    I just picked up my LCI N55 M2 on Labor Day weekend and I have been thoroughly impressed. First was a F30 328, then a E82 N55 DCT, now this and given the options it has, the mileage being 40K, sure the price may have been a bit inflated but I cant justify the S55 M2 unless you really want to break that 500whp threshold *still achievable by the OG M2 but it will take more to do so*. Personally, daily go with OG, more track/pleasure car go with S55. I'll be looking to go PS2 as I would like to see 500 but it really depends on fueling (don't entirely want to do PI)

    @@jonspec. for me its the exact opposite, daily go with the s55 and track go with the n55 because of running costs and costs for part to replace if they brake. i have 600whp (593 i think to be exact) and it was over all 10k of which were around 3.5k because it has to be legal in germany so i can track it on the nürburgring. the s55 is more of a daily driver with all the extra features and the extra weight they bring. if you want to buil a track tool just use the m2 og as a base and take parts from the m235i racing / m240i racing cup series cars (both n55 cars with more adjustable suspension links and good aero). the s55 is just pricier to run and thats pretty much it.

    I like the N55. Especially at $20,000 less. They are both true M cars. Sure, N55 only has a single turbo, but an M car isn’t just the engine. It’s the whole package. The tuning, suspension and the wide body is what gives it the M status. I’ve driven it and man, is it fun! It’s literally always in attack mode and really spices up your commute. And no doubt, the sound from the N55 with the M-performance exhaust is music.

    This really comes down to preference as you mentioned, I personally love my OG M2 but they are a few things I wish it had seats, better power delivery etc. but most of which can be fixed once you plan to mod it, the OG M2 was never intended for straight line speed but rather it shines in handling…Either way you can’t go wrong whether N55 or S55 it’s a great driver’s car nonetheless 👍🏾

    Sold my F80 M3 because of multiple road debris puncture on the oil cooler underneath the car about four years ago, jumped into an OG M2 , definitely feels more special for day-to-day driving, feels more raw, low end torque just feels awesome for daily driving without having to do anything crazy illegal on public roads.

    If you are in the HP numbers bros group then the S55 will be the choice. But realistically the N55 can give you plenty of usable power. Nothing to brag about but you will be super happy. These days people love talking HP numbers but where do you need all of that for? It's an Ego game rather than what makes you smile on the road.

    I’d have to disagree. I’m in a fbo e40 m240i and drove my friends og m2. Great drivers car, and I think would be amazing on track. The n55 though feels lacking in power on street, but maybe modded I wouldn’t mind it. I think if you want a track car/drivers car the n55 is fine, but if you want some power skip the n55. Not saying it’s a bad car, it’s amazing to drive but I personally just wanted more power out of it.

    As someone who shopped for M2’s in 2021 The M2c felt way more special and was what I ended up purchasing. I’m a stickler for the small details so things like the seats, gauge cluster, etc made the M2c feel more different than an M235i/M240i. The original M2 felt too much like an M240i to me and was about the same price. At the time there was only about a $10-15k price difference and the M2c would be brand new But even in todays market I would personally go M2c again

    Yes, the F80/F82 may have an S55 but an M car is much more than purely the engine. The M4 may be quick but as a drivers car, the F87 M2 OG or Comp offers so much more. Funny how everyone criticises the N55 and that it's not a pure M car, it's absurd. Yet, 1M with the N54 is widely regarded as the ultimate M car. A lot of people chase figures so they want the S55, you aren't putting down all that power and the N55 is no slouch.

    I completely understand your opinion and get where you come from. I've had n54 6 Spd and n55 dct personally along with driving the manuals as well even driving an n54 135i with a dct trans swapped to it. Now I recently picked up an m2C. If you think of the design of the current m engines they are all twin turbo cars which give it that quirky punch. The n54 perfectly resembles these newer s engines if anything I sometimes just think of the newer s engines as being the drastic improvement over the years of what the n54 wanted to be. Yes the n55 is an amazing engine having owned one too. In the end I think it doesn't come down to n54 or n55 engines and what base models it also comes with. I think just the power delivery that these twin turbo bmw engines provide is what makes the big difference having driven them. All the twin turbo bow cars I have driven make me poop my pants lol and that's what makes them so special to many people I believe. N55 no matter the power has not made me feel this way weirdly. I am not sure if this makes sense and if this is a valid opinion but its mine. It always comes down to the feeling and that's what makes all of us car enthusiasts. In the end it is always personal preference. But I honestly think too if I picked up an go m2 and saw a comp on the street I would Get a feeling in my stomach wishing I got one. This is also a daily car that I will track from time to time and out the box it is a better machine to perform with without needing much.

And the N55 with my DINAN exhaust setup just sounds WAY better that the S55, IMO. Eventually, I'll move up to the later years of M, or may move up to the Porsche GT3 if the finances warrant it, at that time!*

    Agreed, a B58 M2 would have been a monster. I split the difference and grabbed an 2019 M240i Xdrive to do a hybrid turbo, Ohlins and forged apex wheels. Shoot for an all around 10 sec daily. As soon as that’s done in the next few months, hopefully the OGM2/M2C market will come back down to reality. As much as I love that M240i, it’s still not an M2C. So Im planning to pick one up for a more track focused toy, hard to beat the factory widebody and ability to stuff 285/305 combo for track duty. Just like you, I’m lucky to be blessed enough to experience a few different things!

    I think it comes down to the individual and what your budget and how you intent to use your car. For me I bought my OG new and I was going to upgrade to a M2C. But after getting into auto cross I realized the bottle neck is myself as a driver not the car. For the gap in price between the 2 I rather get a used brz or something. Not saying it is the right decision for everyone to go down this route, if I never got into auto cross I would have upgraded for the S55 cause it is more hype.

  • @FutureGameLight
    @FutureGameLight Жыл бұрын

    i had to make that decision just a few months ago and went n55. first of sound... the n55 over all sounds better but since i live i germany its an even bigger diffference because the s55 has the extra otto particuate filter (opf) which makes it even more shitty und quiet. i got my og m2 nearly fully built in oem+ style/clubsport with just 34k km (like 20k miles i thnk)... it has the m performance exhaust, kw v3, hjs downpipe, eventuri intake, gts software for trans/diff/steering, allignment from a nürburgring race team, interior all m performance parts in dry carbon and a steering wheel like your m4 and last but not least funktional traktool rear spoiler, wing and front lip. so i got even better sound, handling (honestly it kills porsche on the backroads easily) and looks for far less money than the m2 comp. power... i ordered an upgrade turbo for around 550 to 600hp and i wont go higher since i track the car and i think all these 700, 800hp and over cars are dumb because you cant enjoy them and i think that just abve over 500hp is the sweetspot for these car. also there are some stock internal m2 with 750hp, so i really dont understand why people want more and i live in germany where i can goo full out every day on the autobahn. i also drove 700hp m4s and its fun for a few times to rush to like 340kmh/211mph but i really enjoy backroads and tracks more. and that 600hp og m2 wont be that slow also :D weight is also huge, we weight some of our cars and i have a bit of a tracktool speck, which i dig because race car and a buddy has a normal specked comp. his car weighs over 250lbs more and i havent yet gutted my interior. looks... so i was always a big fan of the comp front but when both stand side by side so far everyone says that the og looks better because its much more beefy/heavier looking on the front view. even i was suprised by that. so over all it surely its a choice which isnt easy but i honestly couldnt be happier :D if you want a drag or highway car just go with the s55 models but if you ove corners no matter where get the og m2 because you wont need 800hp for that ;)

  • @Areku06
    @Areku06 Жыл бұрын

    All the m2 OG needs is pure stage 2 turbo, you will have reliable 500hp car for only $4-5k installed. 450whp on stock hpfp and 500whp on upgrade hpfp, hpfp is what is holding it back. If you want more, there is big boost kit which is 600whp+. Pure stage 2 is the most reliable setup, uses oem housing and parts. Also sound on n55 is so much better than s55. There is pure stage 3 turbo kit coming soon for n55 as well, 800hp+. N55 can make good power with supporting mods.

I find it hard to justify the 20K jump for simply more HP and seats. My 2 cents haha, great info and insight!

    you can easily do 600hp in our og m2s so dont worry about that and its good you went with the m2 for autocross because the n55 m2 has oil circulaton and a dry sump oil pump from the s55, also pistons from the s55, better ported heads, better forged rod and crankshaft. so your car will easily handle the abuse. with the m235/240 you lack the dry sump oil pump and could easily get a major engine failure by going to autocross and many people dont even think about that (and they dont have the LSD). i would advise you to go with the gts software for the diff and trans it changes so much

    Very good perspective. I want to add 3 things you didn't mention. First, the DCT is another awesome performance feature that makes the OG M2 a true M car. It takes the performance and engagement to another level. Gives you race car or supercar vibes and so much more connected and fun than the ZF8 speed in the M light cars. Don't get me wrong, the ZF is the best traditional auto and does an amazing job, but cannot compare to the connection, performance and aggression of the DCT. I only had manual sports cars until my knees started protesting, but honestly there is no way I could shift or get the performance of that amazing DCT. Second, OG M2 sounds much better based on reviews. Third, you can exploit the full capability of the OG M2 on the street. I floored it and took it to redline repeatedly on the street and had an absolute blast exercising the best part of the car--the handling. Full disclosure, I have never driven an M2 comp, so I may be singing a different tune once I do...lol.

    I had a b58 and switched to an OG m2 (from 240i). Yes the b58 can make way more power but the car struggles to put it down unless you get an LSD and suspension mods to run anything over 450 hp. Might be less of a problem in the 340i but it’s definitely gonna struggle compared to an M. Handling, feel, personality, sound, everything is just much more visceral in the M2. And that 365 hp stock puts the power down well enough to feel the rush of 400+ in my old car. Just something to consider.

    Why do people want to mess with the m4 GTS and remove the CCB's, cage and all the other amazing bits it comes with. Those BBS wheels aint worth losing the ceramic brakes for and personally I think the cars better left for what it is. You might aswell buy a stock M4 and tune it to how you want it. Why spend all that money on a GTS when all your going to do is remove everything that makes it great.

  • @ThicWhips

    Track focus really, CCB's make no sense if you are seriously considering tracking your car. Unless of course you want to overpay for braking everytime you eat up your CCBs. They just arent logical for track guys, and quite unnecessary. A friend of mine tracks his GTS regularly, like its only a car he uses on the track and he has configured an already fantastic track car into an even better one. All of this comes down to money and preference and at the end of the day, that is what these cars were made for. Not to sit in a garage somewhere. As for the cage, I dont have an answer but the previous owner removed it long before I bought it, is what it is.

    I think he’s wrong, you can easily achieve s55 numbers with a stage 2 tune, and surpass s55 numbers by a lot with a pure stage 2 turbo upgrade, and why would anyone want over 550whp in a f87 chassis, also the s55 is not more reliable than the n55. With 8k worth of upgrades you have the perfect balanced f87 in the n55. Getting an s55 for 20k more and then tuning it for 8k more to achieve 750whp makes absolutely no sense for that chasis. Specially because it’s a rwd car. You won’t even win roll races because of the lack of traction. The M2 is a drivers car the type of car you enjoy in the canyons or track. It’s not engineered for 750whp

M3 and m4 aren’t even adequate enough to genuinely make use of such high numbers 🤦‍♂️. To make it simpler yes the s55 has more power potential, but the n55 is the perfect engine for the f87 platform and chassis. And no a stock s55 is not more powerful than a stage2 pure turbo upgraded n55. A pure turbo n55 engine can easily put down 550whp 620bhp pretty reliably

The M2 Competition is a different league, capable of more, better engine, better steering , better brakes and seats. Overall better. You pay for what you get.
