Patrick Moha Just curious. It’s nearly two years on now. Did you get your copy? What was on it? I’ve been fascinated with the Humpback Whale sounds recorded by a scientist named Rodger Zalazney. I probably butchered his last name, but he used a technology for recording underwater sounds that was pretty new at the time- the good ole hydrophone.
Nice video. I couldn't help myself but thinking : "Man that music sounds like in a VSauce video!"
You really script and edit your videos excellently. A very professional job.

God forbid the gold records land in an alien ghetto, they'll just melt it down for the gold at their local alien pawn shop. They couldn't care less about the picture of the nude man and woman on the records... ha-ha-ha
Did you buy one?
@independentpuppy7520
6 жыл бұрын
It's not possible to buy an original. There are only 11 copies that exist. Two were on the Voyager and released in to space. One is on display in a museum, and the other 8 are archived in the Jet Propulsion Laboratory USA. The original records were recorded at 33 ans 2 thirds speed, and recorded on gold plated copper. Included was a cartridge and needle. The ones released in 2017 are not gold at all. Just gold coloured vinyl.

Cool video. I liked that you showcased a kickstarter. I've looked at that one and passed, but I'd like you to let us know about other campaigns in the future. Thanks!
Such a cool and informative video! P.S. You should do an update to your record collection video, like a part two with all the records you have now that you didn't then.
Voyager, still makes smile every time I hear the history of it. Our voices are out there. We need to send more voyagers.
I used your shoebox method for 45's and it's a great idea, thanks. It makes it much easier to flip through them.
I just found out about your channel and I'm happy you are doing this! Keep it up!
Excellent video extremely well put together, thankyou for an entertaining, interesting and informative overview
I knew about that record for a while but never knew it was being kickstarted as a replica. Thanks for the info, I pledged the $100 for the box set. Can't wait
Jarrett, I watch a lot of your videos, but this one was GREAT. Congrats for your research!!! Keep it going!!!!
The Pioneer probes having the "address" of Earth makes me a little nervous. I wish they added a warning that us humans taste bad, just in case an alien intelligence does find one of them. When you quoted Sagan, I love that you didn't put any of the letters on top of The Pale Blue Dot, seeing that tiny little image of our planet, surrounded by huge letters added an emotional punch to that wonderful quote.

Those records were absolutely beaultiful :0 And holy shit there were even pictures on it... Who knew that a record of this type (not vinyl because these are actually completely metal discs) would have such density!
Great video! well done!
Yay! Been waiting for this vid!
Came here to learn more about an interesting record I'd only briefly heard about, and ended up getting a perspective on life. Much needed in these crazy times. Great video! Now I'm curious what's on those records. Has the audio ever been made available to stream or download?
Very Good video-I have always enjoyed following the space program-I can remember watching the first men on the moon, and before that the Pre-Apollo space flights! Good Job! E
Yes! You actually did a video on my suggestion on FB!
Was so excited to learn "A Glorious Dawn" was available on vinyl, ordered it immediately. :o
Video starts at 7:54 Thank me later
Jarrett! If you ever have time you HAVE TO COME to Minneapolis Minnesota! They have one of best music scenes and long lasting record stores and music communities!
hope they put a brush in space too.. you know, that stardust ;)
I have seen the photo of the blue dot but I didn't know the fascinating story behind it. Thanks for a incredible video I really enjoyed the story behind this record. Carl Sagen was a brilliant guy who was able too get across very complex subject matter in a way that ordinary people could understand. You must have spent a lot of time recearching this video and putting the information together and it shows. Looking forward to seeing some of your other videos greetings from Atlantic City New Jersey USA
What an interesting video, Thanks Jarrett! :) Also, When will you be doing another Massive Mail Time video?

That was a very interesting video, it doesn't felt like 15minutes. You can keep such long videos pretty interesting, which is great. I NEED THIS RECORD! :O
Actually, one of those gold discs is back on earth. Jeff Bridges has got it
Amazing video!!!!! Thanks for making this even though I'm "lightyears" late in viewing. I love spaceeee
Nicely done Jarrett! It's hard to believe that probes are a light day away. Given their distance, it takes a day for any commands to get to the probe. Thanks for the kind shout out by the way and I hope your diggin' the records. Like the placement of the STS-130 sticker ;)
Thank you for this very interesting video, I'm gonna get the Cosmos book! And records as well if I can, because I'm quite late...

Vinyl Eyezz hi I have a question if you want to use a external preamp even though the AT come with one I makes a difference on sound just using the switch on phone mode have you try that? I'm using it like that on my Stanton t92 and y using a Cambridge audio 651p and I think it makes a difference. What do you think? I'm looking forward to get an AT
I actually recently watched a video on these! Very cool!!!
I got really excited when I saw this but I would only want a vinyl pressing of the original disc with the on disc photos, or at least a close recreation. Read the pictures were digital, surprisingly.
i loved the intro, so cool
Is the Carl Sagan/A Glorious Dawn track referenced in this video the same one on the melodysheep youtube channel, because in all seriousness, that is one of my favorite songs of all time and I absolutely need it on Vinyl if that's an option.
Great source of information!
How would one get the analog data off of the record and render it for viewing?
Jarrett, what color is your 45's box? Is that considered the "clear coat/natural" finish? I'd like to get one like yours, so thank you in advance for your response :)
Hello, please let me know what kind of format the photographs are stored on the Golden Record. Regards from Stig Österberg, Dalsbruk (in South Finland).

Hey Jarrett! I love the videos, I was wondering if you have the vinyl recording of the story of Star Wars? I do, it's in rough condition but I love it. My mom found it at a record store in Texas for ten bucks.
can I not get one anymore? Their website links are for twitter and Instagram so idk where I'd buy one

Goro Yamaguchi, a shihan (master) in shakuhachi & Japanese national treasure, (only 2 shakuhachi players ever gained that title, him and Aoki Reibo) played Tsuru no Sugomori, a famous honkyoku describing the flight of cranes, on that record. His flute performance on that record was likely one of my first inspirations to pick up the shakuhachi I guess. But Voyager 1 and 2 are still in our solar system, they aren't near interstellar space yet, they aren't even in the Oort cloud yet.
Do you always do that finger thing when you mention a link in the description
Hey, I just saw this video now for the first time and wish that I had known about it earlier. Does anybody know if it's possible to buy this amazing box from the kick starter anywhere else now, because I seriously want it! Thanks for any help or links
Holy cow, those records are still in space?! Fascinating!!!
I need those records!

hey, I have the same haxagonal sticker that's on your wooden crate

At which speed will the records be played.
Just had to comment. Great and informative video.
Wait since there is no friction in space can't the voyager probes go on forever at a constant speed due to Newtons 1. An object in motion will stay in motion unless acted on by an outside force.
