This was one of the most intense fab work I've done so far, this ford 8.8 came out of an explorer and is going into our beloved #3 65 mustang. Maybe a 4 link soon?

When I was a fabricator we had many days where we had to do a LOT of heavy grinding. If I ever forgot to put a dust mask on I, and many of my coworkers, would end up with what we called "Black Booger Syndrome".

Cool 😎 I looked into nowing a diff many year's ago, and had books from hotroders and engineers they had set up a drop saw and made sure it was straight to cut and bolted into a jig to keep it straight , but I never did one lol back then to lots of guys doing them so could buy one already done , but if I do a project I may need to do this in future?

Tape measure ends slide on purpose so when you hook them on something, you get the right length. It moves exactly the width of the lip.

Always great to see you work things out. BTW your measuring tape is correct with the loose end; it slides so you can do a butt measure, or a hook measure and it allows for the thickness of the end piece.

Your tape measure is working correctly. The tab is designed to live like that. That slop compensates for the thickness of the tab, if you are using it in a push or pull mode.

The hook on the end of your tape measure moves the thickness of it to allow for hook and butt measuring..that's what makes it accurate

Might want to check the clutch pack in that. They're a wear item and many are worn out by the time they get to the wrecker stage. Better than putting in the car only to find out you don't have a LSD. 😊

For the clocking, you could always go back and look at your footage. You wrote "like, subscribe" on the tape. You could line that up same as on the camera, then add your clocking marks.

If you have a next time use the axle if you can get the clip in you can make it work, Straight and square is a bigger deal. Cars are not built that precisely back in the day.
