    This is one of the most important and most overlooked scenes in the film. It's true. Both Jimmy and Sean are fairly normal people leading fairly normal lives because they didn't get in the car. Dave on the other hand got in the car and while he is trying to lead a normal life, something in him changed forever and he's forever just a shell of a normal human being.

    The idea of these two guys remaining unaffected was reinforced numerous times throughout the movie, and it was made very plain. It was done more effectively near the end. So really, this scene is not important. It is the opposite. It is superfluous.

    Michael Keaton Was originally casted as Sean. No offense to Kevin but Micheal woulda owned that role .. Keaton got into argument with Clint which is why Kevin was cast

    WHY would you wanna replace BY FAR the best actor in this entire movie in Bacon when you can replace others with Keaton, bud??? I love Keaton however Bacon gave such an incredible performance. If there's ANY cast member, that you should replace, it's EASILY Penn and he should have been replaced by Mickey Rourke. Penn was hamming up, overacting the hell off of his scenes and made every scene of his just dishonest and forced, which if performed by a great actor could have been heartbreaking.

    I love this movie and this scene so much! Nothing couls ruin it. The literal only fault i can find with this movie is the bad ADR that sticks out like a sore thumb at 38 seconds in this video. And in my opinion its a masterpiece.

    If we focus on the context of the dialogue, the rule break fits perfectly in there. They talk about Hitlers mum doing a complete 180 on her decision to abort Hitler. The camera language communicates this switch instantaneously to mirror the chaos/disorder created by keeping him alive, yet it draws parallels into their world by purposefully and uncomfortably breaking the 180 rule knowing if one of them had gone into that car, their life path would've completely flipped in a different direction.

    The part when Jimmy said, if I would've gotten in that car. I would've been a basket case. I wouldn't have had the juice to go near Maria, my first wife. Katie wouldn't have been born and she wouldn't have been murdered. That is a weird thing to say about your own kid. Especially right after you just found out, they were murdered. If that car didn't show up on their street, that would've made a big difference in Dave's life.

    Did Sean Penn truly deserve the Oscar over Bill Murray for Lost in Translation ?

  • @vinista256

    @vinista256

    Yes. Bill Murray was the playing himself, and the role didn’t require that much emotional range. Also, I think he was miscast. Yes, I know Sofia Coppola wrote the role with him in mind, but “Groundhog Day” Bill Murray was what she had in mind, and he was already 10 years past that, which made his pairing with ScarJo gross, even if nothing “happened”.
