In Alright when your wife comments on the reused lyrics of "40 acres, a mule, a piano a guitar", that entire verse opening is almost word for word from the second verse of Wesley's theory... Only major lyric changed is in Wesley's theory it's "my name is uncle Sam, im your dawg, motherfucker you can live at the mall" where in Alright it's "my name is Lucy I'm your dog, motherfucker you cab live at the mall". This part of the album is when Kendrick starts getting more aware of the pressures of neoliberal America and the music industry, so this reveal is him relating neoliberal America to being unholy, and speaking for Lucifer etc.

Great reaction here. Kendrick’s self-reflection is always masterful. And it’s always more interesting than the more mainstream content. All over this album are moments where Kendrick takes a lot of time to explain why he is the way he is, only to turn the story back around on himself. Momma: “I’m famous. I have everything. I know everything. I’m untouchable. Oh wait, when I came home, I realized nothing I just bragged about has any importance.” How much a dollar cost: “I got where I am alone, I don’t owe you anything. You can’t guilt me into helping you. Oh wait, this is the high power speaking to me, and I deserve to lose my spot in heaven because of how I just acted.” Blacker the Berry: “The entire system is pulling us down. It’s all their fault. We wouldn’t do this to eachother like they are. Oh wait, I was literally in the exact same position.”

32:37 - y'all missed the focus of "Momma" but it's because he didn't vocally say it in the song. It was mostly about him going to Africa for the first time, specifically Cape Town, South Africa. It's called Momma because of it's nickname for the Motherland of all civilization, especially black people. Some of the rest of the album songs stay in that subject like Complexion, The Blacker the Berry & Mortal Man.

My first interaction with Kendrick's music was during a road trip with my family. My mom and siblings were in the car with my dad driving a moving truck, and I switched to riding in the truck with my old man halfway through. The first song I heard was these walls, which unfortunately turned me away from Kendrick because hearing that intro as a middle schooler is a lot to digest! Almost 5-6 years later I'd listen to this album in whole for the first time and it all came back to me. So lucky to learn about Kendrick through my dad first. Thank you both for uploading this reaction, seeing Molly hearing this masterpiece for the first time and fully appreciate the production is cathartic. I'd recommend giving the SNL version of "i" a listen if you haven't! I prefer it over the album version, but both are wonderful

Just really enjoy your commentary, and the breaking down of how these songs affect you with context to your own musical taste. If not a reaction please listen to the album Bismillah by Peter cat Recording Co. I think it’s something special 🙇🏻‍♂️

You guys should do Absolutely by Dijon and then, if you can, react to the short film for the album
