My WILDLIFE Photography Approach - TIPS and Techniques
On the photography vlog today I share my wildlife photography tips and techniques. I talk about my overall approach to wildlife photography.
I love being a wildlife photographer. It's such an amazing form of the trade. And, I love that my job as a professional travel photographer allows me so many opportunities to do wildlife photography. But, that being said, it's not exactly my area of expertise. I focus more on travel specifically and landscapes as a subset. That said, I take every opportunity I have to take wildlife photos. I might not be the best wildlife photographer in the world - I'm not Paul Nicklen or Morten Hilmer - but I do think I do alright.
So, on today's photography vlog I thought I'd share my approach to taking pictures of wildlife. I wanted to talk you though some of my wildlife photography tips and techniques. I think I have a lot to offer when it comes to tips. I think some of the techniques I share are simple enough that anyone can apply them.
Thus, these are my tips for wildlife photography. And, sadly, one of the last of my Namibia videos.

I love your thoughts as well as your images. They are so clear and so true. It just made me realise why I should blend landscape with wildlife. I, as a landscape photographer, was also having the feel of doing wildlife but could not find a reason. This video of yours has given me my reason behind it. Thank you.
Hard to believe it's almost over and I've only been busy.. waiting for these videos. I must be having fun.
Great video Brendan (as always) and some useful tips - thank you for sharing! 😊
That’s one of your best videos. Lots for us to think about
those are some great tips and tricks! thanks for sharing all this beautiful content with us! really enjoyed watching this
Great narrative and great video! I loved your photos and appreciate the explanation of your approach to wildlife photography. Thank you!
Nice video Brendan! With wildlife photography its often all about planning, patience and persistence, however sometimes its all about working with the situation that appears in front of us. Understanding you're camera, knowing how to quickly change settings and work a composition are key to making the most of great encounters in order to get the shots. Great content as always, Cheers, Tom
Brendan, the B-Roll from 1:12 to 2:50 has to be an award winning short film all on its own. Magnificent footage and editing coupled with a marvellous commentary. Wow !
Solid tips Brendan!
I think you learned something new on your approach to this type of photography and it simply makes you a better photographer. Great talk and thanks for sharing.
Mannn that b roll is sooo sharp!!! That 600mm ay! Also love the music over the b roll perfect safari tune 👌
Thank you. Really useful tips (as always)
Thank you Brendan
Nice Content Man!! keep hustling!!
Loving the concept of partial animals. Looks great
I love that zebra one, dude! Thanks for sharing
I have to admit, I was skeptic about this video knowing that wildlife photography is not your expertise area, but then the disclaimers made it interesting again and I ended up learning lots of great tips! Great video!
This is really great! Thanks
Great video series! I have wanted to know more about Namibia ever since I saw a photograph by Thomas Heaton (Tree in front of red dunes). Look forward to the rest of the videos. I did notice that starting with this series it doesn’t indicate (with red line) that the video was watched (on any of my devices). I usually watch a couple times anyways-but was just curious.
Excellent content!!!!! 👍👍
Wow. Brendan, hope you organize workshops in Kenya!!
"Winging it" now that, I ca do ....... good talk Brendan, always interesting to hear a photographers thought process. When I first saw your image of the female lion where it was cropped half way through the body of the lion with all the dead space on the left side I was scratching my head, asking why would he do that ........ Advertising ...... now it all makes CENTS hahaha
Jodie “shit!!!! I got it in full Frame”😂😂😂
Great tips man. Though you'll change your view about safari limitations when you visit Kenya. Enjoy!
If I'm not wrong or my memory is not choking, that World famous wildlife photographer is Morten Hilmer.
Dude awesome! That Black Rhino thumbnail is 🔥

I see what you mean about the amount of Animal in the frame and the rest of the image. Not thought of that before. Cool.
Beautiful
The photos are beautiful 😍 and love the explanation for not capturing the whole animal and cropping 😃

Haha. Blah. More interested in the Premiere function as my first one goes live in less than an hour, seems like it isn't registering the view correctly though...? Views to like ratio is way off right now.
