Natural-Built Tiny House Incorporates Biophilic Design And A Living Roof 🌱

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Biophilic design is a term which refers to the connection between our built environment and the living world around us. It speaks to our innate love of nature, our biosphere and connection with living systems. This tiny home has been designed to incorporate elements of biophilic design and natural building to create a home on wheels which is beautiful, natural and healthy to live in, proving that a tiny house can truly be capable of having a big positive impact.

Walker and Heather were inspired to create a home which incorporated their love of nature and passion for living a low-impact lifestyle, and together with builder Ben from Healthy Tiny Homes in Vancouver, they constructed their ideal tiny house which is now situated in their urban back-yard in Portland, Oregon.
Find out more about this tiny house and others on our website: www.livingbiginatinyhouse.com...
Adding to the biophilic design elements, the home also includes some really interesting features, such as a living roof where the roofline has been designed to follow the Fibonacci curve and mimics the design of a leaf. Adding a living roof to a tiny house is quite an achievement, and Walker admits that it’s a bit of an experiment.

@chowe9, I like your comment, but recycle is the 3rd best of 3 choices. The saying goes: Reduce, Reuse, Recycle. So a plan to reuse is even better! Recycling takes a lot of energy and fuel (pollution) is involved. I wish companies would take back old products (voluntarily) and replace the inner parts with their new, improved product to sell. Imagine all the outer shells never making it to the landfill, like home air filters, microwave ovens, etc.

@MegaJman72, but some people do the opposite. It can be cruel to act like they are headed toward proposing, let's say, if they aren't there yet., or even don't want to ever get that serious. When it comes to building something, it's good to let the other person know if their investment of money or time in the project is pretty risky, or if you intend on being with them long-term/marrying. Just my two cents.

My take is that Bryce spent time with them before the interview (you all must realize that they didn't first meet the minute the camera started rolling.) Anyway, his passion showed and he was very articulate in walking through the process and explaining his decisions. She seemed happy about the project and was just willing to let him have the opportunity to show off his work. I love how they delved into their design process. They were so intentional with this. The home really captured the essence of a leaf/nature. Also, the living roof! So glad they took the chance on that:) the interior of the ceiling is like a work of art. 😍 even with the curved roof, they have plenty of headspace! Such a beautiful home.

Could he have used the words "I" and "my" less. Sure, but we know next to nothing about these two people. Unfair to judge based on one tiny slice of their life. Besides, that's not what the video or this channel is for.

He did talk a lot and he did say "I, me, my" a lot, but I wouldn't interpret it as egocentric. I think he's just very passionate about design and this must have been a project that he was really invested into, and his spouse seemed to just let him talk because he was the architect behind it. There are loads of other videos in which, if it's a male-female couple, the woman is the one that does most of the talking, because she's the one who thought out more about the functionality or the sustainability or the aesthetic of the design, and the man just stands by quietly, and that's fine too. Also, it could be that she talked a lot more in the original recording, but when they edited the video they needed to keep to the time constrain, and perhaps because he talked more about the purpose behind the design, maybe more of the things that she said were left out...? People are so quick to judge.

"Living Big ... " is by far my favourite KZread channel or show. But, I freely admit to growing a bit tired of all the two-faced virtue signaling from different ones; about why they "went tiny" -- like . . . "I chose to go tiny; because I believe in the planet", or "I respect all life and want to live in harmony. ... " Blah-blah, Rah-rah, Yadda-yadda😄😅😅 .. I like the folks who are honest and say they did it for economic reasons, or for a new chapter or just to downsize etc. But it's still THE BEST show on YT 😉👍👍👍👍

Oh, I love the set up in this one. The use of the golden ratio is spectacular here. Those counters are gorgeous. The windows are beautiful and the river stone used in the bathroom is very inviting. I can appreciate that bath tub area as well. It makes you realize you really don't need as much room as you think. And if you're around people that's great for security. I find people more attentive and concerned to others this way which can be a benefit. And what could be better than to enjoy the outdoors. When I was a kid, I spent a lot of time outdoors everyday exploring new things leaving little "footprints" of joy and happiness. And, if anything, these tiny homes only bring us closer to nature which is what we're missing out on. We're supposed to be one with Mother nature not separate and constantly warding her off. She can be our enemy but she can also be our friend. Thanks Bryce. You always say the perfect statements on each of these tiny homes, the individualized tastes of the people and what makes them want to live life to the fullest! Excellent job, mate! :D

I also loved the thought that went into the design - incorporating secondhand items and building with sustainability in mind. This project also showed how one could eventually scale back to live in the tiny while earning income from renting the big. I’d be interested to hear how the live roof is getting on in a year or so. I absolutely love this design and the principle behind the build. Thanks Bryce, this is fantastic!

What really is fulfilling in life? For me it would be to live in a space, like this, that is in harmony with nature and our planet. Such a beautiful inspiring home and message ❤

Love, love, love this house! Especially love that "aspen" tile wall in the bathroom. I used to live in Winnipeg, close to the Assiniboine Forest, which is full of aspen trees, and I can totally see the aspen trees in that tile wall. Makes me miss my daily walks there.
