    You're missing a vital part. In 1993, it was translated to danish and recorded by Lis Sørensen. It was called Brændt and was a big hit, locally. Only after that (1995) that Ednaswap used it themselves. Source: en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Torn_(Ednaswap_song)

    She's basically an 1990s version of the American Idol fame of going viral and getting lucky. One cover song, movie role, viral video is all it takes to make you rich and famous.

    I mean she's also been in Brian Wilson's band since he re recorded Smile in 2005, so she's definitely not without talent. He isn't known for hiring average singers!
