Verdasco was blasting the ball and Nadal displayed his un real court coverage abilities. The greatest counter puncher the sport has ever seen as well as the greatest competitor!

Nadal's reflexes are just unreal. If you keep pausing at 02:40, as soon as Verdasco changes his grip to hit the dropshot, he starts running forward, before Verdasco even TOUCHES the ball.

I don't think it's much the grip of the dropshot that alerted nadal; it was more the lack of a forehand backswing

Verdasco was the 1st man to break Nadal`s serve in that tournament. 2 of my favourite players that still play. 2009 AO semi between them was one of the best if not the best match in my opinion.

It was surreal. The pace with which verdasco was blasting the ball was concussive and at par with Alcaraz or thiem. He hit 100 + winners if I remember correctly. Rafa was two points from losing but just gutted it out. Insane match. Phenomenal level

@@worawatsr9803 In my memories he played really well in Ao 2019 except in Final where he got fuked up by Djokovic and seemed a bit tired, or didn't believe in his chance of victory, Djokovic played an awesome tennis though ! But Ao 2019 is still a great level from Nadal, even if i don't consider it as his second best level of tennis as the person that commented over said lol. Us Open 2013 was way better than Ao 2019 for example, and it's only an example among many other.

@@ijump-bounce2283 Yep, AO 2019 was a good tournamente, but far from the best. I would put it on top 20 anyway. AO 19 was good except the final, he played insecure and with many unforced errors, and Djokovic was unstoppable.

NLLeFa We all know that Nadal served bombs because he slightly altered his grip and motion . But the change started to bug his shoulder , so he changed to his old motion . At the us open 2010 Nadals fingers were spaced on the handle and he tossed the ball higher and launched up to hit it at its highest point at full extension. There was also a consequent further improvement in his forward weight transfer.

Lol thats nuts. Thats like saying if djokovic had his 2015 serve and 2011 return skills in this tournement he would have won. The fact that nadal couldn’t mAintain this serve for more then 7 matches is the issue.

Nice to see some highights from this tournament from Nadal. However, I found it a bit strange that you did not show how Nadal got the break back in the first set, since that was really the point of contention (and interest) in this match.

Unlike the mythical game of Australia 2009, in this instance, Verdasco did not have a good movement of his legs and was making a lot of mistakes with the backhand and to make matters worse, his backhand not being as deep and powerful, it did not generated much damage. As a result of the latter, Verdasco was forced to use a backhand slice, which created game and point opportunities for Nadal, just like in the 2008 Beijing final, against González.

Federer likes pace and is pretty succesfull against big servers. There's a chance he would get this Nadal's serve back more easily than the slices and kicks that Nadal usually gave Federer.
