    what i love about this movie which most people gloss over is that the Na'vi religion is undeniably real. Ewya has genuine actual influence over Pandora. From transferring Jake from human to Na'vi and summoning the native animals to fight in the final battle showing there is actual proof.

    Tbf it might not be "real" in the sense that Ewya is a literal spirit/godess. It's possible that they're just coming up with spiritual explanations for things that could be explained by science. In the first movie the humans mention how all life on pandora shares a network of neurons like one massive brain. So the entire planet is kind of a hivemind, and I think that hivemind is what the Na'vi refer to as "Ewya".

    Because, like older religious systems, the Na'vi's religion is based on visual pattern recognition. Like, sun and moon worship, or worship of animals and trees. These things gave our ancestors shelter, clothing, parts for tools. They kept fire living, and dominated landscapes. So, we worshipped them! It made sense to. Still does to an extent.

    A very big part of the planet Pandora is how all the plant life seem to carry reactive neurons, with a memory tree grove carrying more neurons than the Human brain. So... What the Na'Vi call "Eywa" is indeed real; a consciousness that has emerged from the combined neural power of all the plants, and which could have influenced the whole world's evolution to develop a lot more neural connected.

    About the Na'vi neural queue being braided, it is actually not natural! In fact, it seems that their neural queue is simply covered with skin at birth, as can be seen quickly on a newborn Na'vi of the Metkayina clan, in one of the Avatar 2 trailers. It is likely the parents who use the hair once it has grown, to cover/protect the neural queue of the children. I also wanted to point out that you can see tiny body hair on some of the characters (especially Lo'ak) on the new individual Avatar 2 posters, but it's still hard to notice. Aside from that, thanks for this very instructive video !

    The only major incongruence in Avatar is that the Na'vi are tetrapods instead of hexapods and this is explained by one article I once read regarding the concept art and the development of the 1st movie, it said that originally the Na'vi had 4 arms and 2 legs and openings in the chest instead of nostrils too I believe, but the idea was changed early, making their morphology more human because they wanted the audience to identify with the Na'vi and to make Jake's attraction to Neytiri understandable.

Of these, only the Ikran has four limbs, the other have six. And to add confusion, while the Toruk and Tetrapteron have wings-wings-legs, the Stingbat has wings-legs-wings, and the Tetrapteron has its queue sticking out of its chest. (???) Still, the Ikran is the only fully four-limbed species we've seen, other than the Na'vi.

    My understanding/guess is that most of the creatures on Pandora evolved/derived from fungi instead of from fish (like on earth). It would explain why nearly all lifeforms have the ability to neural link up to each other despite differences in species, and can link up to the tree/root mental system like mycelium networks even after death.

    I had wondered about that. I know that, from a storytelling standpoint, it made sense to make the Na'vi basically humanoid, but from a biological perspective it seems a bit too convenient that they diverged from the other animals on Pandora to converge with humans- at least from the standpoint of general body shape. This seems especially difficult to believe after learning that they have a non-DNA genetic molecule. That's a BIG difference and in some ways makes the idea that they're an example of convergent evolution with humans that much more difficult to believe. One has to wonder if they were genetically engineered to more closely resemble humans with the expectation that they would meet humans at some point. Or they're descended from humans that had their internal biology drastically changed to adapt to Pandora. I feel like that is more probable than the possibility that humans are re-engineered Na'vi because we seem to more closely resemble other species on our world than the Na'vi do on theirs.

    We see some Na'vi children, many Na'vi adults, a few Na'vi "elders" who appear middle-aged and whose own children have grown into adults. We even see a funereal ceremony with a youngish-adult-looking Na'vi "returned to Eywa" after apparently dying from natural causes (not from the war vs humans). None of the Na'vi are truly aged. None are slow, weak, crippled, sick. It appears that either they age gracefully with a long lifespan ... or that they live short lives which always end in violence.

    Tsu'tey's parents in the comics look horrid. Very aged. Neytiri's parents are also kind of old (looking like humans in their 60s). I'm slightly confused by this, because while we've seen Neytiri age from 18 to 34, and her oldest kid is now 15, her and Jake still look as young as ever, while Neytiri's and Tsu'tey's parents, like I said, look very old by comparison. I saw Avatar: The Way of Water earlier today, and there's a Na'vi clan called the Metkayina who have several differences from the Omaticaya such as having blue eyes instead of yellow, their skin being more aquamarine, thicker arms and legs with fin-like protrusions on their hands and forearms, and their tails are flat at the end like a paddle which helps with swimming. It was also established that Earth air is semi-breathable to the Na'vi and can survive it for a few hours.

Just like about how humans apparently have widespread bionics(possibility of Jake's spine being repaired mentioned as mundane, albeit costly thing) and genetical engineering(avatars are extremely costly, but simpler things like enhanced muscle or prolonged age would be mundane compared to making an artificial being). As far as agricultural progression is concerned with Human's vs the Na'vi, the Na'vi follow the three laws of Eywa that expressly forbid them from: 1) Setting stone upon stone (no building from non-renewable sources), 2) Not use a turning wheel (wheels, in general), and 3) Not use the metals of the ground (self explanitory) I know it's just a movie and James Cameron get's to make up all the rules, but imagine if we stumbled across a society like this legitimately and they followed rules similar to this. Imagine the implications, that a greater power, who had seen what developing human-like agriculture would lead to, became the deity of an unadvanced species, and told them to never advance further than necessary to preserve their world and their peace. Honestly love it.

    Convergent evolution, to me, seems inevitable. It's been pointed out how so much the Earth's material came this solar system, the rest of this galaxy, and beyond..that the basic chemistry is bound to be "common", and making it hard not to believe something out there, is going to look.."familiar". Even if only a little bit, though possibly more, even a lot. Until they come here, or go out and find them, we'll never know for sure.

  • @OrangeRiver

    @OrangeRiver

    Жыл бұрын

    It'll depend a lot on the environment, of course. Though I too expect things like eyes, forward locomotion, etc. to be common. It is worth noting that convergent evolution on Earth is still based on the same common ancestor(s), so Earth-type body plans seem to be hard-coded into our DNA in a way that alien body plans might not be. But like you said, we won't know until we know!

But the breathing holes, have almoast or every animal breath thrugh chest holes but Na'vi... felt weird to me, would be great if Na'vi human clones breathed normaly thrugh mouth, and Na'vi homespecies thrugh chest "holes". Its like 4 and 5 fingers small detail but makes sence, on earth we have 5 on pandora animals have 4 fingers, 6 limbs, chest holes, 2 pairs of eyes...

The same thing happens on Jupiter and Saturns moons, though maybe not during eclipses, the nights on moons revolving around these massive planets that reflect a lot of light would light up the entire world like a night light.
