The reason for no manufacturers on Trucks and Car of Tomorrow, was EA only had license for the Charger, Camry, Monte Carlo, and Fusion. Chevy used the Impala and Dodge used Avenger for COT, so they didn’t have license for those models, as well as the truck models Ram, Silverado, F-150, and Tundra. It’s kind of a dumb overlook on their part not to get all those licenses from the manufacturers.

NASCAR 08 was actually the first NASCAR game I ever got. I got it on the PS2 and it's still my favorite NASCAR game to date.

I got this game along with a ps2 for christmas so it was my first ever ps2 game. I agree with you, still love it today

Fun fact about NASCAR 08, it was developed by Exient Entertainment, a company usually hired by EA for last-gen titles and porting games to portable consoles. Which is a massive explanation to why the game is as funky as it is compared to the other Tiburon developed PS2 NASCAR games

Keep in mind Nascar 08 and 09 on the PS2 are actually just reeskins of Nascar 07, but 09 is just straight up the same as 08, they barely reskinned stuff there

exient never really had any experience developing games outside of porting them which obviously accounts for the different features and or recycling of assets that makes the game feel a lot like a handheld title, then a console one (or even an unfinished one imo)... their other major project need for speed: undercover for the wii/ps2 is an example of how a game that was just thrown together quickly for last gen.

There was no Carl Edwards in NASCAR 07 and 08 because he lended his name and likeness to Plug-N-Play Games by Excalibur Electronics until that contract ended come 2008 which is why he came back in NASCAR 09. And no, there was no Dale Sr in this game as he was another feature from previous games that was stripped. Not to mention the stupidest thing EA implemented in this game (besides no more Swap Cars and lack of the drivers’ real life uniforms in Victory Lane and Garage Cutscenes) by having 2 cars with the same number in the game in Jon Wood and Ken Schrader in the #21, Greg Biffle gets benched in favor of the opposing #21 car unless you either play as any of his teammates or as the man himself.

He is not featured in the video games NASCAR 07, despite winning 4 races prior to its release, and finishing third in the NEXTEL Cup points in 2005. He was not offered a contract for the game by Electronic Arts, the makers of the NASCAR 07 game due to Edwards lending his name to a series of plug-and play video games made by Excalibur Electronics. Both the 8-bit and 16-bit version of Carl's racing game feature his signature backflip, shown whenever Carl's character wins a race. He has also endorsed a hand held LCD game, which is co-branded with NASCAR and is highlighted by red No. 99 Carl Edwards graphics. He is absent from the EA Sports NASCAR game , NASCAR 08, due to the same reason

I spent years playing this almost daily, probably my favorite my Nascar game ever behind Nascar 94. The thing I miss most was the racing was hard. This was actually my last current Nascar game I ever got and when I bought HEAT last year with this game in mind I was very disappointed in how the racing felt, the damage the cars would get, car customization. How damage actually felt like it effected your handling and it was noticeable. Drivers didn't feel like AI just following a line, and that they were actually thinking. When you made rivals mad they would take cheep shots every chance they got plus also doing everything they could to hamper your drive to the front. I feel like this game from over a Decade ago is a better racing game than current Nascar games and thats sad

I wasnt sure if i just had nostolgia glasses on but I spent a good 4 hours playing nascar 08 ps2 earlier, and I totally agree. The racing feels so much more alive compared to heat 5.

During the 07 08 nascar games the reason that Carl Edwards was with a different game company and when the before the 09 game came out that's when they got licensing for Carl Edwards

I played this game a ton, being able to save mid race was an amazing feature.

I still have this game and still play it. It's still pretty good and holds up to this day

I had NASCAR 06 TTC and loved that game! I played the shot out of it, not even really playing the career mode. Plus making custom liveries all the time was a lot of fun!

@15:48 I agree with your stand-point but I can also understand the developers reason behind the mentioned decisions. It was a big challenge for developers to fit the games that were constantly growing in size onto CD-Roms and later onto DVD-Roms. While the XBOX360 had dual-layer DVD-Roms available, which fit beetween 6.8gb and 8.5gb, the PS3 had 53gb of storage available on blu-rays. The PS2 on the other hand only had ~4.4gb to work with. Fitting the full game including MP3 soundfiles, meshes, scripts, common code and .dds textures onto 4.38gigs would have been tough enough, whilst making the game run on the PS2s 32mb of ram and single core 36.8MHz processor. The more you load up the main storage medium, the harder a time the systems RAM will have. Other Titles of that time that also came out on the PS2 AND were also published by EA like NFS ProStreet ran GOD AWFUL on the PS2, which is why I'm all the more impressed with the smooth gameplay of Nascar 08. Conclusion: whilst delivering some step-down to the previous games Nascar 08 a great game and a technical marvel in it self running SO SMOOTH on the heavily outdated PS2.

Even if it's a one-off season, a season of this game would be fun to watch.

I've always loved the game even to today as I replayed it recently. What I've noticed is that the AI will try to match the player's pace which may or may not cause flips at most road courses and a couple ovals. When given the right combo, it makes for a banger race.

Carl Edwards had a contract with a different gaming company, and that was why he wasn't in the Nascar games for a couple of years until his contract ended.

I actually had the PS2 version of this game as a kid. Although I never really did anything advanced with the game, it's cool to see that this specific version has some merit to it :)

This was my absolute favorite Nascar game, and even to this day I say it's the best Nascar game ever, although probably because I've never played 07. The physics in this game are way better than current gen games and the wrecks are way more accurate. I loved going to Daytona with cautions off and driving the wrong way to play chicken with the leader and try to destroy the whole field and send cars flying

I remember playing the hell out of this game. As someone who was also in the same boat of not being able to afford a current gen console at the time (PS3 in my case), the PS2 version of this game was the only one I could get. Pretty much did a career mode and such. I remember utilizing the hell out of that mid-race save because I did ALOT of long races. Not quite sure why the Roush cars of Kenseth and Biffle had the most paint schemes (Something that remains the case for the PS3 and Xbox versions). This also happens in the National series as well (Though with multiple cars as you have Biffle for instance in one car, while Todd Kleuver in the other). Speaking of 2 of the same cars, this happens ALOT in the National Series. The licensing is funky for cars with multiple drivers.

I low key thought Reed Sorenson was going to be a good driver when he moved up to Cup. He was really good in the lower series. I dont know if he just lacked talent or got moved up too fast, but Ganassi equipment also went to crap right around that time. For sure, he was better than David Stremme, though. After Ganassi let him go, he never really got a decent ride again. Was in the Petty 43 for a short while, but they weren't much better than Ganassi. Shame

i played Nascar 08 alot when i had it for ps2. i still have it today along with my original ps2. that and dirt to Daytona were the only 2 racing games i played back then.

Another cool features was end of the race you can see how many laps everyone lead and there was a graph that was pretty cool. Also car of tomorrow was used for short tracks in season and career. Only bad part of this game is Martinsville the AI make no attempt to make the conner they will flat out drive through you

NASCAR 2005: Chase for the Cup to me is still the best Nascar game of my childhood. Had so many more features. They even had cheat codes and secret cars/tracks. I remember doing either a challenge or cheat code to get Dover night race (which doesnt exist in real life). I played that game more than any other game ever.

Are you playing this on the PCSX2 emulator? If so there are widescreen patches you can apply so the aspect ratio will be correct thus the cars won't look so wide.

Did you ever figure out what to do with your custom cars other than just quick races and how to upgrade them I have it on ps2 as well and cant figure out how to upgrade them or where to race them.

My most memorable driver is Matt Kenseth, Been playing the old Nascar Heat, Nascar 2000, Nascar 2001, Nascar 2002 with his car.

If I remember correctly on ‘08 the bottom and apron are viable bc they didn’t code them correctly I would always put two tire on the yellow line and rip and cut a second a lap

It really maddens me with this game because there were so many amazing paint schemes in 2007 that nascar dropped the ball on. Just two drivers. Dale Jr and Tony Stewart. Jr had the intimidator scheme, the Ralph scheme, the Elvis scheme, the Allstars game scheme. Tony had the Shrek 2 scheme, Madagascar scheme, power aid schemes, the home depot 25th anniversary scheme.

I wasn’t sure if it was just because it came out when I was at the perfect age to understand how to drive better in these type of games. But, I always prefer NASCAR 08 ps2 to all the others in terms of the racing dynamics.

I remember this game specifically because Stewart was my favorite driver. The thing is NASCAR 08 on the ps2 was gold. I had an Xbox 360 but played on the ps2 instead.

I got this game from a GameStop one time. It was fun for awhile.

My favorite nascar game was nascar racing 3 on the PC. The game came out in 99' but the graphics looked so clean even today.

Forgot to mention that I managed to get Nascar 08 for the PS3 a few years ago from Ebay (Game looked like it barely was ever used) and holy crap, what a difference it was. Think I made a short video series of me going through the old games but I tried both with my Logitech G27 and while the Physics didn't feel that much different from 07 and 06 on the PS2 version, the PS3 version felt way different. Compared to what was in 09, the cars didn't feel so tight or understeery and, to me anyway, felt loose (Which, after figuring out the braking, made doing laps around Watkins Glen just that much more fun since I tend to like a car where I can use the rear to steer). If you happen to still have your 360, I'd say pick up that version of NASCAR 08. Think it'll be a really interesting experience for you.

It was what NT03/NT04 on PC which got slammed on release, but was actually pretty okay once they fixed things, plus, had a pretty decent career mode too, even if they default schemes for it were neon bright and never really worked well

little known fact which you can learn about by playing nascar the game 2011 is that as long as the number's font for each car is different and is a different team you can have the same number on the track at one time like with danica's 7 car and her teammate or whomever having a variant of the 7 so that 21 car on the track is legal

There is one. It's called Nascar Racing 2003 season. The mods are so good you can literally drive any season of Nascar you desire. I absolutely love it.
