Holy s**t!! I would never expect anyone to tackle a cover of this Nina Hagen gem!! I figured only Nina had the ability to hit those ridiculously impossible notes. With hats off, well done!! Brava my dear, brava!!!

How can anyone be negative about this performance? She is such a great vocalist. Also, the clothing and the performance is a combination of Ellen herself and Nina Hagen, it's not just an imitation.

I think it takes balls, courage and ability to tackle a nina masterpiece, this girl does it quite well. people are so stupid to think that the girl is trying to copy, she likes the song so she is singing it, it demostrates the amazing ability it takes, and the vocal range of the singer, and this girl rocks it. great going!

mike hawk I totally agree with you that it takes balls to tackle a masterpiece from the legendary Nina Hagen. But don’t you think it’s a bit stupid to call other people stupid for “thinking” Ellen is imitating/copying/impersonating Nina Hagen ?? Look at the woman... she dresses up like Nina, she does her hair like Nina, she even tries to imitate Nina’s unique facial expressions... seems like impersonating an artist to me... And I have no doubt whatsoever that this lady has star qualities, I don’t really know her and her work or genre. She just doesn’t get the credits from some people because she imitates a person with a very unique style. Unlike other people on this forum I disagree with the statement that she adds something to the song. We all know who Nina Hagen is now don’t we ? Personally, in my humble opinion, Ellen didn’t do a bad job, but she would have had more credits without the whole “impersonating act”. Her voice isn’t bad at all, so if she would have performed just as Ellen, Ellen with her own personality, then maybe she would have added something personal to the song. Maybe I’m stupid too, but I’m not blind.... just saying...

She is a relatively well known artist in the Netherlands and I must say I am surprised to hear she can do this. She is known for being versatile but this is really good. And for the copying, that is sort of the point. She did a Blondie tribute tour too. It is not supposed to be original, it is a celebration of the music of artists from the past.

Ellen ten Damme is a great artist and so Beautiful.

Of course this is sheer epigonism, and of course Nina is better. Ellen would be the first to admit that. What remains - if one succeeds in opening their ears and eyes - is a fantastic performance of a fantastic song, grace to Ellen. It we we skip the question on whether one may step in Nina's shoes, the next question is: who *can* step and *dares* to step in her shoes, and not fall flat on their face? That's Ellen ten Damme. She takes nothing away from Nina, but adds. Kudos!

Only *Nina Hagen* can sing this song. The only two other singers that could easily hit all the countless notes of _Naturträne_ are *Mina Mazzini* and *Diamanda Galas.*

Roma Megalopolis In my humble opinion only Nina Hagen owns this song... I adore Diamanda Galas, she’s a unique person and artist too, but in her own genre. I agree, Diamanda has an immense vocal range, but her style is darker whilst Nina’s style is way more colourful. Don’t get me wrong, Diamanda is a wonderful performer and artist, but some things are just not to be copied or impersonated. The same goes for Diamanda Galas, I’ve never seen anyone impersonating her, she’s too unique in her own genre ....

nice interpretation, I liked how she stayed in her vocal range, and used the guitar to cover the flow of the song in spots...smart people make good music!!

I saw Ellen live tonight and her performance of this song really blew me away. It's not about being better than Nina, this sort of singing style is just completely different from what she normally does (singer/songwriter and rocky stuff). Of course it doesn't surpass the original.

Pfff.. Ellen has so much talent.. you have got to admire her for this performance. Of course she's not Nina Hagen, but she's not trying to.. she's just herself giving us a great version of the song.

wow, she does a pretty good job. i like how she made certain parts her own. but i love this song. it's just amazing.

Not bad at all, but in my opinion some songs and performances belong forever to the original artist.That's a part of the magic of music...can't listen, can't watch it entirely from heart.

Yes, she is Dutch, but she knows English and German. She's also a good actress, e. g. in "Bang Boom Bang", "Fickende Fische" and "Das Leuchten der Sterne".

She has a strong voice but using it to try to do Nina Hagen's act is just sad

I’m sure this lady has top qualities as a performer/actress etc... I don’t really know her, but to me personally, trying to impersonate the epic Nina Hagen is just something you don’t want to do, it’s kinda dangerous .... Nina Hagen is a very unique artist in every way possible, an artist with a tremendous vocal range and a personality that was (and maybe still is to some people) very controversial back in the late 70’s and later. To me Nina Hagen is a true personification of art, inside and outside, she breathes art.... I’m sure this is well meant, and I don’t want to criticise this lady, but I didn’t like it, sorry....

there is only one Nina Hagen. why would anyone think they can replicate her? This irritates me. She even tries to copy the eye moves and signature features of Nina, and wearing clothes just like her. Can't copy an original, but you can be yourself.

Nina Hagen is way better. Nina really is crazy and doesn't have to pretend. That's why she's amazing. This girl just isn't. And she can't sing as good as Nina.

Greg Butcher back in the 70’s or the 80’s people were not like they are in the present, empty shells and superficial nitwits. Nina was a punk singer, punk was not mainstream..... hairy armpits... who cares ??
