    Apparently all you need is hearing words written by men thousands of years ago about old people having a natural death and somehow coming back to life but not in the the body that could no longer live due to disease or just the body wearing out due to age. It would be great to get some evidence that an "everlasting life" after death has any place in reality apart from believing in stories written thousands of years ago.

Ecclesiates 9:5,10 - The living at least know they will die, but the dead know NOTHING. N.T. Wright this is great. I have one question. So when Jesus says to the criminal next to him today you will be with me in paradise. What does he refer to when he says paradise? Is that the resting period you are talking about?

    Yes. Read his book "Surprised by Hope". He answers that question and many more, but essentially, yes, he's talking about being with God in paradise the resting place before the ultimate resurrection of the dead and the joining of a new heaven and new earth.

    "New heaven and new earth" were symbolic terms describing the New Covenant and the temple made by God, which is the church. We're living in the time of the new heaven and new earth right now, even if many are not entering into it. Though Wright is a very eloquent and intelligent man, his partial preterism clouds his interpretation of scriptures. All things were fulfilled in Christ by 70AD. In Luke, we see Jesus predicting that the time of the end of the temple and Judaism was the time that all things written would be fulfilled, which includes all prophecy. Luke 21:22 THESE are days of vengeance, in order that all things that have been written may be fulfilled.

    I don't think N.T. Wright rejects what you said. I think he means that all of creation will be renewed upon Christ's return and the resurrection of the dead. At that time he will complete this restoration of all things (which will involve some sort of transformation of the heavens and earth as well as our bodies into spiritual ones).

    The state of the dead according to the word of God. But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof *thou shalt surely die* {Genesis 2:17} Man dieth, and wasteth away: yea, man giveth up the ghost, and where is he? ... So man lieth down, and riseth not: till the heavens be no more, they shall not awake, nor be raised out of their *sleep* O that thou wouldest hide me in the grave, that thou wouldest keep me secret, *until thy wrath be past* that thou wouldest appoint me a set time, and remember me! If a man die, shall he live again? all the days of my appointed time will I wait, 👉till my change come. ... His sons come to honour, and he knoweth it not; and they are brought low, but he perceiveth it not of them. {Job 14:10, 12-14 & 21} And though after my skin worms destroy this body, yet in my *flesh* shall I see God. {Job 19:26} Whatsoever thy hand findeth to do, do it with thy might; for there is no work, nor device, nor knowledge, nor wisdom, in the grave, whither thou goest. {The Preacher 9:10} Put not your trust in princes, nor in the son of man, in whom there is no help. His breath goeth forth, he returneth to his earth; in that very day his thoughts perish. {Psalm 146:3-4} Then said his disciples, Lord, if he *sleep* he shall do well. Howbeit Jesus spake of his death: but they thought that he had spoken of taking of rest in sleep. Then said Jesus unto them plainly, "Lazarus is dead." {John 11:12-14} ... Martha saith unto him, I know that he shall rise again in the resurrection 👉at the last day. Jesus said unto her, "I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet *shall* he live:" {John 11:24-25} But go thou thy way till the end be: for *thou shalt rest* and stand in thy lot *at the end of the days* {Daniel 12:13} For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him *should not perish* but have everlasting life. {John 3:16} And *the serpent said* unto the woman, *Ye shall not surely die* {Genesis 3:4} Thou art the anointed cherub that covereth; and I have set thee so: thou wast upon the holy mountain of God; thou hast walked up and down *in the midst of the stones of fire* {Isaiah 28:14} ^ (satan always turns the tables on God, for he is the father of lies.) The sinners in Zion are afraid; fearfulness hath surprised the hypocrites. Who among us shall dwell with the devouring fire? who among us shall dwell with everlasting burnings? He that walketh righteously, and speaketh uprightly; he that despiseth the gain of oppressions, that shaketh his hands from holding of bribes, that stoppeth his ears from hearing of blood, and shutteth his eyes from seeing evil; {Isaiah 33:14-15} If anyone errors in their understanding of this doctrine of the dead, then they will in no way be led to the understanding of the truth, for it will be a stumblingblock unto the decernment of spiritual things, including soilterology and eschatology.

    And turning the cities of Sodom and Gomorrha *into ashes* condemned them with an overthrow, making them *an ensample* unto those that after should live ungodly; {2 Peter 2:6} Even as Sodom and Gomorrha, and the cities about them in like manner, giving themselves over to fornication, and going after strange flesh, are *set forth for an example* suffering the vengeance of *eternal fire* {Jude 1:7} (Sodom is not still burning, so it is not the fire / punishment that is eternal, but rather the consequences thereof.) And ye [the saints] shall tread down the wicked; for *they shall be ashes under the soles of your feet* in the day that I shall do this, saith the LORD of hosts. {Malachi 4:3} Thou [satan] hast defiled thy sanctuaries by the multitude of thine iniquities, by the iniquity of thy traffick; therefore will I bring forth a fire from the midst of thee, it shall devour thee, and *I will bring thee to ashes upon the earth* in the sight of all them that behold thee. {Ezekiel 28:18} Blessed and holy is he that hath part in the first resurrection: on such *the second death* hath no power, but they shall be priests of God and of Christ, and shall reign with him a thousand years. {Revelation 20:6} And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. *This is the second death* And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire. {Revelation 20:14-15} What do you imagine against the LORD? He will make an utter end: affliction shall not rise up the second time. {Nahum 1:9}

In his death He had to show both them and us , that God would raise him (Christ ),and what God did for him God would also apply to ourselves. So both in his life and in his death Christ was showing that God has the ability to render death has NOT being the final destination of human beings. Therefore attributing the new heavens and new earth to God .

    10:45 He uses someone else's analogy of God downloading our software until he give us new hardware in which to reinstall our software. That's an excellent comparison, EXCEPT that it's more accurate to say God UPLOADS our software to the Cloud after our hardware (body) crashes & then DOWNLOADS it again into the new hardware (a new body) when God makes everything new. People often say, "download," when they mean, "upload." I actually find this annoying because it takes only a few seconds of thought to recognize that physical clouds are UP relative to us & our devices. Even in non-tech, less abstract terms, it's like putting something up on a shelf and taking it down again when you need it. Yet, even some people who do a lot of file sharing reverse the terms. Just remember: UPLOAD to the cloud/Store it up on a shelf & DOWNLOAD to some device (body)/Take it down from the shelf & use it. If I take nothing else from this very informative lecture, in that analogy alone, I have an outstanding way to make bodily resurrection & the TEMPORARY nature of the storage of our consciousness in Heaven understandable to people. I really appreciate that b/c I've long believed that the Bible teaches a new Creation,- a new Earth full of living things, free of sin, & resurrected, "glorified" bodies, that the righteous will reign on Earth with Christ according to our faithfulness in managing & stewarding what he has given us here now, and the "New Jerusalem", coming DOWN from God out of Heaven."

    A very articulate preacher but he does not explain why it would be necessary to raise our bodies if our spirit is already in heaven. Why would this be necessary? Surely if I am blissfully happy with Jesus in heaven in my spirit state, then why would I want to come back to earth and be put in the grave where my decayed body lies to be resurrected to meet Jesus in the air, when I was already with him before I went back into my body. The immortality of the soul is not biblical. Only God has immortality and we only receive immortality at the resurrection. He has interpreted the words of Paul as if Paul believed that when he died he would go straight to God. That is not what Paul stated. He said he would rather be dead and with God but the interpretation means that when he died he knew he would sleep and the next moment of his awakening he would be with God - not matter how long he had been asleep, at his awakening, he would be with God. We know this because the angel Gabriel said to Daniel that he must rest and wait to be resurrected with those who had gone before him. Lazarus died but when he came from the grave he did not say anything about where he was. Had he been with God I am sure there would have been much writing about what he experienced, but the Bible is silent on this because Lazarus was asleep/dead for 4 days and Jesus resurrected him.

    Great question. God the Father raising our bodies is not an act of necessity but of grace and love. He gives us new, incorruptible bodies like the one Jesus Christ has after His resurrection and before His ascension. As you correctly state, we will be in spirit form in Heaven. In His time, our Father gives us these new bodies. Then, we may chose to be in spirit or in physical form as we wish whenever we wish.

    Shaun Tighe "Mr. Samurai, I would like to know about the data you used to come to that conclusion." Look at the world around you.. Now ask yourself, would a loving, caring creator, allow the world we see today? The answer is no, and therefor, I conclude god is a myth, that humans created. End of story.

    🤣 ALL organized religions are man-made. Just man's attempt to answer all "those" questions that he has a need to know.

    Wright prattles philosphical claptrap that is so boring to listen to. His opening statement omits the fact that Martha the sister of Lazarus knew perfectly well that on Judgment Day Lazarus would be raised from the dead.
