"Nadia's Theme" is a piece of music composed by Barry De Vorzon and Perry Botkin, Jr. that serves as the theme music to the American television soap opera The Young and the Restless.
The melody, originally titled "Cotton's Dream," was composed, and lyrics were written for it, by De Vorzon and Botkin Jr. as incidental music for the 1971 theatrical film Bless the Beasts and Children. Two years later, Botkin Jr. composed a rearranged version of the music for The Young and the Restless; the show debuted on March 26, 1973. The melody was later renamed "Nadia's Theme" after the ABC television network Wide World Of Sports lent the music for a montage of Romanian gymnast Nadia Comăneci's routines during the 1976 Summer Olympics; but Nadia never performed her floor exercises using this piece of music. Instead, she used a piano arrangement of a medley of the songs "Yes Sir, That's My Baby" and "Jump in the Line."
About one month after the 1976 Olympics, the song was released as a single by A&M Records, with its B-side containing an instrumental of De Vorzon's song "Down the Line."
The recording was identical to "Cotton's Dream," with a repeat from the bridge to the end edited in to lengthen the piece. It soared up to number 8 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart by December 1976, in part because of its association with Comaneci. However, A&M Records failed to credit De Vorzon as the co-writer on the first pressings of the single; he successfully sued the record label for $241,000 USD. The single was never actually released on CD till Eric Records included it on the CD Hard-To-Find Orchestral Instrumentals.

To my dear Mother, your song. Thank you for the love and comfort you gave ❤️
Ahh.. the sweet sound of my childhood. I can see myself walking into the bedroom in the early morning as a young girl and seeing my mom laying on the couch with the television on, watching The Young and the Restless.. what a time to remember.

Aww! :( I feel for you. My Mom passed in 2022, and there are a lot of songs that make me think of her. Especially Christmas carols and hymns. But I love Nadia's Theme, and nearly drove her up the wall with it when I was growing up.

This melody is sad and lifting at the same time. Very emotional. My mother learned to speak English from watching the young and the restless in the 70's . My earliest memory was 2 years old, listening to the theme song come on channel 2 in nyc. I miss my mother beyond belief a hole in my heart 💔 where my parents should be will never be replaced. My father died in 2013 and ten months later my mother. What great memories of her love and kindness as played together and watched this soap. This music is legendary.
I couldn't stand my mother's soap operas when i was a kid.... but I always stuck around to hear this song - even when I was totally consumed with heavy metal in my teens. It's a beautiful, timeless piece of music. I don't know what made me think about it and look it up tonight... so many memories.
This is what heaven must sound like.

I still get chills thinking about hearing this while growing up in the 90s, when this and other TV shows actually had short and long closing credits. Loved hearing this play over the credits back then!
It doesn't get much better than this.

It's definitely among the top for me. It comes in with Beethoven's Pathetique Sonata, one of Schubert's Impromptu's, and Chopin's Ocean Etude.
When I was young and restless, this powerful piece of music haunted my soul whenever it was played on TV, I felt sad and desperate, it touched my heart so deep that sometimes I began to soak in tears when the first few music notes started to play, cos I didn't know who I am and where I am heading to, I only found peace of mind when I met Jesus Christ later and released my burden. Only the love of Christ could salvage my restless mind and make me know my destiny. I have no regret since then. Praise the Lord and thank you Jesus.

Not a day went by in my aunt Charity and uncle Harold's life where they weren't listening to this watching their "stories"... wow such memories of my childhood
This musical score is haunting . It brings back bitter sweet memories of my young days
This show was on one of the three channels we could pick up in the sticks of rural Nebraska. I liked it because of the music and it was actually the first song I learned to play by ear with a penny-whistle at the age of 12
this melody reminds me of my Mother,,,,,she loved this number.....
My mom watched almost all the soaps but YR was her #1. This is the only soap theme song I remember and will never forget.
Still incredible today to listen to...
Till this day I still hear this in my grandma's room, this song never gets old.

Oh I can't stop listening to it, it's so beautiful
My grandma and my mom were addicted to TYATW..you were not to bother them during their "stories"..I miss them both more than words can express
i always love it when they roll the credits so slow to see all the names full 3 mintues of all the hard working actors actress producers and much more
Wow! I could listen to this song all day and night.
Such a powerful piece, yes, something from a long lost time when we were kids. They had this as background music for a wake of a high school friend of many of us. Popular, a good guy, loved. We all did stupid things but he risked too much drinking and driving with a friend, they crashed into a cement post, his friend survived, George didn't. Terrible, tragic, just 17, I will never forget the grief at that funeral and seeing his older brother openly weeping.
When inner peace feels like this sounds to the heart. you are doing very well within your soul.
My favorite soap. I have been watching for 40+ years. Even met Jeanne Cooper 18 years ago.
I never knew my grandmothers..both died before I was born..This song makes me cry..

So I was telling him how there was a different theme song for a while and I was trying to find it on KZread so he could hear the other tune.....but I can't seem to find it anywhere! Brings back memories or watching this with my grandma when I was younger. Now she's young and restless up in Heaven.
I LOVE THIS music 🎶 Best soap opera theme music of them ALL 🤔 Perhaps THATS part of the reason it’s STILL around
This song always made me feel emotional after the beginning of 2018 because of my Papa passing away from old age. I don't know if he ever watched Y&R though. He was also a very good soldier in the U.S army. And my family loved and cared for him so much. He was very charming and funny guy and I still miss him so much... My Namo (his wife) is still trying to get over by the fact he's gone. And all the people who knew him and us will miss him in our lives. Until we meet him again someday.. R.I.P 10/27/1920 - 1/4/18

One of my mothers favorites.thanks.
Just learned this on piano, I'm so tempted to ask my friend to learn this on his violin so we can play together
This tune is exquisite. Grew up at my moms knee listening to this and always remember her loving the story of Katherine Chancellor and Jill Abbot and the feuding that ensued from their rivalry over Philip senior, then started watching on my own in the middle late 80s as the writer added Nina Webster to the mix. Miss the feud on the show between the Chancellor women, always my favorite storyline and those three talented actresses managing to keep it fresh over the decades. Since Jeanne Cooper’s passing several years ago they never took advantage of it and their history is rarely mentioned, a shame since the talented Jess Walton and the never utilized Tricia Cast (amazing!) were overlooked so that the Newman’s totally dominated the show now. Katherine’s legacy to the show should have been made eternal by an actual story and not just by bringing back the classic Chancellor sets (though I’m glad they did). Ohh well...But this song always brings the good old days roaring back to me. Love the Chancellor women... and still hopeful for the feuds return.
my grandmother used watch young and the restless when she was alive i miss her
I'm ten years old again and it's 1979 and I'm home from school with the flu and I just finished watching The Price Is Right.
