If you read my comment, I explain why he couldn't. The TL;DR version comes down to public knowledge. Everyone in the village knew Naruto was the Jinchuriki. The average citizen would have felt uneasy about their leader adopting the vessel of the monster that destroyed their homes and families. Other than a few authorized ninja and the other Kage, the average citizen is unaware of Kawaki and his powers. They just see him as an orphan from some small village.

I like how not just Naruto, but everyone in the room was concerned right away about Kawaki's reaction. Ino worked with mentally troubled kids with Sakura. Sarada has always been cognizant about people's emotions. And of course, Naruto knows better then anyone what Kawaki's going through right now. Kawaki just being in Konoha away from Jigen (his latest abuser) is the best thing that happened to him so far.

Sarada probably understood that he's dealing with something at the very least that's leaving him seriously disturbed. Maybe she didn't understand to the extent that Ino and Naruto and Sumire did, but she knew enough to be legit concerned and that's enough imo.

Ino helped open up clinics that specialize in helping traumatized youths after the war with Sakura. I think one of the novels Kishimoto wrote brings it up.

The way kawaki just relaxes is amazing, it shows that Naruto hasn't changed and that Kawaki is just a very traumatized child. This scene was very wholesome and the anime delivered!

Kawaki got a severe case of PTSD. The way they depicted this is so realistic. Kawaki acts just like a victim of abuse would. Including the excessive sorry's. I have met victims of abuse who acts just like that. It's always really hard to witness.

Naruto has some of the best character development as a father in anime.

Naruto had an anxiety attack in the middle of the 4th Ninja War and his best friend is basically powered by PTSD. He knew exactly what happened to Kawaki in this scene and acted accordingly.

I love how Boruto can make something so simple as putting flowers in a vase dramatic.

Pay close attention to where Naruto pulled Kawaki's head, or more specifically his ear. It's well known the sound of a heartbeat can help calm people down, especially if they're young.

Naruto's kindness is stronger than any jutsu if he can calm down a person who's been through as much as Kawaki has with just a 5 words. As Zabuza once said "You're words cut deeper than any blade".

That hugging scene was the highlight of the episode it made me tear up and almost cry ngl. Whole scene in flower shop was on point Sarada concern, Ino and Naruto as well. 10/10 episode ❤

This hug of Naruto to Kawaki definitely stole my heart!!! and this scene,brought tears to my eyes..

Naruto and Gaara be having one of the most tragic childhood and found peace at last in their hearts after fighting for it. Now adopting boys (Kawaki and Shinki) with tragic life and giving them the "hug" they have always wanted to feel when they were young. They will never let someone feel the same pain and loneliness or solitude they went through. Damn, Gaara and Naruto came a long way. I am so proud

I can relate with Kawaki, though I have never had a decent father. I have fictional fathers to tell me all will be ok. Ptsd sucks, you are scared from the inside and the terrible things that happened to you will never leave your mind. My older sister saved me from my abusive home and when I saw how normal families are. Ugh its hard to put into words. I felt like a caveman in her home for the longest time. The best part is living with animals. I space out constantly, having flashbacks like twenty times a day but my dog with nudge my hand or my cats will purr against my legs. Hell one cat is so energetic he climbs my body like a cat tower. I am grateful

The panic attack was so realistic. Hope more people see that the anime got _good_

Ever since kawaki showed up it's like boruto is a different show. It became insanely better

Kawaki's trauma during his childhood really reflects in his present actions. I think Naruto sees and feel it without even knowing him completely.

Kawaki is such a good addition to the Boruto anime and i like these episodes where Naruto and Kawaki bond

The father Kawaki never had but desperately needed...I resonate with him so much

My fave episode in boruto. It deeply resonates with victims of abuse and i am here for it! This is what made me root for kawaki and his desire to protect naruto.

That poor kid was having a ptsd flashback/panic attack. (He felt the past trauma/event over again and then his body/mind reacted.) I know someone who used to have these bad. Their heart would speed up, they'd start sweating/breathing fast, they felt like they had to run away and freeze up/stay still all at the same time. The mind gets overloaded with thoughts and panic. It's a hellish feeling. He was able to sort of hold it together impressively considering.

I'm enjoying the episodes with Kawaki incredibly much and how they're treating mental health issues, especially those concerning kids.

Naruto hugging kawaki is going to be used in soo many future flashbacks 😂😂

Nah apparently kawaki is a a year or 2 older than Boruto, like the same age as Iwabe since he was kept back a year. Explains why those 2 are kinda tall

Naruto doesn't want what happened to him and Garaa to happen to Kawaki.

How many people who carry difficult pasts in their lives are sometimes misunderstood and rejected. Sometimes the world doesn't see that they just need someone to offer their hand and support to help them come out of the darkness and sadness. For these things, Naruto is incomparable, the depth and meaning of this scene is simply magnificent.

This is insane!! Literally felt his PTSD!! Haven't cried in awhile but teared up at this. Meanwhile, Naruto is so warm, assuring and wholesome ❤️

@@KimiChawngthu-hq9pm first ep he says to boruto “I’ll send you same place I sent lord 7th” maybe he sent naruto and fam elsewhere to protect them and we just asssumed he was the villain cause he’s fighting boruto?

This is one of the moments I will always remember Hokage Naruto as. 😭

I mean to be fair Boruto isn't doing much either to spend time with him, and I think helping Kawaki get used to the village and feel safe is the more important right now

I mean kawaki at the moment is much more important. He needs to be protect and made sure he feels safe. He’s dealing with ptsd i don’t see boruto with that

The fact that naruto would go out of his way to help people like kawaki because he understands what they went through,even thought it meant death like what he did with gaara,is proof that he deserves to be hokage and one of the greatest anime characters of all time

These guys in the comments have no IQ. Naruto is not neglecting boruto, its his duty right now to welcome kawaki into the village. Kawaki is a troubled child with PTSD and needs help asap. Boruto isn't. Of course he wont get special treatment as of now. Even boruto himself understands this. If 2/3 of you weren't bandwagons and didn't skip episodes, you would know this lol

It's these type of scenes that cement Boruto as a successful follow up to Naruto. Not only giving us a interesting story with new characters, but showing us the totality of growth Naruto achieved by the end of Shippuden.

It’s great how naruto has grown as a father and a figure to the village.
