    Damaraland looked super scenic indeed :D All those rocks seemed like they had just been placed there in the middle of the desert. Love how you described the impression of feeling lost there. This was a great compilation.If I had the chance Naankuse wildlife sanctuary is definitely a place where we'd spend a lot of time. Being able to see so many animals in one place and help them have a better life is something I would love to do.

  • @EllaMcKendrick

    Totally, right? They're just sitting there in what looks like unnatural positions. Nature is awesome. Naankuse is great. I spent 2 weeks volunteering there (which wasn't enough) and of course I had to visit again on this road-trip. It's just amazing what they do for the animals :) as well as looking after the animals that can't be released, they also help release and track wild animals and help with the human-wildlife conflict issue.

    Thank you! Yes, my series was quite long so I felt a summary was in order to help others plan their trips 😁 I've seen pictures of the shipwrecks by air and agree it seems the best way to see them, especially because most of them are inaccessible by road. I daren't look at the prices! Thank you so much for your support. Great idea about adding a card. I will support your channel in some way too. I may make another Namibia video and could mention and link to yours, otherwise I will add a card to yours as well 🤗

  • @bugsandbears

    Looks like a different planet. Your footage of the Gepard and the Leopard at the Naankuse Wildlife Sanctuary looks so stunning. You must have been really close. We hope that they can release most of the animals back into the wild. But of course, it was probably even nicer to see the wildlife in Etosha in the wild. We’ve done a safari in South Africa in Kruger National Park once and also opted to go with our own rental car. It gives you so much more freedom and it’s nice to stay inside the parks lodges or campsites. We were lucky enough to see all big five there. Looking forward to your upcoming adventures! Doris & Matthias

  • @EllaMcKendrick

    @EllaMcKendrick

    Thanks! All the animals we see at the sanctuary unfortunately can't be released into the wild. The ones that they do release we never see as almost as soon as they are there, they are back in the wild again. These animals can't be released because they have grown up with close contact with humans eg some were raised as pets 🙄 and others were hand-reared and bottle-fed as they are orphans whose mother was shot by a farmer. An animal with such close contact with humans has lost their fear of them and is therefore dangerous. Wow, a safari in the Kruger must have been amazing! I'd love to visit there. You must have been so lucky to see so many animals.

Sometimes it's better that these animals aren't released back into the wild where they could get hunted. What a great recommendation. I can't believe how many wild animals you saw. I'm so jealous! Is driving by yourself in these places with wild animals safe? Thank you for sharing! You deserve so many more subscribers, your videos are amazing!

    Yes, exactly! There's a reason these animals can't go back. They would be easier to hunt as they're not scared of people. Driving with wild animals feels safe. Of course, you have to respect them. If you were harassing an elephant for example by getting really close and making loud noises, that's when they could become stressed. But no the biggest worry is driving through towns really as there is the odd person looking to prey on tourists. Thanks for your kind words 💖

    These places surely deserved their spot in the top 5! All very different, all very beautiful. If you do self-guided tours, do you need to let park rangers know your plan / leave contact information? The shipwreck coast looked so empty and endless.

    That is a good conclusion and summary of your travel. Naankuse wildlife sanctuary, Etosha national park, Damaraland, the Skeleton cost, Sossusvlei. What is the approximate distance of your travel?

  • @EllaMcKendrick

    @EllaMcKendrick

    A quick estimate on google maps is 1,500km of travel in the 2 weeks we were there. It may be slightly more as I just quickly drew that out.

    Namibia looks awesome! I've heard about the Skeleton Coast before too and it sounds fascinating - I was told it also got it's name from the many whale bones along the shore that are leftover from the whaling industry, is that true? (Looks like you may have found some at 3:29?)

    @@EllaMcKendrick definitely, I booked a self drive tour through explore-namibia and they are the same owners as Asco, we had a new Toyota Hilux, fully equipped with all the gear needed. Only bought provisions. They even have a app that guides the route with all the camping's pre-booked and road side assistance. Truly magnificent experience!

    Cool intro with the song and 'breaking up' effect. Did you have to go to a specialty rental place to get the truck with the tent on top and a snorkel? I would love to do a self-guided drive through that park; did you ever feel like it was just you and the animals?

  • @EllaMcKendrick

    @EllaMcKendrick

    5 жыл бұрын

    Everywhere had cars with roof-top tents in Namibia! The snorkel was a but more unique but we didn't really need it as Namibia is a desert country. Oh yeah, often it felt like just us and animals. We could drive for miles without seeing another car on the road!

    Thank you! I'm glad you found it useful. Prices have probably changed since my visit a couple of years ago but I found that campsites cost an average of £12 GBP per night and the car was around £100 GBP per day. You would also have to factor in fuel prices for the amount of milage you wish to do. Food is cheaper if you buy your own from a supermarket and cook it. It will only be a couple of pounds per meal that way. Alternatively, the restaurants weren't too expensive. Hope this helps!

    Thanks! I had no problems at all getting my drone to Namibia. We had a layover in South Africa but they didn't even bat an eyelid at it in security. At Windhoek airport no one checked our bags. I did go through the process to get a permit for flying it as legally that's what you're meant to do but honestly no one checked and I had no issues flying it. My best advice would be to stick to the regulations - don't fly over towns and cities, don't make too much of a scene and don't fly in national parks. I see lots of people sneak their drones into Sossusvlei but I wouldn't recommend it as it's illegal in Namibia and it would be a shame if Sossusvlei park had to check people for drones like they do in Etosha as that was a big hassle! Namibia is an amazing country - you'll love it! I hope to see some videos from your trip :)

    My favourite eco-tourism was being with the Himba in Opuwo that side of the Damara land 800 Km more or less..living with them and their lifestyle,eating what they eat ,milking, walking in the with them learning about the different animals and how to react when you meet one them, they are good people.
