I'm pretty sure that the ECUs of that car would have IMMO data as well, so them working in the car kinda tells me that the 'nice guy' who gave you a 'good price' was the guy who stole them. 😅

Having been a dealer and gone to many auctions, it really got old how much corruption existed at places like Copart and Manheim. Shady dealers that would sabotage vehicles, mess with them, unplug sensors, cut wires to try and get them for less. Or the auctioneers who would fake ¨bids¨ to run the prices up. It really got old and make it difficult to get clean cars or make a profit. Plus all the ridiculous fees that were associated with the auctions, it became a rat race.

Buyer's premium, sellers premium, holding charge, movement charge, paperwork filing fees, stocking fee, loading fee and the one you don't know about until you see the bill seems to be another 50% on top of your bid.

Parts stolen at Copart? I’m shocked, shocked, shocked! You see all the time where easy to steal but expensive parts are missing off cars. ECUs, Body computers, badges, etc just disappear like magic.

Came here to say this! Once the battery goes dead once the ECU thinks it's still dead until you "reset" it and tell it the battery is good to go again. Not sure why the McLaren battery worked... Maybe it's the opposite, where the car is looking for a certain voltage (from the ECU telling it) but because the battery is a bit lower now it doesn't match and the ECU is mad? Who knows... SO much tech and programming on modern cars!

I think the original owner is still up to dodgy dealings & trying to recover as much money as possible. Says he only took the tuner off, yet the aftermarket intake pipe was loose & damaged

Put the key on the column and foot on the break, hold the start button for 5 seconds, release it then start the car the key should relearn for the locks

The safety switch of battery can be bypassed by installed a jumper. i did couple M4 before like such situation.

It would be an employee for sure, they don't just let people walk round the yard to steal stuff. I don't understand why people steal from where they work, if you are caught you will be fired, then the only job you will get after that is on the garbage trucks if your lucky.

I had the exact same issue with my x5 fob. BMW uses a specific brand of battery in their fobs. A tech told me that one of the terminals is slightly wider than most batteries on the market. Can't remember what brand it was! Think it was German maybe Varta

I think it is often the staff. They had to come and collect a car from me once and give me a full refund because their staff had stolen parts worth more than the value of the car

Youll need something like ista to reset the battery counter or whatever its called within the ecu. Its the same battery but if you charge it, its like a new battery. The previous gen was like that. Worth a shot.

Had this with a Porsche cayenne hybrid I rebuilt damaged and the lithium battery was dead after accident stripped it down and it had a bms (battery management system) inside like the box on your bmw battery had to buy a tool to plug into the bms and reset it before it would switch the battery on bmw might have same set up worth a look as I was quoted nearly £2,500 pounds in uk for new battery after reset battery was good as new . Keep up the good work 👍

Dear Ben, It’s very understandable that the BMW M4 is kind of a pain in the ass regarding to rebuild this car because you meet problems after problems. At the other hand it’s really clever you got the engine running. Adding how far you already have reached the level of rebuilding and knowing your skills to fix almost any damaged car I’m positive you’ll succeed with this one as well. BMW‘s got key fob relearn for seizures that you can do with the buttons controls inside the car a lot of times when you change the battery on the key or the battery is out of the car for a long period of time the key fob lose communication with the car but there’s a key fob learning procedure that you do on the car That is reattaches the key fob to the car and that all the buttons work……👍👍 a few times with my BMW

Weird, this is not your first BMW you have worked on. You know they are very particular vehicles. OEM parts and batteries. Solid vehicles, fun to drive. Not like you to complain some much. Have a better day Ben, your positivity is infectious, never change that.
