454 big block with EFI and a custom exhaust (not loud, one that has a good note to it), would be perfect. I'm pretty certain you can order a EFI 454 with accessories like AC and things off of Chevy's performance website and make it super nice, but also keep it relatively simple.
The only thing I can say about waiting til next year is that it's an opportunity for you and your Dad to work on it together while you still can. Even if it's just little things until you hit it hard later this year into next!

Not gonna lie. This one hit me right in the heart. I’m into cars because of my dad. Memories of wrenching on our cars in the driveway are some of the most vivid memories from my childhood. I bought my Mustang as something to make more memories as an adult. Sadly he got sick and while we did get to go on some drives he passed before I could finish it. He modded and hot rodded cars when he was my age, long before my time but the passion and love for making a car yours, Making it special, was one thing we shared. Seeing you with your dad brought back so many memories, emotions, and it’s so cool you’re sharing them together. It is something special. Enjoy it, it’s a badass ride and I can’t wait to see what you do with her. Thanks for all that you do.
502 big block with the Holley EFI. Take the time to get all the good parts, and build an engine break in stand. That way any leaks happen outside that nice Camaro.
Seen a lot of comments on putting a 454 BB with a simple Holley EFI. Fun, good looking, and easy to work on and maintain

I saw your dad's video regarding this car a year ago or so and he said he'd sell it before giving it to you if you plan on doing something stupid with it. I agree with him. Just for once do something not over the top and enjoy it for what it is and was meant to be. I, as many others as well, would love to have a nice classic in the stable. She should get like a 500hp (at least) 396 crate motor and a Muncie 4spd. Maybe a new tremec 5 or 6spd for functionality if you were inclined. Also something you could do some drag events in a bracket if drag week things interests you. That would be badass.
454ci big block with Fi-tech intake, flow master exhaust, and a manual trans with a short throw shifter
When I started college in ‘73, I bought an immaculate ‘68 Camaro SS from a family friend for $1000. It was white with a black vinyl roof and red interior. Man, I loved that car and still think about it today.

So freakin stoked to see this car get built! I remember seeing it a while ago in the vids. Dedicated track car or full restoration will be great to see. I really like SM (Steve Morris) big blocks or a crate GM 572 would be nuts :)
It was really cool of you to put pictures of yourself and your siblings when y'all were young.. You're not too much younger than me, so I remember those days! I think it would be cool if you put more edits of yourself and your family from the past at the end of your videos. brought a tear to my eye , seeing your brother Mark looking so young and vibrant..

302 Z/28 >> 396
The best way to do it is a factory restoration with the 396, you'll be able to appreciate it a lot more when finished. It would also be a really cool feeling when driving it as if it was brand new when you bought it.
I think I can speak for everyone here, keep it stick and work on it with your son. I know you want to do something extravagant like the rest of your cars, but this is a piece of history. I'm sure your Lincoln would love working on this with you and I'm sure you wouldn't regret putting a big block in it and maybe like a minor restomod, like new seats, maybe suspension, and wheels.
That car is beautiful and has some great memories and lesson attached to it. I think you should keep it classic! Thanks for sharing with us all!
Maybe you could do a 454 or another chevy big block with EFI. Might be a good balance between old school muscle and new school tech.
My first car was a 1971 Ford Torino Gt when I graduated in 2015 from my dad and still until this day own it because it's all original and has original engine and transmission and interior in it and will never get rid of it until the day I die
I love how you shared the story at the end! Vary good video matt
I'd really love to have this car come out "stock", like it just came out of the factory. I feel like everybody's doing some crazy mods to these cars and we've seen you do some crazy stuff as well, going stock/restoration way would be a nice change as well.

Make that car feel like it used to. 396 4 speed for sure. You have all sorts of wild one-offs. I recommend doing only period correct mods, like intake, carb, headers, the kind of things you would have done if you had it as a teenager.
man matt you just have the best life you drove a classic muscle car as your first car and even better you have a dad. Im truly jealous
67 Mustang fastback would fit in nicely with the collection! And the Camaro defiantly needs a Texas Speed big block. Can’t wait to see this one get fixed up. Awesome car!
You can definitely get more power out of an LS but I would keep it OG. 396 big block with a turbsky 400 tranny with a Hurst shifter, Edelbrock highrise intake and Holley 750 double pumper with dish pistons and msd ignition. Old school but very classic. You gotta go with some crager s/s rims also for nostalgia

Definitely would do a big block, heads, cam. For that classic sound.
We need more of the photo album stuff like the end of this video. I loved it,, made it way more relatable and able to share the memories
You should put a 572 Big Block in it. It's the perfect fit for your collection. Supercharged is an option but not required.
I think a restomod would be cool. Personally I think a built 396 and a 5 speed with the hurst shifter would be sick! Cant wait to see what you do.

Sweet😎👍🇺🇸 That Camaro definitely needs a big block again. And paint it back to GREEN.!!!
This video took me back to my first car. 1968 Ford Galaxy 500. I loved that car. Back end was jacked up, big ol Mickey Thompsons on the back. Drove it for 2 years then parked it up on blocks in my parents yard when I went into the navy. Got out of the Navy, drove it for about 6 months then sold it. God I wish I could find that car now !!
One thing is for certain, this will be the only car you own that will never get sold. Make it special, because its definitely getting handed down to Linc!
Watching this is making me want to find a RSSS 68’. My brother had one Back when I was younger and that was the coolest thing.
I agree with the guy that said working on it with Linc!! But yes go with the classic route. I did see hurst badges on it maybe a modernized 396 Hurst? 🤔🤷🏻♂️

OK. Out of ALL your cars, past and present, this is the best one by far! I love it. Of course, I'm a Camaro guy. Lol. I currently have a 72' SS big block. I think you should keep it original as possible. Original color, big block with manual trans, and keep the original wheels with the correct center caps and trim rings. Otiginal style interior as well. Beautiful car with great personal history. Awesome!
Biggest LS you can get, Tremec 6 Speed, 3.73 or 4.11 gears. Do the suspension up right to make it corner as well as it goes straight.
Big Block ! Nice drivable cam, Edelbrock pro flo fuel injection with a four or five speed, four wheel disc brakes. Sway bars, Tires and wheels. Then just have fun with it.
You should definitely go with a big block. An all aluminum big block would be the sweet setup. If you want to go a little extra maybe a Steve Morris Engines big block 😉
This would be a perfect project for you and Lincoln to work on.
Absolutely keep it as close to OG as possible. Big block with a big cam that'll shake your chest when it idles
This is Great Matt….Could not think of a Better Muscle Car…Stupid happy for you!
Simple classic resto with a big block and a stick would be my vote on what to do with that Camero. Even if you just did a modern big block, catch the best of both worlds!

One thing I hope you do is be the main person working on the car. Don't take it to a shop for them. I enjoy watching you work on it just like what you did with the old zr1, loved that series. That's all I ask, please!
Dude, I had a ‘68 RS w/a 327 CI & a Power-glide Transmission. I bought it off a used car lot in 1972. I had to think hard to remember when I bought it. Had it only a couple of years & traded it in for a new car in 1975. I wish I had kept it, but it is far too late now.
The roadster shop makes a full frame for the first gen camaro that would handle anything you decide to do with it. Can't wait to see the progress.
I wish I had a dad like yours, your a lucky man! Glad I have a son to be the father I never had too. You already know you have the best dad lol
I agree that it would be great to build this with your son. Either way, sure hope you make it awesome and keep it for him one day. Cool vid!
To turn off the seat belt ding: turn on the key and wait until the seat belt light turns off, then clip the seat belt in out, in out and in out, then the seat belt light should blink and its off
Matt, Matt, you need to find a hellcat swap everything into the Camaro make it a classic with modern running gear into it.. It can’t sit any longer it needs to be done ASAP!!

I would hope you put the big big block in it like the 572. Of course, a bored out 396 to a 427 would be cool, too. Keep it for Link.
i like the way it looks with oem style rims no caps & black. i will be doing that to my black 86 ss in next 2 months with redline tires.
Awesome guys father son projects are the best 🥰🥰🥰🥰
Definitely do a basic resto-mod. Upgrade the suspension, mild engine build, and keep the body factory! Be a great weekend cruiser
You have to put a proper Chevy big block back in it. There’s nothing like the sound and torque of a 396 or 454. I’d put it back close to stock and enjoy it. So cool that your Dad hung on to it for you all these years. Dr. Lee is one special guy. Loved the pic of you, Mark and Drew.

Why do a big block when Chevy sold a 400ci small block. Why even do that when the best motor that ever came in these (outside of like a ZL1) was a 302 cubic inch race motor
@imkwuzn
Жыл бұрын
@@leecline5759 Simple, because it’s an original SS 396 Camaro. The small block 400 can’t touch a big block. My ‘70 SS 396 Chevelle walked every Pontiac 400 with ease. Sure, he could install a 572 or 427 but keeping it as close to original as possible would be best imho and I’m clearly not alone if you read the majority of the comments.
My father and I actually got a 68 ss as well to build together. Unfortunately he passed away before we could really get started. I started on it recently but I think I'm gonna put it on hold until my son is a little older so we can work on it together.
