Namaqualand - the setting for an annual wildlife fairytale. Every year in the narrow window between the cold wet winter and scorchingly-hot, dry summer, flowers of all description bloom in carpets of colours unimaginable, insects of equal diversity pollinate and predate, and everything form meerkats to ostriches breed. This film chronicles the magical transformation of a landscape - from the fantasy of fields of flowers to the harsh realities of a desert, and back again and uses a gang of meerkats and a group of ostriches as main characters who develop during the seasonal changes.

@Ross Otto All of creation points to a marvelous Creator. You think everything came from nothing? Completely unscientific. Better study laws of entropy and conservation of energy and realize that even your beating heart pumping red blood cells through your veins to your lungs are irreducibly complex. One part could not evolve without the other already existing. Creation is evidence of the Creator.

The south-western part of South Africa (just under but including Namaqualand) is currently experiencing the worst drought in a century. Bad for us living here but a regular part of the native/fynbos life cycle. The intense conditions create wildfires, which fertilises the soil and clears the way for dormant seeds to germinate. Great drought usually precedes great rain, and so the vegetation regenerates itself.

  • @christinehorner1856

In America the plains Indians used to burn away the prairies to create the same regeneration of new growth and vitality. They managed the land for hundreds of years keeping it fertile and life giving for animals and man.

I truly hope the drought ends for you soon. I watched this and remembered that I learned in the bible how God put the seed of plants in the ground. I thought how wonderful and beautiful Namaqualand was and would be every year when the rains come. Always every year bringing the richness of food and regeneration of life in its many forms. If the drought has lasted longer than usual, I can only hope and ask God that He send you the rain at its appointed time of the year. Being a lover of goat milk, I really hope for all the people and children that the drought not be long so the sheep and goats have plenty of sweet plants to eat to make all that sweet milk. I raised them for a while myself. And life was never sweeter before or since.

Sue'82 Metal Maniac you’d have to have the ability to hold anger against someone to not be forgiving ... nature is neither forgiving nor unforgiving. It’s God who created nature in its beauty ., and the balance of things can seem harsh at times but where there’s death , there’s new life and vice verse. Part of the cycle .. everything brings forth renewal and Sustenance. Just a matter of how u wanna look at it. It is fearful man who’s tempted nature tht always finds it unforgiving ... respect for nature and it’s extremes is needed.
