The way this scene was shot... their hairs softly blown by the wind, the way the sun and shadow touches their face while they kiss, the angle of the camera and the timing... it made the scene magical.

One thing I love about J-drama is that they don't have this unnecessary air brush filter on their actors' faces.

I jumped into this jdrama without knowing what the plot was (friends recommended it). So when I heard a few lines from First Love, I immediately knew I would love the whole series. It brought back memories of listening to Utada Hikaru, she was such a huge part of my 20s. I still have some of her albums stored in my antique external hard drive. :D

Love this scene and his smile. Would love a drama with these 2 as leads.

Everyone is (rightfully) praising Taisei Kido's acting in this scene, but I still cannot get over cute Rikako Yagi is here as well. Her eyes are so expressive! 😍

I cried many times to this series! Fantastic ending! I watched it 3x already! This J-Drama destroys all K-Drama i know! The issues are real.. divorce, pain, hardships, career choice, empathy with persons with disability/ sign language, child custody issues, mother & son relationship, talk about porn materials, little nudity, sacrifice, letting go & most especially the drama is on point.

Just finished this drama, but wow a lot to take from this one. It's of those drama that gave me a lot of emotions. I love it. Plus the soundtrack really brings nostalgia moments.

Agree. I am glad they got a happy ending in the present but I loved the chemistry of younger Yae and Harumichi. Needed more moments of the past.

I am Japanese but I was introduced this drama by my filipino friend. I just tried to watch it in English for learning because I am usually not interested in love stories much. BUT!!!!!!! This drama became my treasure. I rethought about my love to my family too. I really want to love people around me more now. This drama is just amazing.

Jdrama and Jmovies are not into more extravagant sets or theme they are leaning more towards natural and somehow realistic way of story telling that's why a lot of viewers can relate from the characters that the actors and actresses portray. Another thing is Japanese are really good in making tragic and sad stories they are the epitome of that genre since I've watched a lot of Jdrama and movies you cannot predict what is going to happen at the end.

THIS SERIES IS MASTERPIECE

I finished this drama like 3 days ago and decided to watch it again because it's so good. Especially the last 2 episodes. I've seen the trailer a long time ago but decided not to watch more of it to avoid the spoilers (good decision by the way). And when it became available, I also tried to stay away from it and not watch it, fearing that it will be too sad or maybe it's not great at all. Well for those who are still not sure if this is a good series, do yourself a favor and just watch it. I thought it just a typical couple of being happy and breaking up, but it's more than that. I won't spoil it for you. This show has a great story, beautiful scenery, and brilliant actors. One of the best jdramas out there. It's been a while since I watched a good jdrama since I switched to kdrama, but you wont go wrong with this one. Being a guy, I cried because I felt the deep love of the lead actor towards his gf. He would do everything for her to make her happy, and they're so much in love but fate have a different plan for them. It sucks though but that's life. Also, this show hit me differently because I'm a big fan of Utada Hikaru when she released the song Automatic (1998) and First Love (1999). And because of the popularity of the song First Love that it also became the official soundtrack of the jdrama "Majo no Joken" (1999). So making this drama in this generation and the director/writer being inspired by this song gave me so much joy and nostalgia. It takes me back in time when you're still young and full of silliness. I remember downloading all her songs in torrent since there is no youtube yet back then (those are the days. haha!) and copying it on a CD so I can play it in my car all the time. Lol! Sorry for the long comment..ano pa hinihintay ninyo? Go watch it! 😊

I wonder if most people get it. I'll explain why it has added meaning for native speakers/Utada Hikaru fans (not native but I am a Utada Hikaru fan and I get the extended meaning of this line). The song that's playing in the background is the theme song to the show, Utada Hikaru's "First Love," which the series is named after. The first line of the song is "Saigo no Kiss wa tabako no FLAVOR ga shita nigakute setsunai kaori" (The last kiss has the flavor of tabaco (tabaco generally refers to cigarettes in Japanese), a bitter and painful scent." Utada intentionally uses the English word "Flavor" and not the Japanese word for flavor, "aji." So when Yae says, "tabako no aji" (tastes like cigarettes), Harumich replies "flavor to iinasai" (please call it flavor). He's using a word from the song.

if you have not watch this series you better watch it . i fell inlove with all characters showing 2 time setting is a brilliant idea of the writer, you come up with questions and whys then youll get answers along the way, wow very nice jdrama

I like how the drama jumps back and forth into older 90’s drama filter and then back to the present 2000’s filter.

Ghurl this dude carried the show for me. The older cast are good but this guy Kido Taisei just brought a different light to it.
