NAD C399 Integrated Amplifier MDC2 | The Listening Post | TLPCHC TLPWLG

Ғылым және технология

#NAD Electronics, the highly regarded manufacturer of high-performance audio/video components, takes value and performance to a whole new level. The #C399 Hybrid Digital DAC Amplifier is the clearest expression yet of NAD’s commitment to sonic excellence and lasting value. Employing NAD’s HybridDigital nCore™ amplification, which until now has been available only on Masters Series amplifiers, the C 399 is the new flagship integrated amplifier in NAD’s Classic Series. The C 399’s digital section is built around a 32-bit/384kHz ESS Sabre DAC, the same chip used in NAD’s acclaimed M10 and M33 Masters Series amplifiers.
The C 399 also the first amplifier to incorporate the latest generation of NAD’s Modular Design Construction (#MDC2) technology: MDC2. MDC2 lets users add optional modules that provide functions such as BluOS Hi-Res multi-room music streaming, Dirac Live room correction and more.
Pure Power
Trickled down from NAD’s Masters Series, the C 399’s HybridDigital nCore amplifier is highly efficient and remarkably powerful. It can deliver 180 Watts per channel continuous power, and 250 Watts per channel instantaneous power, allowing the C 399 to produce musical transients effortlessly. The HybridDigital nCore design is renowned for its wide bandwidth, flat frequency response, clean clipping behavior with instant recovery, high current capability, and stability into demanding low-impedance speaker loads. Noise and distortion are vanishingly low under all operating conditions. The minute levels of harmonic distortion are dominated by sonically benign second and third harmonics. These refinements enable the C 399 to produce neutral, distortion-free sound even at very high listening levels, with thrilling dynamics, exquisite detail, and superb portrayal of space.
Also trickled down from the Masters Series is the ESS Sabre ES9028 high-resolution DAC, a design noted for its wide dynamic range, ultra-low noise and distortion, and near-zero levels of clock jitter. This premium DAC enables the C 399 to reproduce all of one’s digital sources with amazing musicality, a precise soundstage, and stunning clarity.
NAD MDC2 BluOS-D
First module in NAD’s second generation MDC2 Modular Design Construction future-proof architecture features Dirac Live Room Correction, BluOS High-Res Music Streaming and More
NAD Electronics, the highly regarded manufacturer of high-performance audio/video components, introduced MDC2, the second generation of their innovative Modular Design Construction platform. The all-new MDC2 architecture allows signals to be passed back and forth between module and host component. This opens a far wider range of upgrade options for the new NAD C 399 HybridDigital DAC Amplifier and future MDC2-enabled components. With the MDC2 BluOS-D module installed, listeners can enjoy the benefits of Dirac Live Room Correction, BluOS hi-res multi-room streaming and music management, and so much more. And thanks to NAD’s MDC2 platform, component investments will keep pace with future developments.

WOOPS. The MDC' slots on the new C-399 are not backwards compatible. MDC-2 cards will fit, not MDC (1).

Do you think the NAD C399 and Dynaudio would work well together? i was really looking forward to hearing this amplifier and tried the NAD C399 on some KEF ls50 meta's i didn't like the sound very much. it made the meta's sound harsh and bright. my Dynaudio emit 30's are quite laid back so i thought this combination might work well?

A lot of great things have been said about the predecessor, the C390dd, yet I have had a lot of issues with it throughout the 9 years I have owned it until it has collapsed. I don’t care about the use of master series components if it is not durable. Although on paper this device looks nice, I am hesitant to buy it as a replacement having to sink 600 euros into it for repairs for it to keep breaking. Unfortunately unboxing videos of first month reviews don’t get to test its lifespan. The stores will tell you all digital devices will be less reliable than an analogue amp, yet my old Marantz SR4600 is 8 years older and has outlived the NAD top end non-masters device with no repairs required at all.

Hi W van. The C-399 is not designed to directly replace the C390. That said, sorry to hear you had issues with the C-390dd. It was NAD's first digital hybrid amp.

I love the banana disclaimer. Reminds me when eons ago, a Audio store advertised prices in "bananas", but meant as dollars. Some guy came in with 200 bananas (the fruit) and they had to sell him the item he wanted that was priced at "200 bananas".

How would you compare it to the M10 V2? I feel like it's the closest competitor due to the similar price point once you add the BluOS module, but the C399 is way superior in terms of specs and internal build quality?
