Depends on the “mouth guard” and it depends on what your goals for “straight” are. Most predictable way to straighten your teeth, generally, is through your local orthodontist. Good luck! -drRP

Good question! Anything that is not contoured well to your teeth is unlikely to provide the same quality of retention as the traditional retainers. Be sure to review with your provider. Good luck! --drRP

Thank you for sharing! I am familiar with Dr's. Mew, both in fact. I have read at least a couple of Dr. John Mew's, arguably the true founder of "orthotropics" and "mewing", published articles and I think there are things we would agree upon for sure! I applaud his efforts to advance the orthodontic profession in the earlier days. Unfortunately, I personally feel the public has been misled, as part of the mewing and orthotropic campaign, to believe that orthodontics has no place in the world of addressing malocclusion and manipulation of facial bones for better occlusal and skeletal harmony. I think this is a huge disservice. Many people will seek the best results by pursuing treatment modalities that have not been backed by peer reviewed, repeatable, and well-designed research and find that they still need to pay money for traditional orthodontic treatment. Perhaps with his new online fame/maybe fortune??, Dr. Mike Mew will seek out institutions, journals that will point him to a group that will put together research to credit or discredit his methods. Again, it's not even that all his methods are outside of the traditional orthodontist approach to treatment. I personally believe that orthodontists would love to jump on the bandwagon of starting treatment/training of children at age 3 years old, continuing that treatment throughout adolescents, maybe beyond, and then charging thousands of dollars more than we do with traditional braces...plus we don't have to use all the traditional orthodontic appliances, if that's what was the most predictable option...wahoo! I don't claim to know everything there is out there related to malocclusion, treatment, etc, but years of training, education, and practice has to be worth something! Good luck! --drRP
