I don't know if you live in or near the Chicago area, but the Bastian Voice Institute is the best in the business. I went there in March cos I fried my voice in December. They've been treating high-grade singers from around the world for 20 years. Not only voice treatment, but a variety of disorders & diseases of the throat, air & food tubes, & sinuses. If you live far from them, they can probably recommend someone near you. Possibly someone who studied there. Good luck!

Thanks for sharing your experience I've always had problems with my voice, (VERY covered-tone voice.) I've gone to speech therapy sessions, off and on, from grade school and Jr. High, mostly. I picked the sessions back up my first year in college, (I wanted to do more acting.) The difference when taking sessions in college, they FINALLY analyzed my voice. Long story short, it turned out I had a detached septum and enlarged adenoids. It was suggested that I have them removed. I HATE my voice-- though I'm often told, in spite it being difficult to understand what I'm enunciating at times, I have a pleasant sounding voice, (On NUMEROUS occasions, I'm asked if I'm a vocalist. YIKES!!). I've always wanted to learn how to sing. I was afraid to go through the recommended surgeries, but thanks to your video (and testimony) I think I've finally made up my mind to go through the needed procedures. Thanks, and best of luck to you and your career. You have a lovely voice..

Great song, great singing
Yeah my tonsils are getting bad I can't sing anymore i am a mouth breather now and I am snoring now. Gotta go
Your voice was awesome before don't get me wrong but after is in my opinion even better!
Your voice opened up & sounds richer & fuller now. I expected a change, but that was a big difference. Then when you explained your tongue & tonsils, I couldn't believe you could talk, much less sing! And I didn't even know tonsils got stones in them! It's like your own head & neck were trying to strangle you. I'm glad you got through it, you have a lovely voice, & you're a sweetie! When Patsy Cline was 10, she had a serious throat infection that almost killed her. She was sick for a year, even spending a few months in an iron lung. "But when I recovered, I had this big, booming voice like Kate Smith." I learned that in October 2016, as part of my massive research into Patsy Cline, after people started telling me I sound like her. At first, I didn't believe them (would you?), but one night, I sang Crazy, listened really closely, & spent three minutes scaring the crap out of myself. When I found out about her illness, I read about throat infections to see how that would change the voice. One of the infections was Tonsillitis. I saw a diagram of a throat with & w/o tonsils. The tonsils took up about 25% of the cross-sectional area of the throat. That meant that removing them increased the airflow 33%. I found that very interesting, cos in May 1973, when I was 7, I had tonsillitis, & in June, a few days after school ended, had them removed. Then I thought of Patsy. Obviously, if she had a throat infection that serious, the first thing they'd do is yank out the things that are storing the infection, where it's able to grow & get worse. One night, I did something no one could believe. The wireless mic cut out during Leavin' On Your Mind, right at the last, highest, & most heartbroken line in the chorus. So I howled past it: "I may learn to looooove aga-AIIIIIIIIIIN [smack mic] [into mic] If there's a new love in your heart..." The bar patrons were in shock. The ones who weren't looking at me said they couldn't tell the difference. Yep, turns out, I'm as loud as a pair of Yamaha 400-watt speakers turned up to 6.
I am in no way a professional (or a particularly good) singer, but I noticed that after my tonsillectomy the notes aren't as likely to just fade out it the middle. The sudden ability to sing was not one of the things I expected to gain after having my tonsils removed...
After reading all the comments, it seems like a mixed bag, some singers sound better, some singers sound worse. What a complex world we live in.
You sing beautiful ☺️👏
Hey there! My name is Tyler (or Kaos), I sing & scream for multiple bands and I’m anxious as all get out about my tonsils because I’ve been getting tonsillitis repeatedly this year. Demi Livato lost her ability to sing, probably due to intubation. It's put between the vocal folds, which can obviously make them swollen and damage them. But if LMA is used instead of ETT, vocal folds won't be affected since LMA doesn't touch vocal chords. It also may take some time for some singers to get back their original voice even if the surgery went as expected, but that's purely because they are just not used to the extra space inside their mouth, meaning they have to lelearn lots of stuff. But that doesn't affect the vocal chords directly. I'm getting the surgery this Friday and will meet my anesthesiologist tomorrow, I'll ask him to either use LMA or put in put in ETT VERY carefully.

I always struggle to sing especially higher notes and I struggle with sounding loud without straining. I’ve been trying to learn to sing for years. I’m wondering if getting my tonsils removed would help but I’m not one to just randomly have surgery and I don’t necessarily need it. My tonsils are kind of large though and I wonder if this is partially why I find singing so difficult to do.
I came here to see if I was the only one that had my voice affected by getting my tonsils removed I was about 6 when it happened and ever since then my voice has been high af and its annoying because I'm 16
My tonsils are HUGE and get infected often. I feel literally *choked* when singing, and I cannot scream. My breath support is impaired and I have to wear a cpap machine because of my enlarged tonsils and the size of my tongue. (It's too big/thick.)
Thanks for posting this. I’m 48 and make a living with my voice, and was a tad bit concerned, about what to expect. I’m one week out from surgery. How long till you started feeling back to normal? Thank you again. -- and what a wonderful voice!

For anyone finding this comment later and wondering, it took about a week and a half for me to feel capable of some light singing without dying, but I really recommend not overdoing it and to wait another week so as to not strain the healing wound or agitate the remaining bruises. Also my tonsils were not that big, and so my recovery may be further along than someone experiencing more complications prior to the surgery. Take care of yourself first :)

I do wonder tho, tonsils and adenoids are part of ur immune system defense and removing them just leaves u a lil less defense capable.
