    This stance is quite often used with bigger cine rigs in combat/fight scenes, especially in those hollywood studio shoot where the camera is on a floating rig from the ceilfing, or outdoors with easyrig. It is called (at least here in Finland) as "Moottorisaha ote" which is translated to "Chain Saw config/stance/mode".

    I'd rock that setup with a top handle and a shoulder mount and a strap on the camera grip for a few different contact points. This is an awesome build!

    I’ve been using a less extreme version of this (left side extended grip) for a few years now and it’s way more comfortable and stable for handheld IMO. Someone also already recommended but Tilta has an awesome rosette arm with a quick tilt grip (matched with the nucleus nano FF). It’s awesome.

    @@RobinGuitonWhat are you talking about, this rig will help you to manual adjust the focus and avoid pulling the camera weight on one hand, with the rig, the weight will be distributed on your arm when you're focusing manualy

    Oh! I was planning on doing something similar with my personal S5iix when that arrives with a Tilta Full Cage and Niceyrig Wooden handle! I found I really liked this slim hand held design while rigging our C70 at work.

    it is a principle I'm also digging into. the better handle for all that is the Tilta Left Side Advanced Focus Handle, which although comes with rosette mount, I find the nato one with quick release to be better. That gives rotation at the push of a button. I wish the handle was more ergonomic though - maybe in a later iteration. That Smallrig extendable arm is a part I was curious about as well, but I would have loved to have a way to adjust the extension without moving my hand or at least not requiring to rotate the knob that much - something smart like Shape has those push buttons would be nice, but I haven't seen anything yet. Ofc, this arm extension requires better cabling between the handle and the follow focus and unfortunately I haven't found a nice coiled solution for usb-c to micro-usb, but I keep hoping. And it's important to have a nice cable for that, as that can potentially open this rig (with or without such arm) to having it switched from handheld to shoulder mounted, using a rig similar to what you previously suggested 3 years ago - the shoulder rig with long rods going downwards, as to have the hands resting in a natural position around the body and not having to keep them up kzread.info/dash/bejne/Z5mJx6ZwlpTegKw.html - anywho, if any of this triggers some ideas about how to fill the gaps, do write back :D

    Wow this might be perfect for the rig I use. I've been using a shoulder pad mounted vertically on the back of my rails to have something like a rifle butt for stability. However, using that leather handle with this adjustable arm as that rifle butt (like the Marauder back in the day) might fix the biggest problem I have which is packing it down and laying it on a table. Thanks for sharing!

    This works only with auto focus setups. The problem with this is you need a focus puller. lol. This being a shoot and run camera setup... Having to take your hands every time off the lens is not convenient at all. Yeah, looks cool, but in real world scenario is not useful. I know that cuz i used it, or at least tried.

  • @RavikantRai21490
    @RavikantRai214906 ай бұрын

    That still does not solve the focusing problem. No matter what you do with that arm, you still need to let go of one grip point and touch the focus ring anyway. So this solution is bad if you want to manual focus. The only way to make this work is to buy a tilta side focus handle and use that instead of that wooden handle.

    Looks nice and retro stylish, Caleb! Still (the first reason) when you need to manually focus you can’t keep the left hand on the handle? So still wobbly when focusing, right?🤔 Otherwise eye candy content and setup! 🍭👀👅
