I'd enjoy it if youtube started recommending me more channels like yours instead of the useless stuff I get. Hard to find people like you who really have the passion and actual knowledge and are willing to share it. Even though I work as a programmer for years now, I still find myself asking the simplest questions and feeling dumbfounded about trivial stuff often. Channels like yours are a treat.

This was a surprising revelation that the serial number on SSD drives can be listed in reveres on both Windows and Linux unless you know the secret. :) Thanks for sharing.

Would love more info on why the first drive is classified as a scuzzy. We're these all viewed through a write blocker? Could the weird numbers be from the m.2 to USB enclosure?

great questions! Stay tuned, I'm doing more testing and will let you know what I find out. The SSDs in this video were not connected via write blockers but either directly to the exam workstation or else via a M.2 enclosure which plugs into the USB port.

just tested again with the M.2 enclosure and a different NVMe SSD. Linux is able to identify the right serial number with hdparm and smartctl. Windows alone fails in all attempts but WiebeTech WriteBlocking Validation Utility does report the right serial number. My conclusion is that Windows is only seeing the serial number of the enclosure and NOT the SSD.

Good video. :) To be quite honest though BlueMonkey, I tried Linux for the first time last year on November, and I actually liked and disliked it at the same time. While I did overall enjoy the positive aspects, I sadly cannot access my external, Samsung PSSD T7 drive, (in other words, view the files I've stored inside) since its incompatible with Linux and there is no Linux version for VideoProc yet. Basically the Samsung PSSD T7 fails to be detected on Linux.

Love the name, THG! To be honest with you, I also love and hate Linux at times. What distro are you using to read the T7? As you can see in this video, i was able to see and use my T7 using CAINE 12. Did you use lsblk or lsusb to see whether your linux distro sees the hardware?

@@BlueMonkey4n6 I basically went from Windows to Ubuntu Budgie, and then went from Ubuntu Budgie to POP! OS. I guess I'll have to try again but on a different computer. But, I would rather prefer until the conditions are met, like VideoProc getting released for Linux, and as well as wait until the time comes for a portable SSD to be created to fit all Linux platforms (e.g. Samsung Portable SSD T8).

@@toxicholygrenadethg9906 unfortunately I'm not familiar with Budgie or POP so cant help you more on that. I will see about downloading them and trying it out and will let you know what I find out. I would not hold my breath waiting for VideoProc to get a Linux version but there are plenty of Linux based tools that can do Audio/Video conversion. ffmpeg is a fantastic tool but you'll need to know command line. Good luck to whatever you decide to do!

@@BlueMonkey4n6 To be bonest, I did email the VideoProc team and they agreed that they will try to achieve this in the future. You are free to notify me on what I should be doing in terms of trying to access portable SSDs with Linux.

the first thing I would try is to run the lsusb and lsblk commands on your system to see if your distro even sees the SSD hardware. Let me know what you see and we can go from there.

Depends on what you are trying to do. I dont think you can change the serial number of the SSD itself but you can change what your Windows box thinks is the serial number.
