Army Sponsored 'Nandimithra Gama' Vested in Displaced Families in Wanni
The new ‘Nandimithra Gama’ Housing Complex, crafted and funded by all Regiments, and formations and brought to the successful completion by troops of the Security Force Headquarters with the expertise of the Engineer Services Regiment.
‘Nandimithra Gama’ with 309 new houses was also erected as a fitting tribute to the memory of the legendary giant, Nandimithra who had lived in that area in Vavuniya, thousands of years ago as per historic chronicles.
It all happened several months ago when the Commander of the Army during an inspection tour of Army projects, inquired from the Wanni Commander whether the displaced people could be resettled in this location too as a tribute to the memory of the most senior disciple, Nandimithra of the King Dutugemunu.
The new Nandimithra Gama with all public amenities comprises a community hall, library, temple, museum, marketplace, playground, dispensary, etc and the troops serving Divisions, Brigades and Battalions of the SFHQ-W alone, came forward to pocket out their own resources and money voluntarily for completion of nearly 100 new houses out of the total of 309.
වව්නියාව පදවිය මාර්ගයේ කි.මී. 20ක් පමණ ගිය විට මෙම ස්ථානය හමුවේ. (ඒරුපොතාන වැව පහු කර කි.මී 2ක් පමණ ගියවිට). රට එක්සේසත් කළ ගැමුණු සේනාවේ සිටි දස මහා යෝදයන්ගෙන් එක් අයෙක් ලෙස නන්දිමිත්‍ර යෝධයා විශාල සේවයක් කර තිබේ. මිත්‍ර නම් වූ ඔහු පසුව නන්දිමිත්‍ර බවට පත්ව තිබේ. ඔහු පිළිබදව, කුඩා කළ සිදු කළ මිරිස් ගල ඇදගෙන යාම, උණ පදුර උදුරාගෙන යාම ආදී කතා කීපයක් ජනවහරේ පවතී. දුටුගැමුණු රජු යුධ කටයුතු අවසන් වූ පසු දිවයිනේ උතුරු නැගෙනහිර කොටස්වල ආරක්ෂාව නන්දිමිත්‍ර යෝදයාට පැවරූ බව කියවේ. එම කටයුතු ඔහු විසූ මෙම ගම ආශ්‍රිතව සිදුව තිබේ. මෙම ගල කිඹුලකුගේ හැඩයෙන් යුතු වීම නිසා කිඹුලාගල නම්වී තිබේ. ගල් තලාව ශෛලමය කන්දක් මත පිහිටා තිබේ. අනුරාධපුර, වව්නියාව, ත්‍රීකුණාමලය, මන්නාරම හා මුලතිවු යන දිස්ත්‍රික්කවල ප්‍රදේශයන් නිරීක්ෂණය කළ හැකිය.
මෙම කන්ද මුදුනේ කටාරම් ලිපි හා සෙල්ලිපි පවතී. පුරාවිද්‍යා චක්‍රවර්තී එල්ලාවල මේධානන්ද හිමිට අනුව, දේවානම්පියතිස්ස රජුගෙ කල නාග හා උත්තිය යන රජුගේ සොහොයුරන් උතුරු කොටස පාලනය කළ බව, ගල්ලෙන් සංඝයාට පූජා කළ බව මේවායේ සදහන් වේ. ලංකාවේ පැරණිම බ්‍රාහ්මී ලෙන් ලිපි ඇත.
මෙම කන්ද තුළ ක්‍රි.පූ. තුන්වන සියවසේ සිට ක්‍රි.ව. පළමු වන සියවස දක්වා කාල පරාසය තුළ බ්‍රාහ්මීය අක්ෂරයෙන් ලියවුණු ලෙන් ලිපි 13කි. කටාරම් කෙටූ ගල්ලෙන් 23කි. ශෛලමය පොකුණු කිහිපයක්ද මුදුනේ පවතී. කටාරම් කෙටූ ලෙන් වල භික්ෂූන් වහන්සේලා වසන්නට ඇත. ගල් තලාව මත හතරැස් ආකාරයට ඇදන් මෙන් සකසා තිබේ. එය සැතපීම සදහා සකස් කළ ආසන විය යුතුය. කොදු ඇට පෙළේ හැඩය අනුව මනා ලෙස ගලින් එම ආසන තනා තිබේ.
කිඹුලාගල දෙපසින් ඒරුපොතාන හා නීරාවිය යන ඓතිහාසික ස්ථානයන් පිහිටා තිබේ.
