Great vid. I find myself attracted to the VU meters more then the lights. I look forward to your nakamichi rx505 review. I have the rx202 and love it. The only deck I would want over the 202 is the 505. Thanks

Thanks for the comments and feedback. I am planning some other reviews and will see when I can get the rx505 into the schedule.

I've had my 680ZX since its release. Remarkable unit, and certainly Naks best single direction cassette (IMHO). Half speed was a treat for party mixes, which I did regularly back in my youth, and Nak didn't disappoint on audio quality considering the slower speed. Obviously not on par with normal speed, the frequency response was still respectable and when backed with DBX Noise Reduction, parties never sounded so good! That I am aware, the 680ZX is the ONLY cassette player with half speed, and that alone makes it stand out above the crowd.

I have the 670ZX and i love it, infact i love it more than my dragon

I use to own Tandberg 3014 deck but the 680zx was my prefered

The 680ZX is to my knowledge the one and only Compact Cassette deck ever capable running 15/16 IPS ( half speed ). This speed was not defined in the Compact Cassette Standard by Philips ( double speed does ). Philips forbid Nakamichi to produce any more cassettedeck's like the 680ZX. At half speed the audio quality of the 680ZX is very good. At this speed the MPX filter in the input circuit is in half speed mode always on, but when this MPX filter is disabled by a technician the 680ZX even record en reproduce up to 20kHz.

Hi, Great territorial on Nakamichi tape Decks, I have a DR2, Which I purchased new back in the early 80s, And back in 2020 I took it apart and replace the belts and grease the oiled, it works and sounds amazing, Have you ever had one or do you have one and what is your opinion of it. Hi there! I have not yet had a DR2, so cannot speak to it directly, but I have yet to find a Nakamichi deck that did not sound stellar!

@@philvale5724 Yes, the Dragon is also very nice. I should be getting back my 1000zxl soon from my tech that is currently giving it a complete overhaul. It is one of Nakamichi's best and you can see it in my other video where I am walking through my collection.

@@stereoniche Hi 👋, I will have a look 👀 tomorrow, I have built my own pair of transmission line loudspeaker cabinets 40 odd years ago just recently replaced the drivers in them with Seas , I found a set of plans in a hi-fi magazine dating back to the 70s, A lot of people commented on them they sound amazing but they look like Coffins ⚰️, It might be due to the fact that I had some very large brass handles on the side as they were very heavy to lift stand about 1 1/2 m in height by 300 wide and 370 deep by fire out the bottom, I listen to all types of music from heavy-metal to classical opera just recently got into Nordic Viking music not for the faint hearted, Sorry about me gambling on I live by myself in the rural part of France and I cannot speak French I have problems communicating with people. Analog meter is way cooler looking now.

I have a 580 that sounds phenomenal when it's operating properly. It's only a 2 head but it's the crystalloy superhead that makes it great. Anyway I hadn't used it in 6 months since I was listening to it when I got the call my dad had died. So last week I put animals in and for some reason the right channel sounds clean but the left is only playing the lows. Bummed out.
