    Good stuff! Mines a few years older, and while there are other brands that are coming out with quality pedal drives and hull designs, the weight of the Native is a huge bonus for owners that have to car top it.

    It's 90% of the reason I went with it. I think it's a better buy than the Pelican 10' pedal drive and I can still throw it on top of my car by myself.

    Great review. Yes! Note below that a post mentions the thumb screw replacements for the bungee set up in the tank well. And, ordering from that company is great. A fine bunch run that shop. Note, too, that you never need to fasten down the pedal drive tray cover, just leave it loose except when you are transporting the 10 (otherwise it'll blow out!!!). And, you can fasten the two drive tabs up at the short thwart bar, but leave the 3rd one unfastened and your drive will kick up if you hit a submerged log. There is no noticeable difference between drive performance so this makes grabbing the drive, lifting it to clean the weeds off super fast. If I can find an email address for you up above, I'll send you one or two other ideas for your tournament fishing. Thanks again!!! I may get another 10. I love my 2015 model. Brad

    Since fishing with it the last two months I leave the 3rd tab open so if I hit something it kicks up and so I can get it up quickly when needed. Can easily pedal with out it rising. I do need to pick up some thumb screws. The drive is really smooth. Pedaled about 10 miles in last week's tourney and wasn't overly tired.

    Cool rig, Yak Attack has tons of stuff for the rail system, I have the FX13 by Native, having a high seat and being able to stand far outweigh a sit on only kayak, you'll be clearing the drive system of weeds all the damn time, BUT instant reverse is why I chose Native

    Do you still like this kayak? I’m debating getting a 2022 while they are still available before they get phased out for the newer (and much heavier) max edition. I’m considering the hobie compass too. I want it light as possible for car topping

  • @TWoodringFishing

    @TWoodringFishing

    2 жыл бұрын

    I do. The Hobie has the better drive but at this price point you'd more functional space than the Hobie. I currently have my cell block, fish finder, paddle holder, and Torqeedo throttle on the side rails with room to spare. I have my anchor lock on the front rail. On the back rails I have my home made Torqeedo mount, camera mount, and visa-pole. The hatch up front is also a dry storage for my tools and WW gear. If you aren't going to have a bunch of gear on it like I do, I would recommend the compass. It'll be faster and the drive won't get tangled as much in grass. If you are nuts like me and throw a bunch of stuff in, at this price, I'd do the Slayer 10. Tight lines!

    Its a shame they could not have made these improvements sooner. One thing I don't like is how easily it can take water over the bow when peddling into a short chop.

  • @TWoodringFishing

    @TWoodringFishing

    4 жыл бұрын

    It will still take water over the bow in my experience but it cuts through pretty well. I found pulling the scupper plugs allows it to drain very quickly and keeps the water out of the hull during choppy water.

  • @TWoodringFishing

    @TWoodringFishing

    4 жыл бұрын

    The weight capacity is 400lbs. The Titan 10.5 and Slayer 13 have a capacity of 500lbs but weight 97lbs and 89lbs respectively without the drive in it. My order took longer than normal but I ordered at the time of the year when manufacturers are changing / updating models. When I called the store they said it normally takes 2 weeks but they do try to keep that model in stock because it's fairly popular. I suggest calling them. They may have one in store for you to try or look at.

  • @TWoodringFishing

    @TWoodringFishing

    4 жыл бұрын

    It felt that way the first time I used it until I got used to it. It's like pedaling up a hill because you're trying to move water with the prop. Because you're moving in a circular motion the drive will sway a bit. The other options are like the Mega Drive by Hobie. It's a smoother back and forth motion rather than circular. It just doesn't offer instant reverse. If your bothered by the motion of the Native drive I suggest trying a brand with a Mega Drive-like system and see if that feels better for you.

    @@firecaptaintom6670 I honestly don't know. I would expect cheaper to do the same or worse. The Hobie, Jackson, Oldtown and Native drives are all solid units with their ups and downs. I would expect them all to have a bit of wiggle or movement because they're not fixed in position. If you can get your hands on others to test drive, I highly recommend it. It's about finding what you feel comfortable with before dropping any $ on one.

If you're looking at Native, perhaps the Native Titan series would be better for you. It has a larger rear well and the 12+ ft models are quite roomy from what I've seen.
