believed them there is even a 'covid' to begin with. there has been some strain around, yes, and i have no question it was ,made in a lab and set loose. the people that have died are those with pre-existing immune system problems and weakened ones like some elderly. most people 80 years old or more haven't died either; its a scam. they did it to try and continue their agenda( the Bill Gates Cult) Gates should be put away for the worst crimes against humanity ever.

The following story most eloquently answers your question: _"A king wanted to go fishing, and he asked the royal weather forecaster the forecast for the next few hours._ _The palace meteorologist assured him that there was no chance of rain._ _So the King and the Queen went fishing._ _On the way, he met a man with a fishing pole riding on a donkey, and he asked the man if the fish were biting._ _The fisherman said, “Your Majesty, you should return to the palace! In just a short time I expect a huge rain storm."_ _The King replied: "I hold the palace meteorologist in high regard. He is an educated and experienced professional. Besides, I pay him very high wages. He gave me a very different forecast. I trust him."_ _So the King continued on his way._ _However, in a short time a torrential rain fell from the sky._ _The King and Queen were totally soaked._ _Furious, the King returned to the palace and gave the order to fire the meteorologist._ _Then he summoned the fisherman and offered him the prestigious position of royal forecaster._ _The fisherman said, “Your Majesty, I do not know anything about forecasting. I obtain my information from my donkey. If I see my donkey's ears drooping, it means with certainty that...it will rain."_ _So the King hired the donkey._ _And thus began the practice of hiring dumb asses to work in influential positions of government._ _The practice is unbroken to this date... 😊"_

Another question: for those who haven't been infected, and their risk is very low of serious infection (99% mild cases worldwide, 80% asymptomatic) why shouldn't they risk getting the virus naturally and thus developing natural immunity? Isn't it preferable for most of the population of the world except for the elderly, ill or immunocompromised? In other words, the risk of series illness is virtually 0 for most people on Earth (especially children) so what are we putting them at risk by giving them a non FDA approved experimental vaccine with cytotoxic spike protein and a particularly bad record of serious adverse reaction and death? Isn't natural immunity safer and more robust for a substantial population of the planet?

@@30803080308030803081 it seems so... most people (about 99% of the human population) is likely to safely and effectively gain natural immunity to Sars (and consequently its future variants) through natural exposure. From what I gather, the vaccine should be reserved for people who are at risk of serious infection (again only 1% of the population according to WHO, CDC, and Worldometer) and we know precisely who that demographic is. Otherwise, they should be optional and based entirely on informed consent (which they currently are not).

How come we’ve not heard ANYONE EVER ask or answer the following questions..why would “manufactured vaccine immunity” be as effective as “naturally acquired immunity”?? Immunity is immunity..you either have antibodies/protection against disease or you don’t...Why isn’t antibody titer testing part of this dialogue, part of the process to see if we are getting the protection we need?? Ya know, actually PROVING if we have antibodies or not to this virus after vaccination? (Is the Pharmaceutical companies telling us we do b/c of their own trials & studies good enough?)..None is talking about this...I can relate to another on this thread that said she donates blood and still has antibodies months later (as part of the process you are given a report ~3 days later stating that you have antibodies or not & your cholesterol level, my One Blood in FL actually does 2 antibody tests and emails them to you)...So why aren’t vaccinated people able to find out is if they have antibodies?...We are all “assuming they do”...Anyway, the actual % levels of antibodies aren’t given after a blood donation or getting vaccine for that matter...does it matter?....Anyone else out there have helpful thoughts on this for me? Thx:)

I ask my doctor, "What about my natural immunity from the two illnesses?". Problem is that just because you have no Antibodies doesn't mean you have no immunity. In short as explained in this video, memory B and T cells are primarily responsible for the longevity of immunity. You likely still have memory cells from infections as a child actually. Think of it this way...if we took all estimated asymptomatic Sars-Cov-2 infections ( not just cases ) including confirmed mild cases, more than 99% of infections had a healthy immune response. This suggests we already had memory cells in our tissue that recognized this pathogen as a coronavirus and/or the spike protein that may have been similar from another strain.

There is also the lack of data identifying and supporting immunity post naturally-acquired COVID infections. Yet some practitioners and most laypeople believe there is COVID immunity once fully vaccinated. How can they be so sure of this? I don't see the data. Yet they are quick to say that naturally acquired COVID provides insufficient immunity and the vaccine is still needed.

There is a point of reference when the WHO released a statement early Oct 2020...according to their best estimates 10% of global population had already been infected. At that time there was about 34 million cases confirmed, and 1,000,000 deaths. You can do the math but it becomes pretty evident most of us already have immunity to Sars-Cov-2. Thank you for adding to this much needed discussion. As said early on it was realised children were thought to be less vulnerable partly because of their high T cell count compared to the very elderly, also they generally have less underlying conditions which makes a difference. Also if the figure is correct, 78% of deaths are people who are considered obese, as well as majority are the very elderly and co-morbidities. Another factor is we now have overwhelming evidence that previously infected have a robust and long lasting immune protection against reinfection (as long as you’ve looked after your immune system) asymptomatic without symptoms, mild symptoms should also mean a good immunity (according to one UK Government figure they were quoting 1/3 are asymptomatic and less than half go on to have symptoms, including mild?) and that we already had immunity and antibodies showing in people because of the body recognising prior coronaviruses, because of crucial long term T cell memory. (Not just the studies show this, but we know this as the next gen of poss vaccines are being based on this recognition, not just spike protein) As well as Ivermectin as a treatment, studies on Colchicine mouthwash for reduced viral load, studies on vitamin D deficiency for helping the immune system...... We also now understand that surface and asymptomatic transmissions are much, much lower than previously stated....going from 80%, now stating only 17-20% some state even lower…..? This was "before" Covid made it to the US, but funny thing is, our manager had been to China the first 2 weeks of that December. He was sick when he returned, we had so many sick with a cough that would not go away for several weeks. Fast forward to this March, a friend who had a negative rapid test, was visiting for dinner, while he was there, he got a call that his 3 day test was positive. He got very sick, no taste, no smell. That is why they never talk about the infection rate and focus only on cases. It would exemplify the natural and robust immunity we have against what is just another coronavirus. We know the serology tests are being done, its fundamental in understanding the spread of a disease. When infection rate reaches a threshold of 40-50% the rate of transmission or R value will naturally decline. One could then (in theory)😉 time the vaccine roll out to coincide with this natural occurrence, insuring an appearance of vaccine efficacy.

I do want to start off by offering a modicum of praise; surface-level as this conversation may have been, the reality of natural immunity is something that has been (purposefully) forgotten throughout this whole ordeal, and I definitely appreciate anyone willing to talk about it. That being said, it’s still exceedingly frustrating to only go this far into the immunity discussion. Not only are people who have already had this particular coronavirus protected, but a large subset of the population, through prior experience fighting off OTHER strains of coronavirus, will have carry-over immunity, as well. Oh, and masks don’t work.

Do they work together at a counter 4/8 hours? Do some really sick people get the virus from casual contact?

Contact tracing should have been an early step in a prevention program but was never seriously implemented so that research was ignored and the unfortunate answer as I see it is the “experts” on whom we depend really don’t know. I have the same questions and many others as well and unfortunately I can only speculate based on personal observations of people who I personally know who were affected. The truth as I see it is we are on our own and must take charge of our own health keep asking questions and scrutinize all the answers. Stay well.

I am a PEST AND DO NOT EAT PORK, BEEF OR CHICKEN. I had fast food along my road after a rain event:) Have not had the JAB and everyone else around me has. I am feeling better than I have in years, I am almost 60. Maybe I am one of those who have a killer immune system. I also drank water from the local stream, which I am told is stupid:) I have been doing this for awhile, a good scientist tests on themselves not elderly or children.

In Switzerland they said that 1/3 of the population has natural immunity - should we get an antibody test before getting the vaccine? @@tiberio1352 Apologize. She says the Great Barrington Declaration says "let it rip"....it doesn't. Period. All the docs/med professionals and logical people will attest to that fact. It says "focused protection for vulnerable" and let everyone else live their lives in order to build natural immunity throughout the population of healthy people. This preserves medial resources while accomplishing "herd immunity"...we do this every year with the flu....if you're sick or vulnerable, you stay home. What we know now is that ivermectin (along with other therapeutics, see FLCCC) works to reverse serious disease. No need for lockdowns. No need for experimental shots. Period. The reason this has become "controversial" is because the CDC (and other prominent virologists and immunologists) are "recommending" one dose of these experimental shots to "boost" one's immune system, defying science. Additionally, businesses are considering not allowing naturally immune people (people who have suffered with Covid, including me) entrance because we are considered "vectors of spread"....it's absurd and the "scientists" have lost all logic. It's all about the silly "passport"....beyond stupid.

I’ve been confused in this as well. I mean, the whole reason the vaccine works at all, is because it’s able the synthesize, perfectly, the spike protein found on the virus. Which means natural immunity from a prior infection should be at least as good, if not better, than the vaccine. (Possibly better because exposure to the complete virus would give your immune system more information than just the spiked protein. So what’s all this talk about the vaccine being better than natural immunity? It doesn’t make any sense. It’s essentially the same thing.
