    5:30 without spoiling anything, there is no direct statements on the full size of the One Piece world, but based in pixel scaling done taking information from the story and images from the manga it has been estimated that the One Piece world is roughly 79.3x the size of our earth or for better understanding 75% the size of our Sun. Based on one in story image the world is depicted as have 7 moons, one having a sub moon. The only planets that are similar in our solar system are Jupiter, Saturn and Uranas... the smallest of which is 4x the size of Earth. So somewhere in that range.

That is a total surface area of 7.738 Trillion Square Miles on the conservative end in just the Grandline alone and that is a but a thin strip of ocean and the islands are far spread. For comparison Earth is only 196.9 Million Square Miles. That's roughly 39.3K times the surface area of the Earth or roughly 33% of the surface area of the Sun just in scattered islands in the Grandline.

    @@LLGTMTSorry to be that guy, but I’m afraid it simply can’t be that big - Alabasta is one of the larger landmasses the crew encounter in the story (Most other islands fit into a single panel and still have discernible architecture - They often seem to range around the size of a small city), and they still manage to walk 2/3 of the way across it in only 2 days. It would take most people in our world a month to walk in a straight line across Egypt. Moreover, we’ve seen that a person in One Piece can sail around the entire world many times in their lifetime, should they be fit to make the journey through the Grand Line. As far as we know, Roger even managed to visit every single known island on the Grand Line during his time as a pirate. If you sailed nonstop around a world the size you’re describing at speeds comparable to those you’d sail on earth, it would take around 50 years to circle the globe just once. It’s still a vast world to be sure, especially if Marco’s claim is true, but sun-sized it is not.

    @@givcon14 first don’t bother trying to apply real world logic to anime, because 9 times out of 10 it doesn’t work. Second, Oda (the author) was the one state Alabasta is an average sized island in the grand line and drew the comparison to Egypt. Third, Oda ignores size scaling most of the time, like Luffy throwing an Island sized fist in Wano, but his body is visible…. In reality you wouldn’t see him at all, Oda just doesn’t care about that when he choses. Example the river they cross in alabasta is stated 50 km wide by itself and that is a very small portion of the country and they swim half of that after the giant land crab they are riding sinks. They swam 15 miles roughly in a few minutes in story, see what I mean about logic not working here. Once again you are trying to apply real world logic and physics to anime, don’t because it doesn’t work. Roger sailed the entire grandline a second time in just 3 years after reach Lodestar the government stated last island in the grandline. He died at age 53…. Stoping at 20M+ islands while sailing based on your logic he’d have had to have lived to like 153…. The travel speed of sailing in OP has been discussed by many scaling groups before and on average speed most agree upon is that they are sailing at Massively Hypersonic+ or 767269 - 6706166 MPH. Citing extreme weather patterns and extreme sea currents as well as assist propulsion. Again don’t think so hard, because it’s anime…. Luffy can move FTL in combat while having time to say full sentence which makes zero sense what so ever.

    My favorite aspect of the world building in One Piece is that every island/area in the series have their own wiki page (at least most major ones have) where they have so much info in depth there and fun facts. It's mindboggling 0v0... and amazing! And a lot of fans have ventured in that rabbithole. From the culture, the history and the livelyhood of the people living per island/area, everything's so packed with information that it helps to make the world very well lived in. Every main character has a birthday, favorite foods and hobbies and a lot of side characters (and some animals) have extensive backstories. Even their ships have floor plans xD

    OK this might be a rant but I'll try my best to keep it short. First off, great reaction, looking forward to seeing more from you. The world of One Piece is as big as the sun and the scale of everything is massive. Australia or north America would be just another Island on that world. As for the scale thing, some ships could fit the colossal titan from SNK. To give you One Piece's approach to world building. Imagine if in Naruto, the mc was a rogue ninja that traveled around every corner of the world. Each area, each village he visits is as fleshed out and has as many iconic characters as Konoha. And we spend enough time to get intimately acquainted with each era, it's food, culture, people, politics etc. It is what makes One Piece so intimidating to get into and the reason why after 1000 episodes, we're still looking forward to more. Quite paradoxical XD

    Amazing thing about all these places and the world building is that many of them are connected storytelling wise and it all clicks together the more you watch. Sometimes we’ll even check in with an island the strawhats have been to ages ago and see how they react to or get affected by current world events. One Piece also does a great job at going in depth when explaining an islands or characters backstory hundreds of years before the current story, establishing different culture for each island, races/species, discrminination, religions, and even down to the dialect and clothing style. Oda also highlights government corruption really well showing propaganda with the news reports and different morality stand points. You also can’t be a One Piece watcher and not have a lot of questions. Even caught up to the manga, the more he answers the more questions it opens up (in the best way possible). It may be slow at the start but it’s definitely an amazing journey because the lore, characters, and fights are so entertaining. Also not sure if anyone told u this but in case you’re worried that the one piece isn’t real or that it’s just “the adventure/friends we made along the way”, oda has confirmed its an actual tangible thing in an interview (im sure fans would kill him if the journey was all for nothing lol) and with all the current reveals it’s definitely something ridiculous. Enjoy your journey!

    Think of East Blue, where you are probably at right now, as the middle of nowhere. It's rural and poor and boring and nobody cares about the people there, not even the government. And because of it, it is pretty normal and peaceful compared to the rest of the world. It is so bad that even the other three Blues (North, West and South) tend to look down on it and people coming from there for being weak. Meanwhile, the Grand Line is basically a melting pot of chaos. Anyone with any sort of ambition is typically going there to accomplish it. It is where all the movers and shakers naturally congregate despite the utter danger the place represents. So once you get going and see the full worth of the Grand Line, you'll start seeing all the exaggerated madness that you haven't seen yet in the East Blue.

    Blackbeard is built up as the foil and rival to the main character Luffy and shows up many times and we know quite a lot about him though he still carries many mysteries and has not had a direct battle with Luffy yet. He might be the from behind final boss if I'm being honest, hard to say.

  • @fivedudes
    @fivedudes5 ай бұрын

    Yes, there is many characters based off real pirates and parodies of all sorts of other real people. If they straight dont up dont have their same name or a part of the name changed then their name will be a pun based off that real person life. Puns are everyone in One Piece. And yeah the world that one piece takes place in, Oda has said the planet is many times larger then the Earth, so even the *islands* are the size of continents for us. Which you can argue causes the extreme weather that can isolate places causing a development gap. But also since OP doesnt take place on earth, so its not following our order of events in human history its had its own history of technological development. Its not also that the animation quality got better as tech did, they change the design and animation style to fit many of the arcs location theme. One example because it was in the vid but for the Japanese like place they changed the art style for, one of the major parts was the line art was big round lines into thinner lines like a Japanese ink painting brush stroke. One Piece world building is great because all the characters, their location and what they are upto is updated a bit by bit. as we go and other characters outside that the crew have met also interact, so even when they arnt on screen the next time they go back to catch up things will have changed alot just like the real world the pieces are always moving.

    Naruto was my #1 Anime before One Piece, but One Piece just checks all the boxes while causing the least grievances. one thing that really irritated me in Naruto was the fixation on Sasuke, it really made me question for a while why was the Anime called Naruto with all the focus on Sasuke? between that and Sakura's useless booty for most of the show annoyed the hell outta me. but no, One Piece has none of that disjointed focus nor are the female characters useless eye candy or witnesses to the heroes, they have their own strengths and if anything are support characters. that plus the Worldbuilding, Lore, Storytelling, it's all top notch, it is an epic story that everyone needs to witness, because while it starts out simple and goofy, it becomes all that much more.

    Y a I understand a lot of the gripes on the female characters for Naruto. The reason why it never bothered me was just growing up watching the show, the girls I knew were the same age as Sakura so at the time it was easy 12 year old me to be like "yup this is accurate" and now as an adult I just say well they're kids.
