Please ignore the trolls Candy Mama! There are a lot of sad, pathetic folks out there that the only way they can feel good about themselves is to make others feel bad. My wife and I have watched and enjoyed your videos for quite a while now. We believe you impart a lot of good, informational content. Please don't be discouraged by the haters, for every one of those there are hundreds of people who are cheering you on. Thanks for all of your efforts for the benefit of the hiking community. Keep up the good work!

Whenever someone tells you something, consider the source. There have always been the people that are very small inside and are jealous of most other people. As a big guy, I learned to ignore the annoying jealous people. They're actually kind a pitiful. Do what you like and ignore them. Editing is the most important and creative aspect of videoing. You don't have a noticeable accent. Don't worry about your mistakes, as long as you wake up alive the next morning you didn't mess up too bad. I still don't do emojis. Good Luck, Rick

@@griswald7156 I'm an old Connecticut Yankee. We supposedly have the least regional accent in the US. The comment about Tara using Y'all was criticizing a southern accent. She really doesn't have much of an accent for the US. I get a chuckle from Dixie because sometimes she has a strong accent and sometimes only a mild accent. Someone once said that the US and England are two countries with a common heritage but divided by a common language. When I was in the US Army, 50 years ago, we used to figure out where a guy was from by his accent. After a while we all got pretty good at it. My wife was from bayou country Louisiana but had only a slight English accent because her neighbor was a war bride from England. If you were able to take a long vacation and travel around North America, you'd figure out regional accents fairly quickly. Good Luck, Rick

@@griswald7156 My Dad was in England a few times during WWII. Most of the tommies resented the yanks(They're over paid, oversexed, and over here). My father was a carpenter and Chief Carpenter's Mate with a passion for fine woods. He would hunt up beautiful woods in whatever port they stopped. In England he found a hardware store that sold him fine wood and some beautiful cabinet makers tools. He was using American Cigarettes for currency and the shop owner loved that because they were in great demand. The shop owner and Dad got into some long conversations about life and the food shortages. The next time my Dad visited, he brought the shop owner one of those big cans of powdered eggs(which my Dad was sick of). The shop owner said that it was going to really help his family and gave my Dad his finest pocket knife in appreciation. Dad carried that knife every day until he died. When we kids complained about food(which was rare because Mom was a great cook) Dad would tell us about England starving and his knife. He did 3 round trips across the Atlantic and built a new sea chest each trip. They were works of art, full of souvenirs from N. Africa, Italy, and England. His souvenirs were currency, uniform pieces, pictures, some books, and a lot of miscellaneous items, nothing military. I was very disappointed when I found out there were no guns. "Yous guys" is also an expression from the Bronx in NYC. Watch the movie: "A Bronx Tale". Good Luck, Rick

Your videos opened my eyes in a huge way, and I’m moving forward now with my life “armed” with the understanding that my grandfather was apparently the only grandfather that didn’t take his gun with him when he went into the woods. Similarly, he was the sole grandfather in the history of grandfathers to not hammer into my head a rule about always carrying a gun when in the woods. PS- Sorry for my abhorrent humor, Tara. I genuinely enjoy your uploads.

I have no idea who you are but i really really appreciate that particular vid!! As a father of two adult daughters, i can honestly say that I can appreciate your psa on those sketchy shelter sites. Ive had to pack up and change campsites twice in the backcountry in Maine and Vermont due to armed wackos!! That shits real. Its not an overreaction. It happened. You speak the truth about these shelter sites. ALSO!! The trolls that are getting angry and saying mean things may actually use shelter sites as hunting grounds and that made them mad that you shined a light on their intentions. You just never know. I try to stay in stealth sites when i can and water up at the shelter sites. You’re the best and I’ll sub tonight. NQU

Tara, I’ve been following you for 2 ish years. I really enjoyed your work and the honest emotions you put into your videos. I saw the video about sleeping in shelters when it first came out and thought it was sound advice. I guess I’m antisocial because I’m not big on sleeping in close proximity of people I don’t know, especially when they are snoring! FYI some time in January I saw a video short on your don’t sleep in shelters video. Not sure if that precipitated the big bump in viewership or if the views on the original video caused the short to appear. As an occasional backpacker I believe in hiking your own hike. I may not care for nose rings, but I believe that you need to be you. You will NEVER please everyone and there will always be hater’s. Move on and leave them wallow in their misery. Feel sorry for them and pray that they find peace one day in the saving knowledge of Christ. I for one will continue to watch your videos all the way to the end, I hope one day to see you on trail so I can give you a big hug and thank you in person.👍

Please ignore the trolls! Your comments on the shelter environment and culture are spot on. I will confess to several times when I was the only person in the shelter, and some other cool interactions with other hikers. I will also state that mice are an issue in shelters because hikers are not meticulous concerning their food scraps: If there wasn't food there wouldn't be mice (and likely thus snakes!)

Glad your video went viral. Thank you for putting out videos on the AT. I section hike the AT and my daughter is going with me this summer to attempt the 1st 206 miles. We have 2 weeks so it should be interesting. Your video made me laugh because she says if she goes hiking with me I need to allow her to get a nose peircing. That puts me in a conundrum due to my joy of hiking the AT and the fact I made her sisters wait until they were 12 to get their ears peirced. Oh boy, parenting in 2023! Keep up the good work!

I grew up in western North Carolina about 1/2 mile from a very popular AT entry point. Hikers would frequent my grandparents gas station, I will never forget this group of hikers about 1996 apparently they were going south starting from Maine. They were telling my grandfather about being run up a tree by a black bear about a week before. I guess at some point the bear lost interest and tromped off. My grandfather expressed his disbelief… again… that they elected not to carry a firearm with them. From a very young age my grandfather taught me and my cousins that you never go into the mountains without your rifle. Because in the mountains you’re on the menu. I’ve never hiked the AT but have lived most of my 50 years in the mountains hunting, fishing and camping and I know this much. In the wild, a firearm is directly linked to your safety and survival. And sometimes bears and cougars are not the only predators in the hills…

I blocked him and removed the comment. I decided if I kept getting comments like that I would take it down. To my surprise on my entire thru hike I never had another mean comment until I did a live after. Then another person made a comment on my looks again. Unfortunately, when you put yourself out there, miserable people will always be there to try and make you feel the way they do. You do you girl and try to fluff those people out of your mind. Block the buttholes and keep on enjoying what you're doing. 👍

Hi. Maybe I'm one of the few, but I somehow don't seem to have emojis for youtube commenting... so maybe suggest an emoji or three exclamation points or something. I've hiked the pct and the ta and other hikes in europe but don't have any social media. I appreciate the time and attention youtubers put into it. Thank you! I have been a photographer in vocational past lives and do love it and can get lost in it, so I can understand that creative interest. As for trolls, I find it such a weird outcome and antithesis to the potential of the internet. Indifference is a way to deal with not giving lazy mental indulgence/ choices any encouragement. It can't be healthy for them. Subscribed ;)

If you want to do so then go for it 🤙👍 as I’m sure there are some viewers who like that little touch. See my last comment. You have taken on some slightly more controversial topics I have noticed such as the cult series and the shelter focus. Anytime you throw your opinion out there you’ll always get several in reply. That’s the beauty of a nation that believes in freedom of speech and has codified it in their Constitution so go for it. Keep up the good work. I’ve been following you a while now and have commented with my own opinion, at times but diplomatically I believe. 😃. Everyone is going to have their own opinion on topics, we know that. I think content makers have to expect they will get some nasty comments, It kinda comes with the territory and structure of social media. However, I don’t get how comments on your appearance have any relevance at all. Scroll on by, IMO. Now can you please do a video on why some people say “Appalachian” differently? Is it a north, south thing?😂. Happy trails.🤘🏻🥾⛰️

Unfortunately, Antisocial Personality Disorder afflicts about 2% of the population, depending on your source. So with 1M views, about 20 000 creeps watched your video. The rest of us are generally honest and decent people. That 2%, however, generates a lot of work and headache. They are why we have to lock our homes at night, memorize elaborate passwords, and, now, contend with trolling behavior on the internet. Your videos are something to be proud of so I am glad you will keep producing. BTW, I was also surprised the Seven Tribes video did not go viral whereas the shelter one did. Really, it was pretty innocuous.

Great that you were able to purchase a Computer, Camera, and a nice Mike with KZread money from your viral video. However, you should have purchased a Mike that you could do nasty things with instead of a nice one. 🤣🤣🤣. 👍

I commented recently that I just noticed your nose piercings... My opinion is positive and I hope it didn't seem otherwise. If it did I'm really sorry.

Any creator of art who publishes their work in the public arena will be subjected to criticism. Unfortunately, we are living in a society whose social fabric is unspooling. We are witnessing a lack of decorum and intolerance for differences. There is a malignant undertow spirit of meanness that pervades society. This grows out of fear and ignorance and blind hatred of all things decent and beautiful. The pornography of violence is evident everywhere; it seeks to tear everything asunder. The US is at war with the world and with itself. An atmosphere of hypermasculinity pervades. We are a nation divided. Permit me to say that you are a beautiful young woman, Tara. That beauty is more than skin deep or cosmetic; it stems from the core of your being and projects outward. Remain true to yourself. Perfection can never be achieved, but keep striving in that direction. I've enjoyed witnessing your evolution as a human being online, as well as your growth as an artist. Continue to be who you are without apology. Wishing you the best in growing your channel. Peace and love. 🥱

Ugh "mean people stink"... clearly people don't know or don't care about the Golden Rule- "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you" or if you don't have something nice to say, don't say anything at all. There is no need to be mean, or leave demeaning or threatening comments it says more about those commenters than it says about the KZread creator. I don't understand why if someone doesn't like the video, the channel or a pretty girl wearing a nose ring they don't just find another channel to watch.

I don’t think your video randomly went viral. People saw it and liked it, commented on it and the algorithm recognized that. It went viral for valid reasons. People like shelters so an Appalachian trail shelter video should have done well.
