I hate change now because they've made everything so complicated. If you manage to get someone on the phone the chances you'll be able to understand them is zero. Couple that with ALWAYS having to download an app, create an account, keep a list of passwords. I despise the modern world. Companies don't care at all about their customers and they don't even hide it!

"Why fix it if it is not broken," is a great standard for many things in life. However, most of my progress has been made when I forced myself out of my comfortable rut and took life by the horns and shook it hard. Some things need to change. Other routines and objects are gold, just the way they are.

Thank God you said it 😅 I am like you, I don’t like going through all the hustle of changing my services, even though my frugal friend keeps saying I should do it because I over pay. However, I know I am saving lots of money in other places like cooking at home from scratch, not buying new clothes all the time but taking care of the ones I have and even sawing my own, reusing plastic bags, aluminium, growing my own herbal garden, not having monthly subscriptions on anything, etc.

Hi from North Carolina, It's hot hot hot here! I will change if the service is poor, but if I like a service and it is a bit more I will stick with it. Not chasing a few $$$. Same with grocery stores and brands I like. At 72 change becomes harder, but I try to be flexible. Stay 🆒 in Texas.😍😍😍😍😍

I don't mind change as long as it will save me money. I'll try a new company and if it doesn't work out, well then I go back to the old one. Nothing ventured, nothing gained (you can't expect to achieve anything if you dont take risks). At this point in life, change is irritating, but money trumps irritation.

You have no debt, paid off house and can live a comfortable lifestyle by following the career path you've chosen, Making more money doesn't guarantee happiness, security etc., Enjoying what you do, not wanting to retire, that's a gift!!! I do not take the "bait and switch" tactics, lower price for a short period, then usually higher or with less service in the future. Staying with one company for a long period is a good negotiating tool, they want loyal customers.

A college degree doesn’t necessarily get you a job or a good paying job. My husband got his masters degree in education. He needed it for a a former state we lived in. We moved to a different state and all his degrees and certifications transferred. Turned out, degrees don’t matter, but it’s who you know. Sadly.

  • @gmh56

We have been with the same local insurance broker for 35 years. EPIC customer service and response time. Saving some money just isn't worth the risk where customer service and response time is concerned. Like many others have replied: "If it ain't broke, don't fix it!" About your college degree: Education is never wasted, imo. AND, not everybody is cut out for a professional career path. We need folks just like you, Dawn, doing the sort of jobs you are doing. You enjoy your work, you brighten the day of the customers you meet, and you make a difference. It isn't always about the higher income and benefits. If you are miserable in that sort of position then the higher income is negated.

A lot of times when people talk about a higher paying job, they don’t see all of the cost involved and whether the job is worth the extra cost. Things like extra gas spent to get to that job, possibly needing a second car, needing different clothes, office gifts, an occasional lunch out with coworkers for teambuilding, and there’s many more. Sometimes a higher paying job is enough to make up for the extra costs , but a lot of times it is not.

Same!:) All the moving parts as you described. This is why I have no desire to keep up with grocery flyers, sites, specials. On one channel I kept hearing how fantastic Kroger's was but you had to buy a certain number of items or use their scanner app whatever games I have no interest in playing. Not to mention gas, car maintenance and traffic hastle to get to multiple stores. So I can maybe save $10 here and there. Not for me, not worth it. My car insurance doesn't know it yet but they are on thin ice because I could have switched for less but no guarantee the other wouldn't promptly raise the rate in 6 months so I didn't feel like the hastle this time around. Next time, if they raise it again, I'll probably switch to whoever is less expensive... I thought about you and other frugal channels today. Was going through some old kitchen clutter and came across a plastic bakery lid I was using as a tray for little things. The sticker was March 2015. HEB yummy large croissants, 6 for $4.78. I remember they did make really good sandwiches or breakfast sandwiches. Now they are $6.22. Not too bad considering 9 years later. Would still be less expensive than drive-through or prepackaged.

Looking for cheaper services or products usually comes when our money supply is scraping bottom, and we need to get any savings we can, with loyalty going out the window. When you have enough to get by, and are fairly comfortable, scratching around to find cheaper services doesn't feel as important. There is nothing like being broke to make us do a change in our life.

I may sound old and possibly naive but change is inevitable so there is that. I do not willingly change, as you say I am not really open to change. Some of it is the older values we were raised with. Loyalty, you pay for what you get, quality is worth a bit extra and like you said everything goes up, so go slow with change. I am happy to change if I am working with people but get frustrated very easily with computer generated processes.

TXU Energy sent my a letter telling me know my contract for electricity was ending in July. My present rate is 9.7 cents per kw hour. The new rate will be 14.9 cents per kw hour. If I go over 800 kw hours they will credit me 15 dollars on my bill. I am a loyalty customer. I signed up for the new rates. I would go with another company. But, I think of the customer who had bills that were thousands and thousands of dollar when the grid went down during the winter several years ago in Texas. Choosing an alternative company did not help them. And, they were not able to get out of paying the bill. Slick Ted Cruz was the only one who benefitted from the outage. He flew his family to Mexico during the outage!

At 40 years old, I get it. It took us a long time to find our happy spot (aka comfort zone) and more things are at stake. HOWEVER, I learned that in certain areas of our lives, it's good to keep pushing the boundaries we created for ourselves back. Being able to adapt to sudden changes and being flexible builds our resilience. We can't stop these changes, but we can make ourselves less vulnerable and get back on our feet faster.

I can’t think of any service that I use that would make a big enough difference to change to a different provider. Internet, cell phone, lawn care and bug spraying are the only services besides insurance that I have. I would be surprised if I could save more than $200 total by changing them. I could stop lawn and bug services to save $1500 if needed. I am not afraid of working or saving money. I would rather try to make money than worry about not having enough.

We wanted a big family. Had one child. Kinda go overboard. Often. At the drop of a hat. Thankfully she's greatfull not spoiled. An example is we were at an event together last weekend. She was working as a reporter taking photos and making notes. When she was done the 3 of us got into a conversation with a photographer who was working for a different paper. Older guy. Mid 30s. He told her she was using the wrong lense. Needed a different one. Explained why. Husband immediately placed an order for it. Had it by Wednesday. She just hugged him and thanked him and told him not to worry she had all she needed. If it were a one off, not a big deal but one of us does something like this every month or two.

I'm exactly the same! I have made changes with insurances and things that are not a daily event type of thing like internet or cable service. I currently have Dish Network and we love it but we don't love the cost! But I know I would not be happy with just streaming because there's no way to rewind and record the programming. We really depend on that so the cost at this point is worth what we get.

All streaming services I have used, which is most of them, have ff, rewind, etc controls...and you don't need to record on regular streaming as what you want to watch is always there. Live streaming services have recording capabilities so you can record as watching or when you don't even have your tv on. Individual programs or you can set it to record whole seasons of a program.

Got my cable package bill on Friday, it went up an extra $110 a month. I'm going to call tomorrow and see what's going on. I might pull a Johnny Paycheck and tell them, take this bill and... it😆It's time for a change, I don't want to be spending more money on my cable package than I do on my property taxes FGS.😠

Dawn, I feel exactly the way you do! I've been with certain companies for years! If I like their service, and And price, and accomplish what I want done, I will stay with them. I'm old school, no cell phone. I have a land line and a flip phone for emergencies. And I really dislike change, mostly on every level. No fax, or photo Copier at my house. Have a great Sunday! 💙🌈💙

If I am happy with my service provider I don’t like to disrupt what works. However, with the constant price increases lately we must be saavy consumers. I tried to switch from Farmer’s to State Farm but the State Farm agent said I have a great rate and they could not compete.

You are right Dawn, I have had my new phone for a year. Last week I was texted a happy anniversary for one year of my new phone. Got another text yesterday reminding me my bill was due next month. Guess what it increased another $5 with assorted fees. $5 extra seems like not much till you do the math. $5 x 12+ months= $60+

I would rather not going through the haste of looking and changing companies but I do it in a blink of an eye if another company has better prices and service. Internet, I stay with the same company and every year when my promotion is over and the price goes ridiculous high, I called them and get another promotion for the price I tell them I can afford.

I know everyone switching around through free trials and whatnot but I don’t have a system to do it and it seems like work to me. I’m already working FT and trying to get back into studying and I just don’t have the bandwidth for it right now.

There is so much change lately or maybe I'm just noticing it more! I'm real careful about changing services but I ended up with a much better electric deal when I finally switched to a new electric plan... it's one that is all inclusive so it's easy to calculate our bill ... but also, we didn't have an increase like we were going to have with the old company & I got a 3 year contract!!!!

But I wouldn't suggest for anybody to switch if they don't need too.
