she reminds me of the the old ballet legends, theres something kind of raw about her dancing and yet she has the perfect technique of ballerinas now a days..... a rare and perfect combination, especially for giselle!!

gravity clearly doesnt apply to her. one of my favourite dancers 💖

I have seen Giselle 100s times and performed the ballet on many occasions. I have never seen this entrance done anything like this. She takes an idea and makes it manifest physically. Pure magic to me.

And her timing wasn't the best. She often misses timing which is integral to the routine.

Don't care about any of the criticisms levelled at her: that elevation and ballon is astonshing to see - a rare gift - and she's a wonderful ballerina.

What are they saying about her exactly? Is it technical or something? I’m glad she did performances with the Royal Ballet…….I’ve seen a few performances online where the conduct couldn’t synch well and she was rushed. It’s annoying when that issue happens in this particular scene in the ballet.

Tremendous story that has layers and layers of meaning.

Amazing! She moves with such ethereal grace; and in her jumps she lands silently and springs up again, like her feet never touched the floor. Love it!

I saw Osipova at Covent Garden this week = her Giselle was amazing - full of dramatic interpretation and her white act was so beautiful - light as a feather I will never forget it

Stunning--the turns and the height and lightness of jumps! Giselle is for ballerina with high light jumps.

Such a powerful performance. Amazing - it really seemed like she was in the process of being awakened.

Every time I watch this video, I cannot believe how amazing Natalia is. Many ballerinas have performed this role, and many do beautifully, but Natalia's interpretation is especial. There is a Cuban ballerina from the 1980's whose name is Marta Garcia. There are a few videos on KZread about her. She also has an amazing transformation even though her time is quite different than Natalia's: 1980's versus 2016.

I cannot explain what it is about Osipova, but she is the superior prima ballerina to all others! Every single time I watch her, no matter what character she is in, she never fails to give me chills up and down!! Wow!

Wow, the ethereal quality that most ballerinas would die for. She is the best Wili Giselle ever. "Giselle changed into a butterfly" accurately describes her, the way she dances starting @ :37. She looks like a butterfly, the reincarnation of souls.

I played Giselle once in ballet. It took me a long time to get those spins right, but even after I finally got them down hers looks SOOO much smoother then mine! It’s like she’s floating!

@pepercat17 Natalia Osipova has her unique style. She is incredible fast in her movement, extremly athletic, although she is ... tiny. I think she is the best Giselle i have ever seen, outstanding this variation. For example, no Prima Ballerina can reach her Kitri or Esmeralda.

Nobody has her energy, presence AND technique! Just amazing!

The best Giselle I've ever seen!!!

I am old enough to have seen Fracci do this onstage in the 1960s when she was at the top of her game. I don't deny Osipova's legendary speed and power, but the thing is, in my view, these almost get in the way. I also saw many Giselles. And I have never yet seen matched the melting beauty of Fracci's second act, especially her portes de bras. Her very fine technique is almost unnoticeable because of how she embodied Giselle. In this ballet, that should be the point. It has to be about more than speed and jumps. And poster below who noted timing off is correct. Maximova I was too young ever to see onstage. Ulanova coached her first her first Giselle. Footage is only available of her doing the lond second act adagio, and it is the only place I have seen the same sort of achingly beautiful movement. Osipova is a great dancer. But she is not, in my opinion, a great Giselle. It has to be about more than speed and jumps.

Respond to this video… Osipova may not be the cleanest and most classical dancer but there’s no denying her aggressively beautiful technique, her arresting impact, and the way everything she does registers so emphatically with her audience - for better or for worse.

I saw this live. Very good. I noticed mistakes, but thats because I am a dancer. I'm not sure who was the cast. But I did see the Moscow ballet live.

@Leirix61 I have not seen her do those variations, but those roles deman a high technical level and not so much as in a "soul" per-say as those were choreographed when the time was to show off the dancers ability and less on the actual feel of the character like the era Giselle was made

She is incredible! I've seen many snipets of her performing this role but unfortunately I'm unconvinced that she's Giselle. It's a shame since her technical prowess is PERFECT for this role, but the overall seems lacking something.

Giselle is a sheltered, shy maiden. Osipova feels like she's constantly exploding. So...

The music is too damned happy for a tragic scene 😂 She's great dancer tho, the transition phase from earth bound to spirit (the spinning) looks great, and after that she looks floaty and weightless. Like a mere breath of wind would enough to blow her away...

Osipova is incredible BUT if you want to see the real true Giselle, find the 1974 recording of young Nadezhda Pavlova. The 15-year-old girl is unique - the living embodiment of Giselle.

Even though the tutu makes her lighter, she somehow makes herself even more airy and weightless.
