Nate Morton Drum Cam 39 - Higher Ground

Музыка

I have previously shared that my very first concert experience was seeing Stevie Wonder live at the Municipal Auditorium in Nashville, TN when I was maybe 8 or 9... once upon a time, I even had a cassette bootleg of that show... It's long gone now... but my love for Stevie and his entire catalogue is stronger than ever!
It was my pleasure getting to play this tune with Shawn Sounds... he totally killed it!
Here is where you can view the performance as it appeared on the show!

To be clear... I do NOT own any rights to this song or this performance and I am not attempting to monetize it in any way... I just thought it would be cool to share!

    The most underrated drummer in the whole wide world if you ask me . Just great .The entire package . The groove, the pocket, the showmanship etc. Thank You .

    Notice during the verse he played it straight AF to allow the funk to come through with the keys and bass. There are so many players that are like "Yah...I'm really a funk drummer" and then play all sorts of crap everywhere that makes it 100% NOT FUNKY. Great vid!

    LOVE your interpretation of this. Well, I love all of your grooves. I feel like everyone has their version of this song, but they always seem to play behind it in a traditional shuffle. I like how you turned it almost into a hard downbeat as opposed to the traditional up that everyone does. Amazing as always!

    Man...your Precision is scary. So accurate, yet with feeling. Do you play the exact same thing every time you play this arrangement in rehearsal? Are your parts charted for you or do you write your own parts?

  • @NateMortonDrums

    @NateMortonDrums

    4 жыл бұрын

    I almost NEVER do... I never want to know an arrangement so well that I'm always playing the exact same fill at the exact same place because I always wanna leave room for a "happy accident"... No matter how many times we play an arrangement I always want it to breathe and feel organic... and I don't want to lose the spontanaity. This doesn't work in EVERY situation, but on the Voice, that's what I'm going for because I would NEVER want it to feel like karaoke...
