My 100yr old grandmother was in a care facility for last 10 yrs of her life. It is sad so I taught a painting class there 2 encourage creativity. In the courtyard was a cherry tree and she'd watch me pick cherries for a pie. She taught me how to make everything from scratch and critique my pies each year little tips. Those are good memories I'll have for life.

Yes!! My grandma was very traditional Navajo, when we were small she would tell us men and women are very different, we have puberty ceremonies; one for men and one for women; they are not for your body; they are to prepare you for life as a man and woman and to respect the natural creation. Very sacred, very special, they are separate, but equally important and celebrated equally. It’s so sad how the teachings are being overrun and lost because of the culture of “anything goes because I Feeeeel it.”

@@Feuerbach1 because there are consequences to disregarding the fundamental basics of the universe. There's always going to be a cause and an effect. Nobody wants to think what the cause of "Because I feel like it" is nor its inevitable effect. It is unequivocally a force of destruction to follow what you want to do simply because you want to. Without structure and order to a system it will fall apart. That applies to buildings, that applies to physics, that applies to people, that applies to societies. You're more than welcome to follow your path of self-justified rebellion against nature, just don't be shocked when people reject you for it.

I lived near a reservation and knew some natives but I had never heard a native speak their pre-european language until I worked with a guy who was diné. I was very impressed with this guy who I also considered a friend and his brothers. When a young man in the family needed help for a career, the whole family pitched in to provide a way to send him to a tech school and he made them all proud. It was remarkable to see. When his mother had ailments with her arm, she went to doctors in town but nothing worked for her, they held a ceremony that I don’t know what was entailed or who it included but it got her arm less painful enough to use and eventually back to normal. This man telling what diné go by is well versed in natural laws but also common sense.

I worked in a long term care facility for 5 years, and I never met so many friends in such a short period of time, and I never lost so many friends in such a short period of time. I asked them too grandpa! The best thing and most common was that no body who I knew that was dying had regretted anything they had ever did... Their only regrets were things that they did not do.... Some of them were Navajo, some were Acoma, and the one who faced death with the most straight forward attitude was an Italian woman.... her only regret was starting to smoke again after 37 years of not smoking... she was 93... she had started smoking again one year before she died... my friend. After she died, I left that place,... Prisoners are treated far better than our old people,.... that is a shame....

its due to the break down of traditional families. i grew up my grand parents and even my great grand parents still in the home. it's not hard to converse with someone you grow up with, trust and love. but certain powers do not want this practice to continue and they work tirelessly to destroy it. what we're left with is chaos, ignorance, anger and despair. the end result is a lonely death. people, regardless of race or culture or country, have been persuaded that they must grind away at jobs they hate to pay for houses they can't even live in. and feed people they rarely see. it's a sick, demonic system designed to destroy. and every time we enroll children into the public schools we continue to help it destroy us. we don't need new cars, new phones (both made by slaves in foreign countries) we don't need to keep up with everyone else. we dont need fast food, movies or music or tv shows that mock us and make jokes out of our struggles. we need our families. we need healthy food and WE cook ourselves. we need grandma and grandpa, aunts and uncles and all our cousins to come over on sunday to have dinner with us, to talk and share our stories. no one should ever be abandoned to a nursing home.... there's very little nursing. they should be called DYING HOMES.

Due to the distance and busy lives back then we lost touch with each other. I would love to surround myself with these beautiful people and their values. I am first generation to this country. My mother, who passed away last year immigrated to this country from Greece and my father who passed away in 1983 parents were also immigrants from Greece. Have you lived in PA for a long time? When I was a young boy we lived in York. PA for a short while with my cousins.

He didn’t say anything unique, even in western society these were called the laws of nature and the law of God. The problem is that people have succeeded in shaming the west out of believing in the validity of their hearts and our religion. In our modern climate American Natives are very much sacred cows and so they can’t be so easily condemned for simply saying the truth. The fact is that in many schools in the US we have kids getting kicked out of school for saying the same thing. Very very few believe anything but this however the hierarchy the people in charge are capable of punishing those for simply speaking out and if you don’t have the luxury of being a sacred cow of inter-sectionalism you could lose your degree, your job, and even be threatened legally. The insanity is not with the people it’s with the institutions. Even the people in the institution especially higher up don’t believe what they say there are plenty of secret recordings of them laughing at the ideas of modernity but having a Stalinist strategy to punish anyone at anytime for simply being themselves being honest that is an irresistible power for those who seek power. Just as surgeons tend to be people who actually enjoy cutting flesh with a scalpel (otherwise they couldn’t do their job very well) people in positions of authority of most often those who want power of others. It’s not forgotten wisdom that’s the problem it’s the systems will to power. It’s the corruption of those willing to tell you the 1 + 1 is 3 if it means they can tell people what to do and it’s the constant cowardice of people who believe if they simply keep their heads down that it will pass. But it has not passed in less than six years we now have Yale the most important educational institution in the world ignoring the SAT because of inclusivity. Every kid applying knows full well who is smart and what intelligence is but you can bet they will pretend to be every marginalized group in the books if it gets them a spot. Only the truly genius won’t bother because they will understand that in a few more years that degree will be so meaningless it is just a money pit. Point being we need people like this man to keep saying the truth because average people aren’t allowed to say it without consequences not because we have forgotten it.

I've been fascinated in indigenous mythos and beliefs my entire life. I went to a powwow when I was 3 years old and I was obsessed with it for some time. Being a white kid I was never allowed to be a part of ceremonies but it hasn't stopped me from forging my own relationship with the land. I've made yurts and teepees and other structures in the woods and have sometimes been visited by indigenous families taking their kids out into the world. The light in their eyes seeing a Viking Jesus looking man out in the woods meditating and praying with the Earth seems to be a welcome sight. People are so captivated by the tech world that they forget that those things are tools and not the world. Tools are used to help you navigate the world and survive in it. Thank you for the video!

Why weren't you ever allowed to be part of the ceremonies? We're you kept out, or was it because you weren't there with a participating tribe? I'm asking because I've not heard of anyone being excluded from ceremony wholesale and I would be appalled to see that and not be kind about sharing my opinions about it. Nothing should hold you back from participating if you want to participate. If you want to learn fancy dance, go learn and take part. The gatherings are about bringing people together, not holding people apart. Keeping someone out because they're white is basically the opposite of what a pow-wow is supposed to do.

  • @Theoramma

@Azure Phoenix cuz I'm just some white guy who's probly a colonizer and racist and whatever even though I've never colonized anything or have ever cared what color people are. The only time people ever want to talk about anything remotely spiritual and how we're connected to the earth is either in church or when people come upon me out in the woods. I have no tribe. My people are so far removed from nature they think a city park is a wild land. I'm a woodland bear in a concrete jungle. I was also too shy to ask as a kid because I felt like I wasn't one of them by the way they looked at me. To young to understand maybe.

@P0mskid00dly0ps Probably the best part of the internet is that it makes it easier to find like minded people. I'm not Souix, but I've learned souix dances. I'm not Navajo but I've learned weaving (I'm awful at it). But I go to gatherings and I ask people to show me, teach me and exchange information. I mainly do medicine, and people are often interested in that. Most people LOVE to teach, so don't be afraid to ask. The worst thing that happens is they say no, and you're no worse off than you were before.

The old ways when it came to gender in Dine' culture was NOT binary. Traditional Dine' recognized 4 genders & usually valued their 3rd & 4th gendered people highly. (Mr. Brown is not stating the truth. Unfortunately, he's allowed himself to reject his heritage & he's fallen into the christian colonizer's bigotted binary gender beliefs. So, like anything on the internet, don't believe everything you see & hear.)

I take from this beautiful teaching that the female and the male aspect are, in essence, equal and both are needed and both are divine. Glorious. That feels natural and that feels like truth. Also the part about "a woman with the feelings of a man and a man with the feelings of a woman" was very interesting and insightfull. I have never seen it like that. And since you are not your feelings, that does not make a man not a man and a woman not a woman. So simpe, so profound. Especially in our so called modern, western world and society. Thank you. Man thanks. Much love.

We have lost our connection to the great spirit and conciousness . Hopi elders speak of a time where " man, will decide they are a woman and become a woman " in the Three Shakings of the Earth . Going against the great Creator . We are in the third shaking of the earth now . I am glad I saw this today. I will honor and pass this wisdom , regardless of who tells me differently . What a wonderfully bloviated way to say nothing at all. Narcissists love that little bit of truth to make a big lie seem reasonable. They in turn bend the ears of the younger generation narc, and it continues for millenia. But not too long, till those secrets you hid in your stories are on full display. Do not try to teach cooperation while being uncooperative yourself. You know damn good and well how the female survives after the battle has destroyed all her men. There is no immediate balance, especially in hard times.
