don't get emotional dude, yes there are people who can't appreciate reel good musicians without always comparing them because they have not reached a level where when you get so good that you stop competing and start appreciating other good musicians in their uniqueness and can't miss the opportunity to jam, have fun as they bring your creativity forward. Marcus is a legend cause he left us, bass players, with legendary groove lines that beginners and pros alike learn to play and will remember him for. Then you find virtuosos like Andrien whom I admire so much because of his fluid playing but can't remember a distinct or memorable groove created by him, the only thing I learn from him is technics and licks. Unless virtuosos like Andrien and many more out there live us with memorable bass lines or grooves in songs or albums that will immortalize them, they will only be remembered as virtuosos. Mozart was not immortalized by his playing but by his compositions that are played, learned, and taught in music academies all over the world. RHCP BASSIST IS MOSTLY KNOWN BECAUSE OF HIS BASS GROOVE yet he is not as fluid and dazzling in areas like improvisations like the amazing Andrien. Unfortunately, as a bassist being able to come up with an amazing and MEMORABLE bass groove is the key to pay bills and being remembered, remember the bass lines of cool & the Gang? yea I presume, the bass player wasn't really impressive but his bass line made the band and the bucks!

Close your eyes, make other musicians (not just bassists) in a blind test, the only recognizable stylist is Marcus. Maybe he is not as fast or subtile as the other two, but he is a much stronger voice ! He is a true stylist... And as good pocket as the other two. But in the end, why make a competition ? The 3 are different, one american from Jamaica NY, one french, and one from Cameroon... just 3 vocabularies, 3 approaches to music. That's the beauty of music...

I Know a kid in india who have better feeling of bass playing that Marcus. And the irony is that this kid is a Big fans of Marcus Miller. Actually Marcus is his heroe. But anyway, put Richard Bona in front of any audience, and he'll make everyone dance, smiles, sing, claps in the hands. I was in a live concert of Marcus Miller in reunion Island where i live and damn it was really really Bad. Everything was good, the sounds ect, the crowd were like "C'mon Marcus " it was really embarassing. And WE paid for that, that sucks.

Looks like 3 old friends reunited for a bass section. :-))
don't get emotional dude, yes there are people who can't appreciate reel good musicians without always comparing them because they have not reached a level where when you get so good that you stop competing and start appreciating other good musicians in their uniqueness and can't miss the opportunity to jam, have fun as they bring your creativity forward.

NICE!
marcus is playing a 600 dollar bass while hadrien and richard play some of the most expensive basses out there.
