Patrick Moha Just curious. It’s nearly two years on now. Did you get your copy? What was on it? I’ve been fascinated with the Humpback Whale sounds recorded by a scientist named Rodger Zalazney. I probably butchered his last name, but he used a technology for recording underwater sounds that was pretty new at the time- the good ole hydrophone.

It's not possible to buy an original. There are only 11 copies that exist. Two were on the Voyager and released in to space. One is on display in a museum, and the other 8 are archived in the Jet Propulsion Laboratory USA. The original records were recorded at 33 ans 2 thirds speed, and recorded on gold plated copper. Included was a cartridge and needle. The ones released in 2017 are not gold at all. Just gold coloured vinyl.

The Pioneer probes having the "address" of Earth makes me a little nervous. I wish they added a warning that us humans taste bad, just in case an alien intelligence does find one of them. When you quoted Sagan, I love that you didn't put any of the letters on top of The Pale Blue Dot, seeing that tiny little image of our planet, surrounded by huge letters added an emotional punch to that wonderful quote.

Goro Yamaguchi, a shihan (master) in shakuhachi & Japanese national treasure, (only 2 shakuhachi players ever gained that title, him and Aoki Reibo) played Tsuru no Sugomori, a famous honkyoku describing the flight of cranes, on that record. His flute performance on that record was likely one of my first inspirations to pick up the shakuhachi I guess. But Voyager 1 and 2 are still in our solar system, they aren't near interstellar space yet, they aren't even in the Oort cloud yet.

Just heard that NASA had sent a turntable into space, with instructions. Did they do this, on voyager ? If so , which turntable ?

98$ could be spent on something worth playing again and again not a conversation box set. that you only play once in a while.

Wait since there is no friction in space can't the voyager probes go on forever at a constant speed due to Newtons 1. An object in motion will stay in motion unless acted on by an outside force.
