Best-known for her hit KZread series, “Breaking Down the Riffs,” the international performer and vocal coach spent the day discussing music theory, song interpretation and pitch awareness. Here Natalie works with 9 year old T.A.P. student, Ashley.

I can act really well and I can sing with any emotions but I can’t belt high and I feel like that will ruin my chance of being on broadway

Daring Kiwi If it’s your dream, you can do it! Plus not all Broadway roles require belting. Classical shows usually don’t have too much. If you’re an alto, it might be harder for you to find non belting roles. I wish you the best :)

You can learn techniques to belt higher, but do it slowly. The best roles combine both belt and “ legit” so that you can sing roles that use head voice not just belt. Actually it is the soprano voice that can belt high, altos can not belt so high.

4444marla i have a weird range because I can sing in my chest voice a F3 to D5 but then I can go up a C6 (sometimes above) so I don’t know what to classify myself as 😭

@@Caroline-le8gm vocal classifications is not important atleast for me.. Cause that causes limitations to singers thinking that their range cannot be expanded..
