Mystery Lodge presented at Knotts Berry Farm

Музыка

“Cross over the rushing waters of mystical Thunder Falls to experience the inexplicable magic of award-winning Mystery Lodge. The special effects-laden experience offers a heartwarming encounter with the Old Storyteller, who leads guests on an unforgettable journey deep into the Native North American West.” Mystery Lodge is the descendant of Spirit Lodge, a BRC-produced attraction that was a hit at Expo ’86 in Vancouver, B.C. Holavision® is a proprietary BRC Imagination Arts. The show opened at Knotts berry farm in 1994 and continues to play to this day. However as of June 2019 it is closed indefinitely for refurbishment. Rumor has it it’s closed permanently but the park still lists it as under refurb. Whatever happens to this beloved show I hope this will bring back some of the magic for you all.

It was either the year 1988 or 1989 I remember the old man looking a little different but definitely yes the story and the hologram very beautifully done very well made and I agree it should be back and I definitely agree it's a one beautiful thing that should stay forever. I remember the elder Indian man appearing out of the nowhere but not coming out of the dark back (I could be mistaken but I think this could have been real done to be a real person) I remember the cane stick lifting up from the middle of the floor as his laugh was coming in and then he appeared like as a spirit and the hologram was a little denser and then he had disappeared in the stick at the end felt just like that but again just a little bit different I wish they would make it just like the original

@@Sean_from_the_heights Pepper's Ghost effect is used since 19th century in theatres, and since about 1950, in theme parks. Whether it's called "Holavision" (a 'BRC Imagination Arts' tradename) or just applied from scratch (no patent resides on it), is not of much importance. Fact is that in the execution of a Pepper's Ghost effect, a wide range of quality differences exist, both technically and contentwise ! The classic version is the appearance of a physical set/actor as the ghost, the newer (but by far not always better) version, is making use of projection on the transparent screen. I've seen from the exquisite best (totally convincing "appearance" out of thin air, sharp and crisp...) to the riduculous worst crap (reflecting whatever other stuff and lightspots around while not even showing the 'ghost' clearly recognisible). The crap examples bring a bad name to the effect, making people think about it as "cheap fun fair amusement". It's a pity. I try to understand however, why you say "along with the illusion live is incredible no one else uses it" ? Indeed, in Mystery Lodge it's the theatrical variant which was the 19th century origin of the effect. upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/4/4c/Peppers_Ghost.jpg/1200px-Peppers_Ghost.jpg However, Here: life actor on stage, projected ghost. In 19th century's origin : life actor on stage, life actor under the stage. In most theme park applications, we see either 'life setup' (like an animatronic instead of life actor) on stage, combined with either 'life setup' under or aside from stage, OR 'projection'. (Makes 4 different options in total) Apart from Disney, some of the best examples (dozens !!) can be found in Efteling theme park, with both full scene, or detail scene arrangements, and both making use of 'life setups' and 'projections'. One of those is just as convincing as in Mystery Lodge, it's the fairy tale animatronic show "The little match girl" , where the ghostly appearances are projection, so convincing you see the dieing girl (animatronic) becoming a white ghost and joining her grandmother ghost to raise to heaven above the roofs of the city. (It's the only theme park attraction I know, where visitors sometimes cry) CHEERS

Yeah it had a long run when it opened in 1994. It’s still up in limbo to determine the future of it the stage and theatre is still intact but the technology has been a problem to fix/replace. I can imagine how well it received considering it was the last production to be built for the Knott’s family. The fact it ran so long was more than just the illusions they displayed but it was the story that was timeless.

Most people don’t expect that when they step into this show. When the original show was from 86 world expo it was a a different story with the title called “Spirit Lodge.” When they were bringing it to the parks not only did the rename the show but they decided to redo the story where they know it would be timeless with the meaning you get from it. So from 1994-2018(possibly reopening) the story kept people connected. With it’s one of kind magic of stage illusion it really brought people to come back again and again. The one line that always gets me thinking is “like raven time is a trickster first you have it and then it’s gone.”
