Well done Nathan! Chinese parents will do anything for their kids. My parents moved to America to work in factories and kitchens just so that I can have better educations. I’m super grateful for their sacrifices and for the country that educated me to become who I am today! Thanks for representing USA, you are a true American spirit! Congrats to the Chen family!

Yes, totally agree. It is hard to describe the hard work the first gen Chinese, Asian or any immigrants has done to settle in and build a great foundation for their family's future. What strikes me the most is that how common Nathan's parents are among people I know. Nathan could be any of their son.

With five children to raise, money was an issue; however, Nathan's mom never lost hope and drove from Utah to California and back to Utah without hesitation so that Nathan could get the best coaching possible. How many mothers would be willing to make this supreme sacrifice? His Gold Medal was truly earned and he deserved it. I am sure that he will continue to figure skate and hope that he will be in the next Olympics to defend his Gold.

No country or political system is perfect. No human is perfect. We all have our own opinion and interpretation of moral standard and values. To many Americans, there is even higher standards and values, as summarized by Jesus in these Bible verses on Matthew 22:36-40, that we try to follow : “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments." You are right in that freedom may mean different things to different people from different part of the world, but there is a bottom line where we all know we should not lower beyond, such as freedom does not mean I can do whatever I want...I cannot hurt others or reduce others' same right and freedom while trying to exercise my right and freedom

I think you do not have the total picture. ( 1 ) there is only some special groups that really harbors racial hatred ( 2 ) even minority groups have ( a) discrimination against members of their own racial group - yes - that is possible.... example... in a company panic many years ago, some of those mainland China speaking mandarin tended to interact less with those Chinese immigrant colleagues from Hong Kong ( b ) those hip hop songs full of racial slurs against people of their own African American group ( 3 ) even minority groups have discrimination against other minority groups - as the crime rate in California seems to suggest. So, you cannot say the "US" is doing that to asians and africans, unjustifiably implying white Americans are targeting minority groups. You have to qualify and quantify who is doing what to whom, based on facts and statistics. I am a minority myself and I feel safe in my community - it is a matter of what policy adopted by what local government to address crimes in general and racial crimes in specific so do not make blanket statement that will only divide the country - not sure what your motive is

I helped another Chinese immigrant who bought inventories of live flowers trying to sell on the street of Toronto for mother's day.... I found out he did not sell much so after my working hours I organized other good friends ( also have mainland China ) to go out to the street to help him sell off his inventory - else he would have suffered much greater investment loss... but as usual I cannot prejudge all chinese immigrants - I can only speak from my personal experience and what others have told me from their personal experience. I only wish the mainland Chinese not able to escape the CCP dictatorship regime to be free and have better future - not just the young people with wealth and education or good appearance but everybody - the old, the sick, the overweighted, the wrinkled, the disabled, they all deserve the basic human right we are all created and born with... not just the privilege red-second generation or the rich-second generation I heard so much about in the last 10 years.

@@tennissport4318 It seems that you are a Hong Kong man and admit that you are Chinese, which is good. But you have a lot of misconceptions. First, mainland Chinese have been taught from decades ago that Hong Kong people are compatriots and should be treated in a friendly way. We see Hong Kong people are very warm, but many Hong Kong people are indifferent to the mainland people think Hong Kong people are superior to them! Then there are many anti-China Hong Kongers, such as the dark riots in Hong Kong in 19 years! Let mainland Chinese and Chinese around the world began to hate Hong Kong young people. How can you avoid these questions? You said That Hong Kong has brought benefits to the country. Why not mention that the country has brought more benefits to Hong Kong? Does a city need to brag about all the economic benefits it brings to its country? Did the Chinese government praise itself when the country gave various benefits to Hong Kong? This is the right thing to do, not to say! Do you understand? How could Hong Kong develop without a country? Please use your head! Dictatorship? You are talking about Japan. If you think that the current economic and cultural height of mainland China has improved and people are living a rich life because of dictatorship? Well, we welcome this dictatorship! We support this dictatorship!

I really don't think that fits because 1) it's not a complimentary term and 2) Nathan clearly said his mother let her kids choose their pursuits, but that they should give their serious pursuits their all.

I'm sure Nathan is proud of his Chinese heritage, as am I, but that pride is not necessarily represented by the Chinese flag. Nor is it equivalent to Chinese National Pride as in the nationalistic pride of citizens of the People's Republic of China. Please don't interpret this comment as hate, just trying to keep facts straight.

Not gay. There was a controversial interview on You Tube last year where he made it a point to say he was straight. It caused a big stink. Why? I have no idea. I'm gay, I watched the interview. Nothing about it offended me.

As opposed to what? Communist China who throw different ethnic groups from their own country into camps and force them to live the way the Chinese think they should live? No country is perfect but Nathan isn't so ignorant as to not realize that his home country, the US, is still one of the greatest in the world.
