The tyranids are actually fleeing from the American army, who left Terra aeons ago to distant galaxys in the constant quest for more oil

The ranges lining up makes some sense since wargaming started with us civil war & napoleonic games

I imagine that space marines are so colourful for the same reason Superman is, if someone is going to be shot at they want it to be them

A while ago I was comparing 40k weapon's range in tabletop (in inches) to their range in the roleplaying games (in meters), here's what I found: 6" equated to 20m - Hotshot Laspistol 12" equated to 30m - Laspistol 18" equated to 60m - Hotshot Lasgun 24" equated to 100m - Lasgun this means that: the first 6" represents 20m the second 6" represents 10m the third 6" represents 30m the fourth 6" represents 40m and so on a weapon (i believe a pulse rifle) with 30" range had 150m range therefore the fifth 6" represents 50m (there was alot of outliers though, I tried to go with the most popular weapons)

Damn, I was going to say that a Turnip28 unit could shoot farther than a space marine, but they have a range of only 90 feet (or about 27.4m) Makes sense, I suppose.

Did you guys not have to throw small balls in elementary school? I was always told that was a vestige of conscription meant to prime people to throw grenades. I just looked up the minimum expected distance for a boy in 6th grade, and it's 18 meters. I'd think 20-30 meters for soldiers is an underestimate, though I don't remember my record :D Maybe that leather ball was lighter than a grenade...

Those measurements for a mile would have come from the brits. We just kept them as it is hard for a nation larger than an island to completely change measurement systems.

Apparently when Europe was switching, the US president at the time ordered a set of prototypes so they could switch too. But they got raided by pirates, and they stole the prototypes.

Russia used to use a form of imperial, believe it or not. China had their own form and so did many other large nations. The size of a country doesn't make a difference, whatsoever.

The entire world besides the US swapped from various forms of Imperial to Metric. The US's size is irrelevant, you just think you're more special than everyone else.
