@@papayathecat it could be because she's in a house with multiple cats. I don't know how many litter boxes you have, but you should have at least one for each of them and they have to be in all different areas. They feel very unsafe when they're going to the bathroom, so she might have been going on the bed to Mark her territory, or go somewhere where she felt safe. You can get these plug-ins too, that'll help calm your cats if they're in a house with multiple cats. It honestly made such a big difference when I've had fosters. Hope this helps ❤ I honestly would have tried these first before going back to the vet. Since it doesn't seem like it is something physically wrong with her, she's probably just stressed out. 😢 For future reference when it comes to your cats, you should try to contact a rescuer and ask what you should do. I have a lot of experience with cats, and the first thing I would have done was tell you the above things, and not recommended going to the vet. Especially if there was another symptomatic behavior.

Animal behaviorist here! If medical issues are ruled out and the vet says it's anxiety or something of that nature try ruling more things out to find the cause. It could be her being picky about a dirty litter box, not enough litter boxes, not enough scent soakers, and you could try things like calming collars or feliway plugs

I agree totally. Could be the litter box, could be the she needs her smell to feel fine. I gave my cat an old towel that I don't ever wash and she is ok now. Later, we had an issue with the litter box, and she told us her needs by peeing and pooping elsewhere ... but not in the bed.

We had this problem when one of our cats was angry about another cat. They pee on your favourite spot because they want you to know they’re upset. Lucky for me it was my husband’s cat so she peed on his side of the bed. My daughter’s cat also recently peed on her bed in front of her. Her sister just got a new kitten and the kitten kept jumping on the older cat. We monitor them now and are teaching the young one not to torture the older cats. Also, invest in waterproof coverings because getting rid of cat pee smell is very difficult. Even if you can’t smell it, they can and will repeat when upset.

@naturewandererZ I lost my Mum not long ago and brought her kitties to my house but have kept them seperate fron my other kitties in the back bedroom and parlor and at least one of them has peed on the bed a few times >.< I got a waterproof cover to put over the blankets and everything after it happened the first time and I think its a combo of anxiety and wanting to mark the space as theirs because they can see/smell my cats through the screen door we have separating them. We want them to be able to share the house with the rest of the kitties but they are senior kitties and we have a group of 1 year olds that are super active and curious about them. Do you have any advice? We've tried introducing them and one of my Mums kitties panics and hisses and hides and the other will just stay in bed but give them them warning if they come near. Would it be best to introduce the younger kitties one at a time? :/

I feel your pain. My cat was having litter box issues and I took him to the vet. Bloodwork, urine analysis, images and a visit to a specialist later, we finally found out what was wrong with him. Turns out the little beast wasn't drinking enough water, so peeing hurt and he was trying new places to see if it wouldn't hurt going there. I have THREE water fountains around the place and a couple of water bowls that are cleaned and refilled daily available to him 24/7. I fixed the issue adding water to his regular food. He won't drink water, but will lap up a cat food soup like it's ambrosia. No more litter box accidents.

If a cat suddenly changes urination/défécation/marking spraying even if fixed etc definitely check health issues but cats are sensitive about litter boxes and each cat should have their own litter box. Some even suggest additional boxes in the room it is happening. Cats can develop sensitivity to litter types or box shape or if they are declawed have increased sensitivity to liter that hurts feet. Cats do not do things cause they are mad but trying to communicate anxiety or stress. They can even smell a neighborhood cat in the background (even if they are indoor cats)that you aren’t even aware of and get nervous. Jackson galaxy does awesome videos on this topic. As I had a cat do this years apart for different reasons🤗

My female cat started doing that when we brought 2 new kittens into the house. She didn’t like the fact that they would run around her feet and play bite so she wouldn’t get off my bed. Not to pee, not to poop, not to do anything. So now she gets locked out of the bedroom and I carry her to the litter box 4 times a day and make her use it b4 she walks away. She’s allowed to sleep with me at night, after using the litter box, but then the door gets closed and she’s not allowed in there. That’s the only way I can stop her. If I leave the door open she will jump on the bed and pee. Every single time.

Is she unhappy about something? - make sure she's not getting bullied in some ways

We have never had a problem with alternative litters (whole life experience with hundreds of cats and vet school degree) but you have to present it to the cat slowly if she doesn't like it. Some cats would prefer clumping teksture (like from cats best and similar) over the plain pellet, but our cats just get used to whatever they get. The best litter as we know for now is from the wood ( if it's kiln dried!) and the walnut is good but rare. Regular litter, if it is made from clay, is not good for their health in the long run. Banana and other kitties with the same problem, if it's not health issues, most likely just need an extra liter box, or two.. When that happens to male cats, go straight to the vet without thinking, it could be life threatening.

My kitten was doing the same. My solution was to clean the litter box two times a day to make sure it’s squeaky clean and have a total of 4 litter boxes at home 😭. I have two kittens too and they are brothers so it was kinda shocking to me when she started peeing on the bed, I think it was mostly stress and territorial issues with her brother. I also noticed that when she tried to pee then her brother would interrupt and she would end up holding it and peeing on the bed so I had to take her to the litter box at the times she would usually pee and then give her a treat if she peed. I hope Banana stops doing this after you make her more comfortable.

I consulted two vets but neither gave a certain explanation, So I throw thick plastic sheet all over the bed, plus she has this "alarm before the accident" kind of a thing, she meows right before peeing on bed, so I put her in her litter box. My advice is not to be angry with her, try to find her alarm behaviour to save the day, and don't wash the bed sheets with the detergent you wash her toilet with. Love you Bannana❤.

The encasement is also 10000x easier to clean than the mattress, literally just chuck it in the washing machine. You should also look into pet insurance. Ask your vet which ones they work with, that can save you a ton of money.

He even peed on me right after I showered and washed my hair and blew dried my hair. Took him to the vet the Dr said the same day that it's behavioral. But days on end he peed outside the box so I 'invested' on a lot of pee pads and lined my whole room and bed with it. Later he was actually diagnosed with lump in his intestine and then there was a lump in his bladder. So he couldn't pee at times then he would pee blood. He lived up to 20 yrs. When my cat was about 10 months old, he threw up a whole lot of watery puke in 4 puking incidents over the course of 10 minutes. I freaked out and rushed him to the vet. They played with him for 5 minutes, said he looked perfectly healthy and hydrated, and asked me to monitor him at home for more puking (which didn't happen). The bill I was slapped with was $117. That same orange boy (he turned 2 last month) into the sewing kit I leave on a shelf he had never accessed before and ate a threaded needle two weeks ago. I had to rush him to the ER and he had emergency GI surgery to remove the needle, which the x-ray showed was in his intestines putting him at risk for sepsis due to perforation. Thankfully there was no perforation and his recovery has been extremely smooth. The ER bill was $7,800 after insurance. His very floofy belly is shaved but he is otherwise back to his antics. He may be a little mischievous at times but he is also the sweetest, gentlest, most non-aggressive cat in the world, just like his 3 year old sister, and I feel so, so blessed to have them both.

Sometimes cats can be very picky about litter too. They don’t like stuff that is scented, as it smells a lot stronger to them. You can try changing around litter levels too (a little less, a little more) to find their preference. Keeping it clean will obviously help, but also make sure where she peed before if fully cleaned. If they pee in the same spot outside the box, it could be due to their pee smell, and even if you can’t smell it, they might be able to! Might need to toss those sheets

I will assume you scoop the box once or twice a day and that you empty the box and wash it and rinse, rinse, rinse very well once every two weeks. Do not use vinegar anywhere. That attracts them to pee there. It could be that your other cat makes her feel afraid to use that box. It could be the litter. It could be that you need to add another litterbox, that one with a cover to make her feel safe.

Yup, had this problem with my 8 month old kitten! We just moved into a new apartment a month ago and she started pooping and peeing behind our TV console 🙃 Turns out, the little lady just needed another litter box in the home. We have two cats so we bought a third litter box and put it right next to the TV, and it has solved her problem! We think the one we had in the hallway was either too far away and she was lazy, she didn’t like it because it smelled too much like her brother, or she wanted more privacy and liked going behind the TV because of that. I got her a box with a cover and I think she’s happy! Also, my cat’s name is Banana, too!!! So cute c:

My cat did this after a long vacation of mine. She is 4 and had never done it before. After 5 hours and $800 to the emergency vet, it was determined she had stress induced cystitis. Something cats get. They act like they have an infection, but no bacteria is there. She got pain medications to calm her bladder irritation, and I stayed home for 4 days. No problems since. I do change the litter box twice daily, and I added one more since I have 2 cats. If you only have 1 box, but 2 cats, add another box and change it twice a day. Also make sure you have plenty of water available that is fresh. Good luck.

It could be Simple as the litter you are using. I had a kitty that peed outside of box. I changed litters problem solved.I believe it was unscented. Some of these litters are way to strong. Also cats are very clean make sure you are scooping regularly. Good luck she is absolutely adorable.❤❤❤

We chalked up my cat’s litter box issues to behavioral issues until x-rays revealed a physical problem. So don’t jump to conclusions until your vet uses all the tests/specialists they think necessary. (Then watch every “My Cat From Hell” episode.) Good on you for being so caring. All the best.❤

There is a specific cleaning / washing detergent for cats urine. If you don't use it, cats can still smell the urine after regular washing and might need to think it has to "mark over" this spot again.

Have you used petpee enzyme remover on the spot? Even if you clean the spot with vinegar and baking soda, they will still be able to smell the enzymes, and the enzymes basically say "this is a spot to use the bathroom". Also, if you didn't have a mattress protector and it got soaked in... just get a new mattress, because that smell is now permanently deep in there.

This happened to us. Woke up and found the bed wet. Then we realized it was not pee, it was drool. She had an intestinal blockage from eating something she shouldn't, which made her drool constantly. One surgery later, she was fine, but be careful with what you leave out around your cats.

Instead of the vet being the first response, always take a moment to do a little free research. It will give you some useful information, and perhaps make kitty way happier, as a starting point. I recommend the Jackson Galaxy video on this. So, for those wondering…1) Each cat should have a litter box, otherwise, if one cat is in the box…what is the other cat supposed to do? 2) Not only that, you could have a territorial issue and one cat may occasionally prevent the other cat from using a litter box they’ve claimed as their own. 3) For this reason, you may even need to move the boxes away from each other, because just being close by may still leave one cat feeling threatened. 4) Clean each box as often as possible and make sure there’s sufficient litter in the box. We clean ours twice a day, sometimes more. Because of this, it takes about 30 seconds to scoop out the 1 or 2 messes. 5) Try new litter options. Kitty may not like your current choice. 6) Anyone that says “don’t use a cover for the litter box has never had a cat that pees against the side of the box. Our bangle would literally pee with her booty facing out, instead of down, so we had cleaning wipes and had to constantly clean the sides of the box. If we didn’t have a lid, she’d just be free peeing like a fire hydrant. Our current cat rarely pees that high, but cat’s don’t want their entire space around the box smelling nasty.

Our cat did the same when we first got him, peed on the bed 3 times during the night 😭 after a vet check up they suggested adding additional litter tray upstairs close to our bedroom, as we only had one downstairs... The vet said that bearing in mind their size, if the cats do not have litter tray close to them, it is an equivalent of us going toilet several houses down the street. Never had the same problem again

My cats are very good about using the box, but I have to remember to "deep clean" the boxes every 1-2 months. That means completely throwing out all the litter and wiping/safe spraying the box, not just scooping the poop. If I don't do this in time, my cats (or at least one in particular) will then poop outside the box. Peeing is a lot rarer, and she'll usually find spare clothes lying around if she is REALLY mad (but again, the peeing outside is super rare). The clearest sign I see is if I've literally just scooped both the boxes clean...and then there's poop right outside one of them 5 min later. I call it them "putting in a complaint with the manager." Cats can't speak, but they will try to let you know something is wrong. I even get a new box every 1-2 years. A deep cleaned litter box has always fixed this for me. Cats can only stand the smell build up for so long. I can add a bit of fresh litter each time to push the "deep clean" date, but eventually it won't be enough for them.

If she peed while you were away then separation anxiety indeed. If she did it while you're there, she may not like where youplaced the litter tray and you may need to move it. Cats do their business to also mark terrirtory,so make sure it is near a wall in a room that the cat goes into a lot, like the sitting room, hallways or bedroom. You should always have 1 litter tray per cat + 1: so if 1 cat, 2 litter trays, 2 cats, 3 litter trays, etc. It's also very important to NOT use scented litter and litterboxes with covers. Cats don't naturally go potty in small places with no escape, so it's against their nature and it stresses them out. She may also not like the cat litter itself and changing it might help. It's a matter of ruling out each one. Make one change and see if things get better. If not, go to the next change, etc. Hope this helps! 💖

Hey I’ve heard that some cats DONT like sharing litter box. So they won’t use it if another cat is using it too. They want their own litter box and some are very picky about making sure it’s clean before they use it again. Even if it’s dirty from their own stuff, they still want it clean. I remember this from my friends cats. Hope this helps Have a blessed day 😀😀

My cat also had this issue and it was all behavior related. She didn’t like the litterbox I was using. Also, she would usually do it after I got sick for a long period. Cough, covid, cough. I think because she was anxious being kept away from me. I ended up getting special bed protector sheets and I’m just extra wary of her getting stressed. Cause girl loooooves to pee on me when she’s scared and it’s just awful but also kinda sweet that she feels safe with me but also dammit don’t pee on me!
