I see a lot of highly sensitive people or empaths in the comments, and I want to quickly give some tips for anyone struggling with taking on others feelings and such. Obviously everyone experiences it differently so my tips might not apply to everyone, but I feel compelled because I think I’ve built up good emotional boundaries over the years. 1) know your limits. If there are certain people that just fill you with their junk, distance yourself. 2) you can’t save anyone. You can only be a light. So don’t jump off the boat after them; you cannot help someone drowning if you’re drowning too. 3) my sisters have anxiety and depression and it’s easy for me to absorb that, especially when I’m tired or worried. In those times I have to imagine a shield blocking their anxiety and depression from reaching me. Those are my main tips, but also know that your empathy is a gift and you can help people if you understand how to keep yourself from drowning. It’s a lifelong journey. God bless and for those quarantined and feeling isolated or morning loved ones, for what it’s worth know that me and my family are praying every day for you. ❤️ Also Nathan you’re incredible and you are one of my little sister’s favorite artists besides NF, TwentyOne Pilots, and Celtic Woman. 😆👌

It took me breaking under the pressure of a toxic school environment in order to find my empathy again. And now I'm no longer a pure empath/hsp. I have a defence mechanism that is a logical, chaotic, wrathful alter ego that I believe may become a permanent part of my personality. So I try to co-exist with that dark side of mine. I will try to follow your advice, so as to not drown in others' sorrow.

I live in Brescia (Italy) and I'm currently in quarantine because one of my relatives may have been infected by the Coronavirus. I can't either see my parents or live in my home. I sleep with a mask on my face on an old armchair feeling suffocated. You can't imagine how much your songs are helping me... Being an empath might seem like a good thing on paper, but there’s so many difficulties that come along with it too. It’s almost like suffering for other people’s mistakes. I’ve even had someone close to me before (not anymore) call me careless because they were going through a lot of emotional pain and I was trying to tell them that I was getting hurt by it too, but they didn’t understand. You can’t even suppress it either, because if you do you become cold and angry. This song was a beautifully worded way of expressing this trait.

I love this song so much, because it's one of the few that actually click with me. I've been an empath all my life, putting others ahead of myself. I still do that. I've actually kind of lost myself, because now my emotions are so repressed I can barely feel them. So I want any other people like me to keep in mind, not everyone wants or can be saved. Today I want to thank you, Nathan, more than ever. Some time ago very terrible big things happened to a beautiful human being. Не was always trying to give much love to a lot of people around him and make this world a better place in a whole. But he was hurt by the very people he loved so much. He was really misunderstood and treated unfairly. I'm so worried about him now, sometimes I can't even sleep because of it... I feel his pain like it's my own. I hate the world because that person didn't deserve this. I often think about everything that he had to get through... It almost drives me crazy. And the funny thing is... that person actually doesn't know me. We never met personally. It's so fooiish. I should think about my own life but I continue to experience the pain of the man who probably doesn't even know about my existence... So I truly feel this song. I don't know so far if I should consider my excessive empathy as a curse or as a gift... In any case, thank you for helping me with sorting out my thoughts a bit. At least I feel that I'm not alone. By the way, you also help me to cry some pain out from my chest. I feel much better now. And also thank you for the place where I can share my feelings. Sorry for any mistakes, my English is not so good...

My tired soul needed to hear this song. Being an empath is one of the hardest of missions for Earth Angels. Saddest part is that most of the time we have to do our own healing alone. Total reclusion to empty the foreign voices and feelings. Only alone we can trust that what we're feeling truly belongs to our essence. Alone we face our shadows and then we look to the moon and ask for Divine grace to take a way the pain. Then once we feel whole again we go back to help the others, because at the end if we don't assist the others we feel without purpose, we truly feel dead inside. So even if it's tiring we keep this cycle... But deep down my soul knows that I wouldn't change a thing, because I rather feel it all than feel nothing at all.. Again, thanks Nathan!🙏💜

I commented a few weeks on alchemist about how I was an empath and this honestly hit deep because I feel all these things every day, when you responded back it was nice to know i wasn't the only one, to be honest i never talk about how im an empath because i feel like people would see me as some kinda attention seeker but in reality it hurts botteling up all my feelings and emotions because I'm constantly feeling other people's sadness and loneliness and after an argument I'll just forget whatever they said to me and think about gow i made that person feel and how they don't deserver it it's just a struggle but it's nice to know im not alone, tha ks for this song hopefully I can cope with all this someday

One of my comments asked "How do you deal with being an Empath?" and I wanted to have some deep profound response but I realized I can barely even cope with it. So the empath idea had been on my mind a ton. About a week later I found out someone very close and dear to me was struggling with real bad depression and I couldn't help but carry it myself. Finally I was just sick of it so I sat on a piano and wrote this.

Being an empath is both a blessing and a curse. To feel what someone else is feeling, to see emotions, and hear what's not said is the biggest gift anyone can be given and I wouldn't trade mine for the world. At times it can be overwhelming so it is ok to be alone. I just discovered your music yesterday and haven't stopped listening since. this song....it puts into words so much I struggle with when it comes to my empathy. By the end of most days I'm shaking with so much emotion and energy that do not belong to me that it becomes so hard to just let go and be myself. I will 100% show this to my family. It’s so hard to put into words how this works. Thanks so much for putting it into words. Today was so hard and I just, through some complicated circumstances, I can’t listen to Spotify, but I do have access to KZread. So glad I do because this is so amazing. It’s a great feeling when someone understand you. It’s especially helpful to use to explain to people when they are insulted by me not wanting to spend time with them. It’s just tiring sometimes. Once again, thank you so much for making music, especially in a time like this. It’s such a blessing and came at the perfect time.
