We always did that as kids. I actually taught the neighbor kid about it now he loves doing it in racing games. I also told NASCAR heat 4 people that this is how I test the crash physics in the game and the newest one failed the test sending the car 200 feet into the air.

Lol I used to do this for hours and hours as a kid on this game. The graphics are actually really ahead of its time.

Haven’t seen this game since I was a kid. Playing it with my dad, going backwards wrecking everyone lol. Just hearing the opening song , the engine sound the tires screeching the spotter telling you your going the wrong way lol. takes me back to a simpler time

My favorite nascar game, played this for hours on end as a kid, I still pop it in my ps2 from time to time and play the career mode. Great game and looks good on pcsx2, thanks for posting

By far the best nascar game ever on a game console. Pretty sad when new gen nascar games are arcade and don’t even have the same damage physics as a game almost 17 years old. I mean this game had realistic damage,the engine sounds,crash sounds were life like,cars completely on fire,and you actually had commentary a National anthem and flyover or fireworks during night races. The car engines and fuel tanks caught fire and you had rivals. And now we have Nascar heat games on new generation systems with little to just unrealistic damage, nascar thunder you had side damage and donuts around the doors of the car new gen you have no damage on the side of the car. Car parts would come loose and fly off cars and you had dnfs and even later in the race some cars were actually seen back out in the race with their body parts missing and the victory lane celebration was more realistic. It’s just sad that developers today are just lazy or plain inexperienced in the sport of nascar to actually develop a game that looks realistic. Sad that a 17 year old game looks,sounds, and plays better than new generation. Just a shame EA sports gave up on Nascar because they developed them far better than any of these other low budget developers.

This is EXACTLY what I did as a kid.

One of my favorite features of this game is the Grand Marshall saying "Gentlemen, start your engines!" followed by the satisfying roar of all the engines turning on.

I don't think I'm even exaggerating when I say I think these graphics have aged really gracefully over the years. It almost looks a generation ahead of the Heat/DTD games, it still kinda holds up today.

Back when you could actually pull slingshot moves, and beat and bang on the other cars and not get all out of shape.

I remember playing the PC version of this game back in 2003! I also have the PlayStation 2 and Nintendo GameCube versions, and I made several custom stock cars in the PS2 and GC versions, including two paint job variants of the original version of the Hornet #41 stock car from the Daytona USA arcade game series, inspired inspired by a British KZread user named PacGuy765 (a.k.a. Prince Jamie The 7th) because of his videos where he remakes this same exact stock car in the UK PlayStation 4 version of "Need for Speed: Payback" and drives it in the UK PS4 version of "The Crew 2," so please check them out whenever you have a chance! Anyway, nice high quality gameplay video!

I remember me and my dad playing this when I was like 5. We both had those PS2 steering wheel controllers with the pedals and everything. I remember he’d actually try to race and I’d just go backwards and wreck him. Sometimes though I’d help him and wreck the other cars so he could win. Really brings back memories.

With this being the first ever nascar game i played and being the thing that got me into nascar i adore this game so much.

Back when nascar games had a sense of time and during night races youd see the sun a litttle at the start of the race but by the end it was completely dark. Just little things like this is what made this game and thunder 2004 feel so realistic.

Started as a race, ended as a battle field. Naaiice👌👌 Loved doing this as a kid back in 03' on the GameCube. 😭💗

Brother, I'm wondering how you get such smooth gameplay across all PS2 games. Our PC's have close to identical specs, and though the PCSX2 window says it's running at 60FPS, in-game it feels more like 30. It doesn't have the smoothness that comes with Gamecube emulators or your videos.

Because he records from pcsx2 recorder, which fakes fps. He might be running the game just as bad as you but we cant see it here because the pcsx2 recorder, as i said, fakes fps. You should use Dolphin emulator, but sadly im so stupid that i did not look for info about how bad pcsx2 ran the game and made lot of progress there. Now ik that Dolphin emulator is better for this game, but i cant transfer my save data from PCSX2 to a Gamecube save.
