Story time: My gelding (my profile picture) I've had for 12 years. So, I was walking him down to the yard (home yard) and he was being very spooky. So I decided to put my helmet on. And I'm forever grateful I did just as I fastened the strap. A bird flew out her reared up and his hoof clocked me on the head. My helmet saved my life. I now always wear my helmet when catching him. ( and riding)

I hopped on my green appy mare. Her name is Matilda. She spooked at some trot poles that were standing up and started bucking like crazy. I basically did a front flip off of her. I landed on my tailbone (broke it) and then my head flung back and hit the ground. Luckily, I was wearing a helmet. The whole helmet was broken on the inside after. I ended up coming out with just a concussion and my broken tail bone but the doctors said if I hadn't been wearing a helmet I would've cracked my head open. I wont ever get on a horse without one.

@@GreyGhostBreyers yeah I know I’ve experienced it myself before I’ve been in a strecher after a fall before and I never gave up on my pony. It’s never the horses fault they don’t wanna be ridden personally I got a horse that loves it for that reason he has never reared me off he very rarely bucks but he is a bit spooky but I never hated him.

Oh no! Poor Esme! I'm very grateful that she shows us the real side of having horses, not the paradise some people make it out to be! I hope she is okay! 🥺🥺

What you said about helmets are so so true. A few months ago I was having a lesson with my friends. Now all three of our horses are usually very calm and unproblematic. However this time, the horse who was at front started bucking (Things like this happen, they're animals, they have feelings as well) and she flew right into the fence. Her helmet actually cracked, however it definitely saved her life. No matter how experienced you are, it's crucial to wear the proper gear.

I fell off yesterday too. I was ok but I fell off into a puddle and got soaked but I was ok 💦💧🌊

I had a trainer whose horse refused a jump in the warmups that had a puddle behind it... she got totally soaked. She said later that "at least the judge knew why I was completely drenched" 😂

That’s the reality of owning horses, but not many people réalisé it. (Love ur vids!!!!!) (Edit thanks for all the likes!!!!❤️)

My first concussion was on my very first time falling off. It was very minor and I didn’t notice it until the next day. I didn’t go to the hospital but I felt dizzy all the time and my head hurt like hell. I later described it to my coach and she told me I definitely had a concussion but it had healed by then.

I fell off about 2 months ago. I broke my foot not very badly but I still can’t do sport or horse riding. The hidden life 👌😂

I think it’s really cool when you tubers or professional riders share their fall stories as I think it helps younger viewers who ride know that it’s okay to fall and not everything is perfect, hope you get better soon btw esme! 🥺

i’m glad that you are ok! a week ago i got my first horse!! i was so excited!! and then the first day riding her after i bought her, she had a bad trip and rolled on top of my leg. just a big bruise and a scrape but no broken bones. luckily i’m ok and she is too. i got back on her today and she was super good!

Ah shame Esme ! Wishing you a speedy recovery ! I broke my arm and shoulder 3 months ago and I'm only just getting back into riding. Lots of love ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

I can definitely relate to the ebb and flow of riding confidence! For a while, I was nervous to ride my horse (not really mine, just a horse I’ve worked with for a few years now), until I decided to take it slow and get to know him better with groundwork. Now our bond is stronger than ever! And Joey is so sweet, I’m sure he rarely does things to just be naughty 💗 That’s a confidence boost in itself! And I love your message about riding safety!!! I had a minor fall once, but it was enough to detach my helmet rim. My parents immediately said to replace it since there’s no guarantee it could protect me in another fall!

Glad you are bringing awareness to the need to replace helmets after a fall. I was on a little trail ride about 5 minutes from home and had a fall, head first on a rock, and my helmet was in 2 pieces. Was told had I not been wearing one the fall could have easily been fatal.

So glad you are ok. It's really great you give sound health and safety advice. I have had a few spills myself - getting back on can be nerve-racking- but so worth it. It's the realities of riding. Thank you for the message! You really never know. My mare - in the 10 years I had her - had only 2 full blown spooks with me. And I came off and landed head first both times. Another time everything went from fine to me getting clothes-lined at a full canter on a tree due to a perfect storm on a generally non-spooky horse and I assure you things would have ended MUCH worse if I had not had my helmet on for that impact.

I rode in a riding school and didn't fall off for a solid 5 years. Then my first fall turned out to be my worst lol similar to esme, fell off at full speed and hit the fence

Awwww! Glad your ok! I’ve broken my leg, ankle, foot and arm and dislocated my shoulder riding, yet always get back on as soon as it’s safe. I’m glad u haven’t had to have any operations, I’ve had 4 in my time and I’m only 13 😂. Joey is so Sweet and jumped so nice 😀 and Casper looks STUNNING on that hack! And well... mickeys just looks like a mud monster, but the cutest mud monster EVER! ❤️ u and your horses. Stay safe x

Wow I had a massive confidence knock after my fall and was nervous to do much but now I'm over it and canter happily

So sorry about the fall, Esme! Praying that your bruised/broken rib heals well! So relieved that it wasn't any worse! Glad your alright inspite of being a bit stiff and sore! Everyone takes a spill once in awhile! I remember one day riding a friends horse which was a Morgan...she side stepped suddenly as she was being led and she was pushing against my friend! I was riding bareback then and half slid and half fell/jumped off! LOL! I did the right thing of getting right back on! I was a bit shaken, but more surprised by the suddenness! I was giggling though! I didn't/wasn't wearing a helmet! I don't own a riding helmet! Awhile later while riding another friends horse who was a Palomino....we were riding down in the Park here in Ontario, WI! He decided to lay down and have a roll and scratch on the ground....I was half rolled and have caught under him, but unharmed and was able to jump free of his legs! So much fun and a bit funny! I had the weirdest look on my face! LOL! Is Joey alright as well or pretty shaken up by your fall!

Hospital or back on! I have so many stories about that. So many. Once my friend got kicked in the chest right below the throat and had to call the hospital and while we were waiting my other friend (who was holding the injured girls horse) fainted! After both the ambulances left and we finished untacking we went and visited them. They both ended up being okay. That’s the only time someone went to the hospital while riding with me. But every time I fall off I spring back on. Even when I get trampled.

Oh my gosh Esme the same thing happened to me 2 years ago exactly 😂 I didn’t want to ever ride again but my pony walked back over to me and was so sweet and she looked at me like ‘I’m sorry mummy’ and then I got back on. Since then, I’ve been progressing so much and finally bought my first eventer! I wouldn’t be here without that fall. Oh yeah, also thanks to Charles Owen helmets I’m all right!

I’m sorry to hear that you fell off Joey, accidents happen of course, but I’m glad you’re okay now! 💛:) Thank you for making other people aware of the less glamorous side of the horse world. A few months ago I got a concussion after falling off a horse in the field, luckily I had a helmet but now I’ve realized just how dangerous horse back riding can actually be. Even with the most trustworthy horses; freak accidents can happen

Us horsey people are so badass, getting straight back on after a bad fall! I think it’s so important to have lessons every now and then because an instructor can see things that you can’t see and that you sometimes forget about when you’re on the ground 😊
