Nadezhda Obukhova sings Tchaikovsky: "None but the Lonely Heart"

"Nyet, tolko tot, kto znal... / Нет, только тот, кто знал..."
None but the lonely heart
Can know my sadness
Alone and parted
Far from joy and gladness
Heaven's boundless arch I see
Spread out above me
Oh what a distance drear to one
Who loves me
None but the lonely heart
Can know my sadness
Alone and parted far
From joy and gladness
My senses fail
A burning fire
Devours me
None but the lonely heart
Can know my sadness

Recording made ca. 1940 by a great mezzo-soprano, Nadezhda Obukhova, and repressed some 10 years later on the Soviet Russian label.
Nadezhda Andreyevna Obukhowa (Russian: Наде́жда Андре́евна Обу́хова, 1886-1961) was a Russian mezzo-soprano. She was awarded the title People’s Artist of the USSR in 1937. Pianist Heinrich Neuhaus said that "the one who even once hears her voice, will never forget it...".
Asteroid 9914 Obukhova is named for her.
This is one of the singers of the past most cherished by the author of the channel. Her interpretation of the Pyotr Tchaikovsky song seems to be perfect and unique in every way.

Yes, I decided to use a hooked-type one, because - this shining surface of early 1950 pressing revealed much hiss (similar to some HMV !), so I thought that this type of a needle may minimize that unfavourable feature, and I think it did.
