I think the only thing he loved more than racing was the fans who watched either they loved or hated him he did everything in his power to give the people what they wanted and grow the sport more and more

The kids watching and racing today just have no clue what this man means to our sport........and I hope and pray he's never forgotten..he is the greatest to ever grip a wheel hands down

You can never watch the end of the 2001 500 and not notice that as soon as the checkered flag flew, Darrell Waltrip KNEW something bad had happened. Even through immense joy of his brother winning, his first concern focused on turn 3.

Absolutely, it's probably one of the most bitter sweet and Disturbing thing's I've ever seen in Sport's and live television, especially when you see him crying tears of joy over his little brother winning after loosing so many times..yet one can assume he'd could've been in tears subconsciously, over the uncertainty of not knowing how Dale was and not wanting to listen to his gut instinct that something horrific had just happened to him...

Met this man twice both times he took time to shake my hand look me in the eye and listen to me. First time was in 81 and forever stuck with me. When I go to Daytona 500 people are still crying at his monument. I have to say I have shed a tear or two also very touching moment there. Man I miss this icon.

My dad worked for an ARCA team, and met all the greats. He said Dale was very nice, Neil Bonnet was nice, Petty was ok, Rusty was a bit of a dick, waltrip was an arrogant asshole, and Elliot was a drunk.

Man, DW on the mic during his son's win and simultaneous loss of Dale really got me. You can see the proud he was of Michael at that moment, followed by the immediate concern.

As morbid as it is, it's true. More drivers would have been killed. Nascar back then was painfully ignorant and lax when it came to safety and it took Dale dying to wake their asses up. In a way, it was like a sacrifice and Dale's last gift to the sport because who knows how many more drivers would have been killed if it weren't for him shocking Nascar into being more strict with safety. The butterfly effect beyond that is too much to even comprehend. It's cool to think about I guess how things would've been different but it really doesn't matter. It wasn't in the cards.

All we have is memories as NASCAR fans. The sport is unwatchable and NASCAR makes no secret of how it hates the old fans. We miss you Dale Earnhardt.

That night my father and I were on a lake listening on the radio in Osteen when Jr won The Pepsi 400. We had such a great night and knew how special this was! Thank you!

I’m always and a life fan of Dale Earnhardt. I couldn’t wait for Nascar Sunday to watch Dale E. Race to win. He was the the Best and Above the Rest Period..........

Watching on April 10th, 2020. In February it will be 20 years. It still feels like yesterday. I have a son about to turn 12 who is a big fan of Earnhardt's. He never had the chance to see him race live, all he can do is watch KZread videos, and he does and loves them. That's the impact Earnhardt had a child born 7 years after he died, sees him as a hero.

Just watching this and reading the comments you gotta wonder how many titles and victories he would have now if he were still here smh r.i.p dale sr...

@@gunnercooper9405 That literally means nothing he was comfortable in the car And had a decent year Dale earnhardt was becoming extremely disconnected he was On the end of his stretch I was the biggest earned heart fan growing up I promise you. When you come to Greenville pick and Speedway for an autograph thing are not a graph thing something happened and we were late they were late they were leaving myself and my mother's good friend chased him and he luckily signed my delete signed my paper and even had a couple of minutes of a chat with me. Never forget it as long as I live but that's neither here nor there he he was not doing so hot

This was a great tribute to Dale. I can't believe that this much time has passed, that some of this stirs old feeling and even brought tears... the sport hasn't been the same since he passed & sadly never will be again. RIP, Dale.

I grew up in my dad's garage on Sundays listening to the Winston Cup race on the radio, and he taught me to root for one driver. My dad is my hero!.... but I lost an Idol in 2001 - #3

Coincidence? Dale enters nascar in the late ‘70s, starts putting together wins and gaining respect in the ‘80s. He becomes influential in how nascar as a company is run, nascar sees a boom of popularity and success in the ‘90s and early 2000’s. And quickly fading after Dale’s death. Almost makes you wonder if the France’s just suck at running a business and Dale was the one who made nascar have it’s big boom, not just on the track, but behind the scenes

Damn 2010 was an all star class with all the Nascar Greats Johnson, Petty, Earnhardt and both Bill Frances

His last win at Talladega you could hear the roar of the crowd over the engines of the race cars shows how popular he was. Also, am I the only one who noticed that he spun a "3" in the grass after winning the Daytona 500 in 1998? Miss you Dale, the greatest ever.

Just a hard working man who was kind and as humble as you can be always took time with his fans at events like in Pigeon Forge Tn for Food City nice man always had that sneaky grin....Bill France Jr was a far better leader than the ones in charge today....

To us Dale was the best! Jerry and I celebrated upon his Daytona 500 win and we cried when he passed! Now he's watching and smiling at us from Heaven and racing there! My Heavenly crew is enjoying watching him race in Heaven now!

As long ago as it was I still get a lump in my throat when I watch these videos. I dont think Dale ever truly knew how much he was loved.

Man was a legend! I was a fan of him ! The Night Dale passed , i won my first Supercross race at the Shelby Fairgrounds in Shelby NC, my dad and i were so happy , finally at 11 years old i finally made it and only to hear the news on the radio late at night on the way home Dale had passed from his accident. It was an awesome night but ended sadly hearing about his death as my dad and i would go to Charlotte Motor speedway to see him race. May this man rest in peace but never forgotten . Rip#3

Its been 16 years and no one has been able to replace you. I will always love racing but nascar has never been the same since you left. I was 12 then, 28 now and you are still a big inspiration to me.

Watching Dale Win the 500 in real time was something I will never forget.. 16 year old kid, rooting him on... We miss you Dale.

I miss that man a whole lot I was only nine years old when he passed the one thing I cannot stand it when people say the sport died he died or they stopped watching after he passed you really think that he would want that all the work that he put in to the sport just to see people turn their back on the sport that's just people being selfish he will want you to be more of a race fan and two do everything you can to give everything you can to the sport and be a positive influence on the sport and not being a little pansy and wallowing in your own shit saying woah it's me I really feel sorry for the people that give up that easy because they must give up on themselves a lot I never once turn my back on the sport and I still love it just as much as I did when I was 9 years old as much as I do today and I'm 27 and it's 2020 and next year will be 20 years since that man has passed so do something good and do something positive for someone to do something positive for the sport in Dales name

Earnhardt Sr. Died for his son and his good buddy. First time I never seen Earnhardt sr. play defense like that. Its was a beautiful moment and yet filled with tragedy.

Dale winning the Daytona 500 almost made me cry ! So sweet a victory.

This does a really good job to summarize Dale's effect on Nascar and how he influenced so so many people, he was such a Natural. He was like the glue that held the league together, he was the greatest driver in modern racing and is such a humble yet incredible family man and person who loved and cared about all his fans. He was definitely irreplaceable so I could understand why it isn't the same as it was than. But legends like Dale are never truly gone. They live in our hearts, memories and Spirit....

my cousin was working in formula 1 back in 1992 and i remember him saying 'no one knew much about nascar, but they all knew who Earnhardt was'. and that just showed you how respected across the world Dale was. legendary
