National Trail♦South Mountain Preserve - Phoenix, AZ Beautiful, EPIC, Rocks, Drops, Challenging, Fun

I rode the most popular section of National trail at South Mountain Preserve just south of Phoenix. I recommend riding this trail like an 'out and back'. To get there you start riding from Pima Canyon Trailhead and take the 'dirt road' to the beginning of the trail. You can either take National or Mormon up...this time I took Mormon, its a little less technical even though its just as steep! Then you connect onto National Trail and take it gradually uphill until a nice turn around point. From here, its mostly downhill and so fun and challenging. The trail has a lot of variety, lots of different routes to take for drops and jumps or just keep it mellow if you want. Lots of climbing but also lots of downhill! The views are beautiful. South Mountain Preserve is one of the nations largest municipally managed parks - its more than 16,000 acres so you defiantly feel like your out in the wilderness when you're here. Even though its within close proximity to the city. Dont be intimidated by this trail if you are an intermediate rider...it is completely do-able and so worth it!!

    It looks so much easier when I’m watching it on Facebook and your head cam but trust and believe I know it’s not. I’ve been riding since 1990 and I love it 69 now and still hitting it. God bless you young lady keep the rubber down.

    Yes, there is a trail at the top of Mormon, you hang a right…that goes down the side, it’s very technical. Called devastator? I’ve ridden it twice. Chunky and steep! Also more trails I’ve never done..only hiked…some very sketchy. I like national so that’s what I do almost every time haha

    How long does it take to get from the top of national to the bottom?

  • @Sara.Jo.

    @Sara.Jo.

    Ай бұрын

    Well, that depends on how far you go on national. As an out and back I usually start at Pima canyon, and go about 5 miles to the buena vista lookout parking lot and then turn around. That’s a common out and back, 10 miles takes around an hour and 20 min out and back.
