Gitanjali Express has been cleared for 130 kmph between Andul and Tatanagar from 8th March 2021.
The 12859 / 12860 Gitanjali Express is a daily train running between two metro cities, Kolkata, (Howrah Junction) in West Bengal and Mumbai, (Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus) in Maharashtra connecting the East with the West. Numbered 12859/60 this train belongs to the Superfast category. This train takes 30½ hrs to cover the distance of 1968 km between Mumbai and Howrah while the return takes 31.5 hrs. This is first train which depart behind pure AC Loco from Mumbai CST after conversion of Mumbai CST to Thane from DC to AC. It has the top most priority in Howrah Mumbai route.
The 12859/12860 Gitanjali Express runs from Howrah Junction via Kharagpur Junction, Tatanagar Junction, Rourkela Junction, Bilaspur Junction, Raipur Junction, Durg, Nagpur, Wardha Junction, Badnera Junction, Akola Junction, Bhusaval Junction, Jalgaon Junction, Nasik Road, Igatpuri to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus and vice versa.
Train No.12859 Leaves source point, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus) at 6:00 am and reach its destination station Howrah Junction at 12:30 noon the next day. Train No.12860 leaves Howrah Junction at 1:40 pm and reach its destination, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus at 9:20 pm next day.

Man.... You made me nostalgic.... Used to travel by Geetanjali Express from Mumbai CST to Howrah (Kolkata is our native place) during my summer vacation in school days.... My last journey by Geetanjali was 16yrs ago way back in March 2005... Memories kept floating looking at the journey n the names of the places....

Gitanjali was my goto train from Mumbai to Nagpur until Duronto came. It is stll one of the most preferred trains because of the less time it takes. Kind off nostalgic for me. Thanks for sharing this video. Stay safe, especially from those who don't wear masks while using railway station.

Hi railfans, here is a general knowledge question on railway ops for you. Do you know what differentiates trains like Gitanjali or 18030 belonging to the S.E.Railway and trains from other zones? They are mails/expresses alright, they are SFE or non-SFE trains, but what differentiates them? Here is the answer, which is easy but it always cannot be revealed at once. The mail and express trains of SE railway which terminate at Howrah are the trains of a zone that do not either originate or terminate at a station of their home zone. Gitanjali, Howrah Mail, Coromandal Express, Chennai-Howrah Mail are those trains which are all terminating and originating from Howrah, which is a station fully belonging to the Eastern Railway. The normal (rule or) procedure of operations is that out of the two stations, i.e. the originating or terminating stations of a train, one station is almost compulsorily a station of the home zone, like Howrah Delhi Rajdhani originating at Howrah Station 2313 Rajdhani at SDAH, both of which belong to the ER, home zone of those trains while the other is NDLS. But in case of trains of SE railway originating from Howrah, neither the originating, nor the terminating station is located in the home zone i.e. SER. But yes trains of SER originating/terminating at SRC do indeed do so in their home zone. Got it? In my clear recollection and knowledge, this is not happening with trains of any other zone.

@ANIRUDH Sathyanarayanan but 6233/34 is a train under RSA visiting TPJ for SM.. There are scores of such examples. Recently erstwhile rake of NWR 2461/62 Mandore exp.JU-DLI-JU has been transferred to WR due to its RSA with WR's 2915/16 Ashram express n now has PM at ADI. 2461/62 doesn't touch WR at all. Likewise 12401/02 Magadh between NDLS-Islampur-NDLS has been transferred to SER due to its RSA with Islampur-Tata express with OM at Tatanagar

RSA or no RSA, any train of SER originating from Howrah (only)terminating in a station outside SER, DOES NOT ORIGINATE OR TERMINATE IN ITS HOME ZONE/STATION. This does not apply to a train say running between HWH-Purulia or Howrah-Haldia/Tatanagar/Rourkela, as these stations other than Howrah do fall within SER. But all other trains of SER which originate from HWH, like Coromandal, Hwh Mumbai Mail, Gitanjali, 18029/30 (dunno if this has been shifted to Shalimar) while indeed being operated by SER, do not either originate nor terminate from an SER station.
