Napoleon has really hit a home run here. This grill Is so stinking awesome! What is the phantom grill exactly? Well the phantom comes in 3 models, they have the new travel Q, the Rogue 425 SE and this grill in the video which is the Prestige 500. Lets clear up a misconception. First off, this grill is not a new model. A lot of people think its a whole new model, and it actually isnt. Its a regular prestige 500 that is absolutely tricked out. With 3 major differences. Its like a Ford F-150, and the raptor addition. The raptor is still a F-150 but way more awesome. That is essentially what the analogy is here. So what is different about this grill? Lets go over the 3 major differences. First and the most obvious thing is the paint finish. This grill is super unique in this way. I have never seen a grill with this matte black system. Which looks unbelievable! This grill is so beautiful and the attention to detail is super exquisite. The other upgrade is the warming rack, it is also super unique and I have not seen a multi functional warming rack like this either. And probably the most useful feature is going to be the cast stainless cooking grates. They really make this grill truly one of kind. I have never seen a grill with these features. This is actually going to change the way you cook, which is one of the most important features. Also this grill is super limited edition, and we have very limited qualities available.

    I need to say a big thanks to the team at Embers, I’ve had too many sh*t grills over the years and always thought Weber was the benchmark and had my eyes on the 335. After watching your videos I can proudly say I’ve ordered my Prestige 500 from my local shop here in Toronto. Would have loved to support you guys but it made sense for me to buy locally. Keep up the great work!

    I buy everything based on reviews. Some said this was hard to put together kzread.infoUgkxCx5fHawkK9OoV-ojFrY8JLnZrFwAmvUt some guy said 2 hours and 2 beers later. I didn't drink beer like I was going to. I didn't feel like going to the store. I'm assuming I would have had at least 3. I took my time. Stepped outside for a cigarette break a couple times but all in all it was about a 3 hour project for me but it wasn't like it was difficult or anything . Only pictures but everything is pretty organized and labeled although I didn't see any #s on the actual pieces like it shows in the diagrams. Only the screws were labeled. On the cardboard part of the packaging on the back side. I put it together in my living room too. It wasn't supposed to rain today but it's Michigan and I couldn't wait so I put it together in my living room. Without beer but beer would definitely have made it more fun that's for sure. I'm giving this a 5 for easy assembly. I'll update after it stops raining when I can take it out of my living room and cook some food on it. Hope this helps at least for people who think they can't put this together because I did and you can too . And there are extra screws. I got nervous and immediately came here to see if others had the same experience and they have. You're not doing it wrong. There will be extra screws. Be patient. Don't rush it. Drink beer. Happy assembling

    I bought this grill and cannot be more satisfied. I highly recommend getting the rotisserie basket and the cast iron griddle accessories. Compared to a Weber, I think it’s a clear winner. Even compared to the more expensive Blaze LTE, that does have the better cast stainless burners, I think this grill has more features and is a better buy. My only issues is that I wish the rotisserie had another inch or two vertical real estate, it had a propane slide out holder, and it had a rotisserie holder for storage on the back of the grill. I love love the infrared side burner with the cast stainless grate. I use it all the time for steaks.

    Hi from the UK. Great videos. So I am deciding between this and the prestige pro 500. I’m not excited about the Matt black (I prefer the classic stainless look but this is also good.) I’m excited about the cast stainless grates. But it doesn’t have interior lights. But it DOES have a battery, so no wires, tripping hazards etc. So. What do I do. Are the cast grates REALLY going to be that much better than the 9.5mm rods and slightly thinner sear zone rods on the pro? They seem to be a killer feature.

    Hi, great review. I have a question about the grates. Why are the cast stainless grates better than the normal stainless grates in your opinion?

  • @PatrickDeschamps

    @PatrickDeschamps

    3 жыл бұрын

    they are thicker, but much better for heat retention. The normal stainless grates are actually multiple rods of stainless welded together. These rods normally hold heat very well, but I believe cast grates do this job much better. Also, the fact that these are reversible is a huge advantage when cooking juicy stuff. Burgers will go amazingly.

    If you want sear marks, as a lot of people assume they do, this is probably a smidge better because they're presumably a smidge heavier (more thermal mass). However, I actually view this difference as a small negative (probably not a big difference in performance between these grates). A good quality grill should sear primarily via infrared energy instead of direct conduction from the grill grates (which is inherently uneven). IMO the ideal sear should be edge-to-edge and as even as possible--jump starting this by branding them works directly against this goal. A lot of gas grills, especially those without ceramic infrared burners, can't get that hot so that's the best they can do. The sear burner on the side should be able to sear perfectly well without the help of a heavy grill grate (less searing from the grill grates should be better here) amazingribs.com/more-technique-and-science/more-cooking-science/myths-we-want-grill-marks-and-you-should-not-flip If it were up to me, I'd take the matte black finish (assuming that holds up well) with the standard stainless steel grates, other things equal. Edit: On the other hand, if I really liked this grill at the price, I wouldn't let that hold me back. If I wanted the optimal steak, regardless of the model here, I'd probably preheat the side sear burner with the grill grate removed, then (carefully!) put it back on just before I start searing, taking care to flip and rotate a bunch. The steaks should be done before the grill grate gets hot enough to put sear marks on. I might even buy a *cheap* thin grill grate for producing an optimal sear on the regular with less fuss even though it probably wouldn't last more than a few years (worth it)...

    Saw a great review on keeping your grill spotless without going all in on the dread "mo grease" cleaning disaster. First is use a potato rub on the surface to put a stop to having your meat stick to the grill grate in the first place. Second is use an onion to surface clean the grill grate after use instead of a brush. Third for deep cleaning just throw some newspaper on the ground, take the grill grates and place on the newspaper and spray with plain old distilled water and cover with another sheet of news paper and let sit for 24 hours. Haven't tried it myself but look forward to. Might be a nice addition to these reviews to show actual cooking and cleaning as all of these new grill grates can be the most expensive part of the grill now and taking proper care of that will help hold the value of item tremendously but more importantly make great food "come one come all" which to me is the whole point.

    Ok I finally took the plunge and bought the Napoleon Prestige Phantom...I gave away my Weber limited edition with sear burner and side burner. Assembly was pretty easy and time consuming if you follow directions. I must say I am not impressed. First of all the doors in my opinion suck. I found getting an even gap difficult. Second I find the grease tray very small. Third the rotisserie takes forever. As I write this a 7lb chicken has been on for 2 1/2 hours and still not done using the infrared burner. I seared some steaks on the side infrared burner and truthfully it was no better than on the Weber with sear burner. I find myself constantly freaking out to clean the matte black finish if anything drips on it and I bought rubber matts on Amazon for the side shelves so utensils or plates do not scratch shelves. If you are upgrading from a char broil grill or a Home Depot grill then I highly recommend it. If you have an older higher end Weber in good shape I would save the money. I am just happy I did not spend the extra 500 for the Napoleon pro with the lights which I almost did

    Does the cast stainless steel has to be seasoned like regular cast iron?

  • @petel5692

    @petel5692

    3 жыл бұрын

    I'm by no means a metallurgy expert, but good quality stainless steel should not corrode in (normal) outdoor environment like iron or ordinary steel does, so it shouldn't need to be seasoned. It probably can't even hold a seasoning like cast iron or carbon steel can (the carbon needs something to bond with effectively). That said, I *hate* cast iron for grill grates because it is highly prone to corroding and usually isn't very useful otherwise. The combination of high temps burning the seasoning off (especially when searing!) and being left outdoors makes it a really poor choice IMO. It's more useful in underpowered grills that don't put out a lot of heat from the burners since thick cast iron can sear when left to preheat long enough. I suppose the additional mass and beefier construction of the cast stainless grates implies it's better, but any moderately thick stainless steel grate will last longer than your grill is apt to. People tend to look for this because it shows "solid" construction, though it's total overkill and actually sort of a negative IMO. Heavier grates will put sear marks on your protein more readily, which some people find impressive, but that's probably not desirable taste-wise if your grill is capable of searing without them (this should be!) amazingribs.com/more-technique-and-science/more-cooking-science/myths-we-want-grill-marks-and-you-should-not-flip

    As I stated above just take a potato and rub it on the surface to make it non-stick. Most simple form of surface cleaning is using an onion cut in half and rubbed on. As for a top to bottom "soak" just use newspaper as a base and spray down with distilled water and cover with another page of newspaper and let sit overnight/24 hours. Most seasoning techniques I've seen is to use a very light amount of oil to rub down the surfaces and stick the "to be seasoned" in the oven at medium high to high heat (325-400) to dry out the metal then add a light amount oil with a cloth and repeat. I only use wood to scrape my cast iron and clean and season after every use with the "onion method" looking like a great way to do that when hot...then laden some cloth with oil and darken up...apparently on both sides for these beauties.. heaten up again but again to dry not to smoke. If your grill grates are smoking during the seasoning process you've added way way way too much oil. Be interesting to see an actual video of this in fact working of course..

I was dead set on spending the extra $500 on this beast... but BBQs outside are hard enough to keep clean and free from dings and scratches... Spending $500 more just to have to baby it or have it look like I took a weed whacker to it after a couple years, makes me say "pass"... now... if they could do some sort of Rhino Liner type of coating...
