NATO at 75: More Allies, Less Unity? | To the point
NATO is celebrating its 75th anniversary -- in the shadow of unprecedented challenges. Just as alliance leaders were gathering, Russia bombarded a pediatric hospital in Kiev, killing and wounding dozens of children and prompting Ukraine’s president to renew his pleas for additional air defense systems. Whether such support will be forthcoming in future even if Donald Trump returns to the White House is just one of the doubts worrying NATO members. The alliance is bigger than ever, but does that make it stronger, or potentially more divided? Can 32 member states maintain a united front against aggressors? The question: NATO at 75: More Allies, Less Unity?

It’s always the people that when the war comes won’t be the one on the front line talking the loudest.
2% of GDP now to deter OR 40% of GDP later to fight. The choice should be obvious.

As always Marcus Keupp was spot on and interesting to listen to. However, the other participants were not at par, and the show format needs tweaking to generate a flow and interesting debate that actually generates new food for thought.

Send this groups to front line .
take out the "N" and the "A" of NATO, reconsider the original aims, the original circumstances, realize, that they have been similar to today, only not around the North-Atlantic, but the entire globe, come by that to the conclusion, that a deterrence treaty organization up to date needs to include Japan, South Korea, the Philippines, Australia and New Zealand and find out, that right that would be the solution to the world's issues. Yes - China would bark loudly - but discover its priority for pecuniary interests. THAT alliance would be the framework that could work without US, but would hurt US when leaving that much that it will stay and even accept its reduced dominance. Founding that alliance would mean a new accession process, demanding of Hungary and Turkey a re-consideration of their orientation. They would NOT orient towards their failing besties. Not at least: THAT would be the urgently un-bypassable security pillar of UN-SC.
I'm outraged by this video but since DW removes comments with genuine criticism I'll leave it like that.

I agree with you. The United States should have left when the Soviet Union collapsed.
The Western Empire falls
Organizations like NATO start failing, or having more serious internal challenges to existence, when they loose the commitment to the organization charter. NATO members for decades got used to depending on the US to serve as sheriff of the world and stopped the financial investments they signed up for. Trump is a complete lunatic and criminal but he served to show how weak our systems in the US, and some international, are. The big question in the air now is: Are we going to use the learning and fix what we see is deficient?
